Chapter 1 New Home

A/N: Hey guys.. welcome to my new Student/Teacher book. :) Hope this is okay for a first chapter. :) Let me know what you think! I haven't wrote anything new in a hot minute so I'm both nervous and excited XD
The header is a mood board for Blaire.

Blaire

Please don't have a stupid sign.. Please don't. I thought as I stepped into the airport in Portland Maine after getting off the plane bringing me to a strange new place I adjusted my duffle bag on my shoulder as . I looked around the airport, and cringed as I spotted it. My name, in bright blue sparkling letters on a posterboard, held by a blonde teenager who looked just about as enthused as I was. Which was very little, in case that wasn't obvious. I sighed heavily and walked over to the girl holding the sign.
"You Blaire?" She asked.
"Yup." I mumbled.
"Sorry about the sign. My mom made it, she and Dad went to get cinnabon while we waited."
"Oh. Okay." I shrugged.
"I'm Emma by the way." The blonde said and tucked the sign under her arm to extend her hand. I hesitantly shook her hand.

"Oh! She's here!" I heard a bubbly voice from behind me.
"Hug incoming..." Emma mumbled a warning to me a bit too late as a woman, who I didn't know from Eve threw her arms around me pulling me close. My arms were hugged to my sides and I felt my entire being tense.
"Mom.. not everyone is a hugger." Emma sighed. "Let her go before she books a flight back to Oregon."
"Oh, I'm sorry sweetie." Emma's mother frowned and released me.
"It's fine." I mumbled. It really wasn't but that was another conversation I didn't want to have. "Well, you've met your cousin Emma, I'm Mary-Margaret, and this is your Uncle David." I looked up, and my heart jumped into my throat. The only thing I knew about my Uncle David was he was my Dad's brother. I didn't know that he was my dad's identical twin brother and this just seemed to be all the more cruel that I had to live with someone who looked exactly like my dad and not even know him.

David picked up immediately that I was uncomfortable.
"I'm, sorry. James and I never spoke, it's not a shock that he probably never mentioned we were twins."
"He never mentioned you at all..actually." I said, and it sounded perhaps a lot meaner than I meant it to but it was the truth, until exactly 5 days ago I had no idea these people even existed.
"Also not shocking." David said and frowned. "Are you hungry? It's about two hours to Storybrooke from here."
"No. I'm fine." I said and quickly looked away from him. This was going to be much worse than I thought it would be.

-------------------------------------------------------

Most of the drive was awkward, so I put my headphones on and turned Pandora to 80s rock radio to drown out the awkward silence while I scrolled through facebook messages, from my friends in Oregon. All those years, building friendships and finally getting comfortable in my own skin. Gone. I was starting over at literally the worst time in my life and didn't really see a point in much.

The only hope I had was in my Dad's defense team. I hoped it wouldn't be too long before he was cleared and I could leave Storybrooke before the dust had time to settle. I knew something terrible had happened to my mother, I felt that. But I refused to believe that Dad had something to do with it. I felt tears welling up in my eyes and glanced to the rearview mirror where David's eyes were watching me. I rolled my eyes and pushed my sunglasses down from the top of my head to cover my eyes.

I felt a nudge on my shoulder, unaware that I had zoned out for so long. I looked beside me at Emma and pulled my headphones off.
"We're home." She said and opened the car door. I unbuckled my seatbelt and opened the car door getting out. I looked up mentally scoffed. This house was like what you would see on TV, where the perfect little family lived. It even had the white picket fence. All it was missing was the-
I heard a dog barking from inside the house.
Dog.

"I know this is a big adjustment for you." David said.
"Why because I lived in a tiny somewhat functional apartment?" I snapped.
"Well..no just everything in general, Blaire."
"I was happy you know, Yeah we didn't live in a big fancy house but we were happy." I said and walked past him. I heard him sigh from behind me. I knew it wasn't his fault all this happened, and he was the only thing stopping me from going into a foster system but I couldn't help but feel resentment and I couldn't help but channel it directly at him. Emma opened the door and a little sheep dog ran out to greet everyone excitedly.
"This is Wilby." Emma said. "He loves everyone."
"Great." I said.
"Come on, I'll show you, your room." Emma said and led me inside the house. There were family pictures plastered everywhere and I Just felt like I was invading someone's space.
Emma led me up the stairs and down the hall.
"This one is yours." She said as we stopped in front of a door. "You can put whatever posters you want on the walls. It's your space. My room is across the hall, and the bathroom is right next to you on the left. We'll set up a schedule for showers and such so we aren't late for school when that starts up." She shrugged.
"Okay." I nodded.
"I'll let you get settled. If you need anything, just ask." Emma smiled at me and then went into her room.

