The hunt begins anew, although not quite as nightmarish

The next day you sat on the porch in the rocking chair the previous owners of the house had so kindly left behind along with the rest of their belongings. There wasn't much going on other than you letting Roberta put your clothes through the wash.  They'd been caked in so much blood that you were beginning to mistake the smell of your own clothes for that of a beast.  You looked at the blood vial Iosefka gave to you before you left her clinic to join the hunt.  With tears slowly rolling down your cheek you cradled what was left of the poor woman.

(Y/N): I'm sorry Iosefka.

In that moment Roberta opened the door, causing you to hurriedly wipe the tears from your eyes and hide the vial.

Roberta: Your clothes are dryi- wait what were you doing?

(Y/N): Thinking to myself, thank you for telling me, I'll be in there in a minute.

Roberta: *looks at you suspiciously* Okay.

She looked at you before going back inside. You let out a sigh of relief before standing up and going back in.

[Timeskip]

The next day you were walking around in your freshly cleaned clothes, taking in the sights and making sure there wasn't any work for you and Roberta to do.  While walking you bumped into someone and both of you fell over in the process.

????: Oh, I'm sorry. I should watch where I'm going.

Your instincts kicked in and you quickly rolled back to your feet and upon doing so you laid eyes upon a girl dressed in a nun's habit. Being polite, you offered her your hand and helped her up.

(Y/N): No worries, sister. May I ask your name?

The nun looked at your kind smile and it seemed to put her at ease.

????: My name is Asia, Asia Argento.

(Y/N): Pleasure to meet you Sister Argento.

Her eyes then looked down and she saw the holy shawl wrapped around your neck with a small gasp.

Asia: I'm so sorry father. I'll sto-

You stopped her before she could finish.

(Y/N): There's no need to be so formal with me. Will you allow me to escort you to your destination?

Asia: O-okay.

You followed her to the town's abandoned church and parted ways from there. For some reason she reminded you of Adella.

(Y/N): Something bad's going to happen to her, I know it. I'll be damned if I let it happen lying down.

You promised to yourself before going to address the second item on your to-do list today.

[Short Timeskip]

(Y/N): *confused* This is the place?  Who would be sending me here?  For that matter who's sending mail from here.

You looked at the building that the letter in your mailbox had led you to.  I looked like it hadn't been inhabited for easily one to two years.  You shrugged and decided to enter, not being one to shy away from anything, no matter how hopeless it might seem.  Inside the building you wandered aimlessly, looking for anything that might concern you.  While wandering you were intrigued to see that despite your previous observation the interior was spotless, save for a couple cobwebs here and there.  You continued to wander until you came to a door from which you could hear multiple voices.

(Y/N): This must be the place.

You stood there for a second, readying yourself for what could possibly be on the other side before opening the door and poking your head in.

(Y/N): Hello?

Rias: I'm glad you could make it. Take a seat.

You reluctantly sat down, becoming uneasy from the suspicious looks you were getting.

(Y/N): Why did you invite me here?

Rias: After last night we had taken an interest in you, myself and Akeno.

She motioned to the raven-haired girl to her left.

Rias: We looked for anything relating to who you were or what you claimed to be from, and what we found was *pauses briefly* intriguing.

(Y/N): *sounding amused to hide worry* And what exactly would that be?

Rias: According to what we found: your name isn't (Y/N), and your "workshop" is either gone or our sworn enemy.

(Y/N): *remaining calm* Oh, and would you care to elaborate?

Rias: Hunters haven't existed for a long time, Gehrman's workshop disbanded when the church's formed and the church's workshop no longer uses the term.  And we found that your real name is Ga-

You put your hand up interrupting her.

(Y/N): Just because it disbanded doesn't mean I wasn't taught by Gehrman.  My name is (Y/N), I couldn't tell you my surname to save my life, Gascoigne was a fellow hunter, I came across him as the last scraps of his humanity were leaving, mindlessly chopping away at corpses with his axe just for the blood to spray from them.

You took your hat off and looked at it, your tone becoming somber as you recalled the meeting.

(Y/N): By then he was too far gone, there was no reasoning with him as he turned his axe on me.  We fought to the death, not that I had much choice in the matter, and I watched as he slowly descended into beasthood before I put him down. I don't claim to be him, not that it would matter now... *tear falls from eye* If that is all then I'll be leaving. I have no intention of sharing my life story with people that make such wild accusations towards me.

Without another word you put your hat back on, got up, and walked to the door.  Before exiting you looked over your shoulder.

(Y/N): I'll be expecting an apology from you before our next audience.

And with that you left the room, returning to your residence.

[The next day]

You were out for some fresh air and to map out the place you were reluctantly calling home when you ran into a familiar face.  Or, more accurately, two, the nun from yesterday, Asia, and the brunet girl from yesterday's meeting with that Gremory girl, you couldn't recall her name for the life of you. It looked like they were becoming friends.

(Y/N): *Good for them.*

You continued on your way, seeing them in various places, and before long your walk at a fountain, the same one they happened to be at.

(Y/N): There's that feeling again, what could it be?

As you finished the thought the fountain began to ripple, slowly turning into violent churning as a figure levitated above the fountain's center.  Said figure resembling a woman wearing very, *ahem* revealing attire and sporting a pair of jet black wings.

(Y/N): That's probably it.

The woman conjured a spear-shaped construct, throwing it at the brunet, at that moment you knew you had to do something.  You readied your axe and lept into action, deflecting the second spear thrown.

????: What do we have here? Are you so pathetic that you have to hide behind others Isami?

(Y/N): Silence, wicked beast!

She seemed to take offense from your words and glared at you with disdain.

????: I think you'll find the only beast here is the one you're defending.

Your grip on the axe's handle tightened.

(Y/N): I've seen enough to know when one harbors ill intent, and you are the only one I've seen with such intent.

????: *glare hardens* Fine, I'll just kill you both.

You quickly looked over your shoulder.

(Y/N): Run, both of you!

The brunet, you could only assume she was Isami, grabbed the nun's hand and ran as fast as they could.  The following moments were a blur in your memory, mainly due to the author's laziness.  All you could tell for certain was that now you were sat up against a wall in some alley, bleeding like a Russian princess.  It wasn't the blood loss that worried you, you lost more fighting Logarius, it was the fact that the crow woman escaped alive.   It had you worried for the safety of the two from before, you might not be there to help the next time she attacks.

(Y/N): There's no time for me to sit around thinking about it, I need to get back home. I'm sure Roberta is starting to worry.

With a labored grunt you stood up and slowly walked back to the house, blood oozing from the exposed wound.

{Chapter end}

Wow, I can't believe i was actually able to finish this before February, as you can see I'm not dead, not yet at least, and I'm working on new chapters.  Until next time до свидания.
