Meeting S
I stepped back,” Uh, hi?”
He grinned,” Hey, I’m your neighbor. Right across the hall actually. I’m Jason. It’s very nice to meet you Braylin.”
“How do you know my name?”, I demanded.
He shrugged,” That’s for me to know and you to find out. I just wanted to let you know that I’m watching you. I don’t think you’re an extra natural. I think your some pesky human who broke the system.”
I bit my lip. He was right. I was just some human, but something about him made me want to fight him. I decided to use a slur that I knew good and well would upset him,” Maybe I’m just not like the rest of you, mythical creatures.”
As soon as mythical creature left my lips his face turned hot red. He shoved me hard. I grabbed the side of the counter to support my self. My left arm and leg began shaking like it always does when I get nervous. He opened his wings, one white batwing, and one dark gray angel wing. He hovered over me,” Say that again and you will regret ever stepping foot on this property."
He turned and walked out.
I took a breath when I heard my door shut. I shouldn’t have tried anything with him. I was brand new. I had no idea what he could even do to me. I walked back into my room and looked at the black clock hanging on the wall. It was getting close to dinner. I decided to make myself more presentable by getting a quick shower and letting the steam from the shower hopefully pull out some of the wrinkles. When I got out of the shower I dried with the single towel that was provided, and put my clothes back on. I looked in the mirror and fixed my hair as best as possible. I hoped that I looked and smelled cleaner to them. It was going to be hard to make a good first impression with very limited supplies.
I walked out of my room nervously. I could hear talking downstairs. I took a deep breath. I hoped Juniper was down there. She was like a breath of fresh air when I met her. I made my way down the stairs and saw a handful of extra naturals laughing and cutting up. I wanted to flee to my room, but I also wanted to eat dinner. I walked down the stairs trying to look as if I wasn’t terrified. That’s when I realized that I had no idea where the dining room was. I stood in the living room like an idiot as I tried to figure out what to do. Then a transparent figure of a boy about my age walked up to me. I could only assume that he was a ghost,” You must be the new kid. You look lost.”
“Uh, yeah. I was looking for the dining room.”
“Oh, Master Mikio will ring a bell when it’s time to eat, but he is always on time. He should be.”
Then we heard a loud bell ring from across the room. The ghost boy smiled,” It’s time to eat!”
I followed him into the dining hall and took a seat as all the other seats began to feel up with different extra naturals. Then the Noppera-bō walked in pushing a huge cart of bowls of what I assumed was steaming chili. He placed a bowl in front of each extra natural. I noticed he took a little extra time at some. I wondered what he was doing, so I glanced over at him to see he also had a basket of orange medicine bottles. I couldn’t help but think that there was a lot of drugs, but then again their where a lot of people here. He finally came to me and set down a bowl in front of me with my name labeled on the bowl. I glanced at the ghost boy sitting beside me to see if he had a label. He did. His name was Charlie. I looked at the creatures around me. There were fairies, hybrids, spirits, vampires, and many more. All I could wonder was, what am I? I began eating and noticed that the Noppera-bō was seated at the head of the table. He must be the head of the house. Maybe he was master Mikio. I was too afraid to ask in fear of looking stupid. My left side began to twitch again. The fairy across from me noticed and asked, “Are you okay?”
I nodded, “Yeah it happens when I get nervous.”
She smiled,” That’s okay. Everyone here has something a little quirky about them. Like I am afraid of flying. I have only flown one time and it made me so sick that I passed out. I haven’t done it since.”
I was surprised. I had never met a fairy who was scared to use their wings for flight, “That’s interesting. Well, good thing you aren’t required to!”
She frowned, “Well actually I have to see a therapist about it and take flying classes at least once a week. Master Mikio thinks it would benefit me to learn to conquer my fear, so I can go into society and live a more fulfilling life, but I disagree. I want to stay here where I don’t feel obligated to fly.”
I suddenly felt bad for her,” Oh, well I can see both sides. Good luck!”
I had no idea what else to say, so I went back to eating. Then the shadow person who was surprisingly not a dark black but a very light gray that set beside the fairy asked,” If you don’t mind me asking. What species are you?”
I swallowed and looked around nervously, “Um, It’s a secret. I don’t truly understand myself yet, so I want to wait till I can reveal myself.”
The shadow person thought over my answer for a second,” Well then do you mind telling us why you're here?”
I couldn't put this question off to. I already looked sketchy enough, "uh, I am afraid of not being able to die."
The shadow person seemed to accept that answer and went back to eating. I leaned over to Charlie and asked when I could leave. I had finished my meal. He responded, "You are welcome to stay as long or as short as you want. Like S didn't even come to dinner."
"Who's S?" I looked at the long table full of extra naturals to see that there was only one empty chair.
"Oh, he's...well, no one knows actually. Some think he's a glitch others think he's an elemental and others think he is a demon. He's here because he was abandoned by his parents when he was just a toddler, and he found this place right when it first opened. He's never left. I think Master Mikio sees him as a son at the point because he gets away with too much. Like not coming to dinner."
"Oh, well what room is he in? Maybe someone needs to check on him."
"I wouldn't suggest doing that. He's not too nice. The only ones who get along with him are Doctor Kelly, Master Mikio, and Zero. But if you are that curious he's on the top floor room 66."
I had no idea who Doctor Kelly or Zero were, but I desperately wanted to meet S. He didn't know what he was either. Maybe I could tell him that I didn't know what I am and he could help me. I got up and thanked Charlie and hurried out of the dining hall and up the stairs until I reached the top floor. I quickly found room 66 and stopped. The door had burn marks on the bottom on it and what looked like claw marks going across it. I knocked on the door firmly. There was no answer. I grabbed the doorknob expecting it to be locked, but it twisted and the door opened. I stepped into the darkroom and was met with a set of bright glowing blue eyes staring at me.