I opened my door, and stepped into the room looking around. There was a bed, a dresser, a desk, a vanity and a TV with a roku hooked up to it. I walked over and looked down at a piece of paper on the TV stand with the wifi password and the Netflix account info.
"Just think of it as your staying in a hotel Blaire and you'll be fine." I said to myself and set my bag on the bed to unpack.

I didn't bring much with me so unpacking took maybe 30 minutes. The clothes were sorted in the dresser and the closet, my laptop was set up on the desk and the only picture I brought with me of myself and my parents was on the nightstand beside the bed along with my half pack of cigarettes and my lighter, which looked very appealing right now. I picked them up and walked to the window and looked out. There was a flat spot on the roof that would be perfect for sitting, right outside my window.
"Perfect." I said picked up my cigarettes and lighter off the nightstand and opened the window before climbing out the window onto the roof.
I no sooner sat down and lit the cigarette before I glanced over at Emma poking her head out my window.
"What are you doing??" She hissed.
I looked at the lit cigarette in my hand and back at her.
"Playing the banjo." I said flatly.

"My dad is going to lose his shit if he sees you. You better hide those." Emma said. "I'm not going to tell him. But he's a cop. He's pretty good at figuring it out on his own."
"Want one?" I asked and held them out to her.
"No!" She sighed. "My parents wanted me to come get you. We're going to Granny's to get dinner."
"More family?" I asked. "I'm good. I'm not hungry."
"It's a diner, and cut the bullshit your stomach was growling the whole way here." Emma said.
"You kiss your mother with that mouth Emma?" I asked and smirked.
"Just put that out and get in here before my parents come up." She practically begged me.
"Fine." I said and put the cigarette out and flicked the remainder of it off the roof.
"Classy." Emma snorted and helped me back into the room. I dug into my pocket and put a piece of gum in my mouth and spritzed a little body spray on myself.
"That work?" I asked.
"You smell like, spearmint, cotton candy and cigarette smoke." Emma sighed. "Just jump in the shower I'll tell them you didn't know we'd be going out and wanted to shower."
"Okay, fine." I rolled my eyes and gathered some clothes.
"I Know you didn't want to come here. It's written all over your face, but it doesn't have to be horrible you know. Not unless you make it that way."
"Do you charge per hour to spew bullshit?" I asked.
"I'm just trying to be nice." Emma sighed.
"I didn't ask you to." I said and grabbed my clothes and went to the bathroom to shower.

After showering, I blow dried my dark Auburn hair and ran a straightener through it quickly. I lined my gray-blue eyes with black eyeliner and colored my lips with a dark purple lipstick. I stepped away from the vanity and looked over my outfit in the mirror on the back of my door. I wore an off shoulder Def Leppard shirt, and deep purple skinny jeans that were riddled with holes all over the thighs. I picked up my very worn black chuck taylors with purple shoe strings and slipped them on before lacing them up.

"Blaire, you ready??" Emma called from downstairs.
"Yeah!" I called back and grumbled a bit to myself before walking out of the bedroom and down the stairs. I looked at Emma, David and Mary-Margaret and instantly felt like I stuck out like a sore thumb.
Wonderful.
David just gave me a friendly smile.
"Ready to go?" He asked.
I gave him a nod, and we all made our way outside. David looked down at the ground and bent down picking up my leftover cigarette I had flicked off the roof. He turned to me and Emma.
"Where did this come from?" He asked and I instantly realized why Emma was trying to avoid this. He was clearly very upset.
"I saw Will from school walking by earlier. He smokes, he probably flicked it into the yard. He's kind of a jerk." Emma shrugged.
David sighed.
"That's likely where it came from." He said and shook his head before discarding it into the trash can.
Emma gave me a told you so look as we got into the car.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Granny's seemed to be your typical home town diner that every small town had. The kind that had a little bit of everything for everyone, and usually a legendary dish the restaurant was known for. Granny's happened to be lasagne.
"What do you like to eat?" Mary-Margaret asked me. "Any food allergies?"
"I'm not picky." I shrugged. "No allergies." I added and looked at the menu and then looked at Emma.
"What do you usually get?" I asked.
"Grilled cheese and onion rings." She smiled. "The onion rings here are the best."
"Hey guys!" A teenager, with dark brown hair tipped with red and bright red lipstick came to the table, with a notepad.
"Hey Rubes." Emma grinned.
"How did you get out of working tonight?" The girl asked.
"Oh, I went with my parents to the airport to pick up my cousin. Ruby, this is Blaire. Blaire, this is Ruby. She's a senior with us this year."
"Hi." I said.
"Hey." Ruby smiled at me. "You guys know what you want?" She asked.
"I think we're ready." David nodded.
"Of course you are, Grilled cheese for Emma, Mrs. Nolan do you want the Lasangne or the Spaghetti tonight?" Ruby asked.
"Spaghetti." Mary-Margaret smiled.
"And Mr. Nolan, you want the Bacon cheeseburger, no pickles or tomato, mustard instead of Mayo, half fries half onion rings. Right?" Ruby asked.
I looked up at David, in almost disbelief. This was my exact order at our diner back home and my dad always made fun of me for it. Now I knew why.
"You got it." David chuckled and Ruby looked at me. "What about you? It will take me a couple weeks ro remember your order."
"Uh.. Same as Emma." I said and shrugged. Couldn't go wrong with grilled cheese.
"Sure. So Victor and I were going to play mini golf later. You and Graham in?" Ruby asked.
"Can I go?" Emma asked her parents.
"Sure." David nodded.
"Oh! Blaire do you want to go?" Emma asked.
I didn't really want to invade on Emma and Ruby's double date.
"No I'm actually tired after the flight." I shrugged.
"Oh.. Well okay." Emma shrugged.

It was an awkward dinner. I didn't know what kind of conversation to make, and I could tell David wanted to talk with me, but he wasn't sure how to.
"So, are you ready for school to start back up? I'm sure keeping yourself busy will help get your mind off of everything." Mary-Margaret smiled.
"Yeah. I guess." I said.
"How do you do in school? Do you like it?" She asked.
"I like it enough I suppose. I used to just go to school and go home. Nothing special." That wasn't exactly true, I had plenty of friends and I was always up to something back home, good or bad. I missed my friends dearly, I just saw no point in trying to make new ones now. I didn't know how long I'd be here.
"Oh. Well.. I teach Home economics at the high school. I have a senior class so I'm sure you'll be in it. It's a small school. Everyones had the same teachers every year just a different level of education."
"Cool." I said. "I uh.. Have to go to the bathroom."
"Oh, hang on." Emma said and slid out of the booth so I could get out. I didn't really have to go I just wanted to get out of this awkward situation. I walked into the two stall womens bathroom and locked myself in one of the stalls and started scrolling through facebook on my phone. The door opened and someone else walked in, talking on the phone.

"Yeah, I'm at Granny's now, what car are you driving?" The woman asked. "Okay. good its really dark in the back of the restaurant park out there and I'll be out shortly." She said and then huffed. "No! Its a small town, I don't want our meeting getting back to my husband." She said.
I felt bad for this woman's husband. What a bitch..
I walked out of the stall and stood there washing my hands, giving her the biggest judgmental look I could muster. She sighed.
"Hang on Jack, theres a kid in here with a staring problem." She grumbled and pulled the phone away from her ear.
"Can I help you?" She asked me and blew a strand of her dark curly hair out of her green eyes.
"Oh no. Don't keep Jack waiting on my account." I muttered.
"Mind your own business Brat." She spat at me and shooed me out of the bathroom. I scoffed and walked out of the bathroom and back to the table, Emma wasn't there anymore.
"Where did Emma go?" I asked.
"Granny let Ruby off early so they went to pick up the boys and go play mini golf. If you change your mind I can drop you off." David suggested.
"No.. I'm fine. I'm expecting a call later anyways." I shrugged and sighed before plopping back down in the booth.

I watched as the woman walked out of the bathroom and to the counter to pick up an order. "Oh! Milah!" Mary-Margaret called. Oh.. For the love of it all, can we not? The woman turned and gave Mary-Margaret a friendly smile. "Mrs. Nolan, hello." She said and looked at me sitting in the booth and her eyes widened. I quickly looked away and down at my food. "Picking up dinner for you and Killian?" Mary-Margaret asked. "Oh. Yeah." Milah replied in a nervous tone. "I better get it, you know Killian can be a grump when things aren't on time." She laughed. "Oh, I know." Mary-Margaret chuckled. "Good to see you." She said. "Likewise." Milah said and I felt her eyes burning holes into the side of my head for a moment before she walked away. "Friend of yours?" I mumbled. "Oh, Her husband teaches History at our school. That's all." Mary-Maragret said. Well that's interesting.
