Chapter 2
Button's p.o.v. (I've been so excited to write from this smol bean's perspective)
Button ran onto the bus, his short tail trailing behind him. School!, A grin grew on the young tom in the middle of the bus. It wasn't hard to spot the energetic tom in the bus filled with tired, upset kittens from age 6 to 10 years old.
Sitting on a grey, hard seat, Button looked around the interior of the bus, spotting a few students that he knew from being on the yellow vehicle.
Ink, he was a 5th grader with pale, blue eyes. He had white fur with many small, black splotches, as if the ink of a pen spilled all over his fur without being faded. Ink also had spots of grey tabby fur, as if pencil led was scribbled onto his fur.
There was also Cloud, a grey tabby Tom with deep blue eyes. He also had a few black spots, which Button found strange. He looked like a storm in Buttons eyes, a calm, relaxed kitten that could turn bad any minute.
Button loved imagining these things, pretending, watching as his mind formed the image of the two cats in his mind. This was one thing that Button loved about school. He loved imagining things, creating small stories. He loved pretending, pretending to have a normal life.
The small tom snapped out of his thoughts when he felt a hard nudge on his side. The young Tom turned to face a white-and-brown queen with a smirk on her face. Button couldn't understand the emotion displayed on her face, she was smiling, but her eyebrows were bent down as if she was angry.
"Hey you little rat, we're at school now, so could you get off, now?" She spat in a demanding tone.
Button flinched after dropping something, picking it up, as well as his other stuff, and pushed past the young queen.
"Have a nice day!" Button chuckled, stepping down onto the sidewalk. He didn't really understand what the girl was saying, other that the "get off the bus" part. The young tom shrugged, Who cares, I'm at school anyways!, thought Button, as his wall slowly turned into a skip.
A smile still spread on his face, he skipped into the school, entering into the gym and sitting down. While students filled the gym, Button observed his surroundings as he waited for the school bell to ring. Even though he known the school like the back of his paw, Button like observing the area many times, it was something to put his mind to when he was bored.
Ring!
The school bell rang throughout the building, causing all of the students to start heading out into the hallway. Button's eyes lit up as he quickly grabbed his bag with his small fangs. He ran out of the gym, trying to get past the cats in the crowded hallway.
The button necklace danced on his chest fur as he walked into his large classroom. There were about 20 kids in the class, who all didn't notice the energetic 7 year old. If the kittens made eye contact with him as they entered, their eyes would give off a glare, whether they meant it or not.
Button didn't seem to notice, or care anyways, he was just a naive, yet adorable fluffball. Blue eyes shining, the young tom opened up his school bag and quickly grabbed his journal and placed it on his desk.
The teacher walked in, with a face that could get anyone quiet in a second. Button let his tail fall off his chair, looking as it dangled in the air. His class slowly got started, and he couldn't be more happy.

Holly's pov
The end of the school day filled Holly with relief as she exited the building. She was about to fly into the sky and head home, but then she heard something not far away.
"Holly!"
The young queen turned to see Slit running towards her, a small smile on their face. Slit slowed down catching her breath. Holly felt cats stare at her when Slit approached, which bothered the young queen.
"Hey," The cream-colored cat paused, " Do you have a couple of minutes? "
Holly paused, looking at the young cat in front of her. She couldn't help but remember the comments she heard earlier. I didn't know she would have a heart for creatures like those two. Holly tried to keep herself from hissing in anger.
"Holly? Did you hear me?" Slit interrupted her thoughts, snapping back into reality.
"Oh, sorry, I just of got lost in thought," Holly paused, trying to keep calm, " Um. . Sure, but I have to get home to check on my little brother. "
Slit tilted her head, slightly confused, " Isn't that what a mom does? Not a sister? "
The young queen didn't understand the cat's misunderstanding that not every family is stable. She would feel irritated if she thought Slit was trying to mock her in any way, but Holly could tell that the young cat was innocent.
"Well, not all the time, my mom has to work a lot so I help with taking care of him," Holly explained , causing the smaller cat's eyes to widen in understanding.
"Oh okay! I understand now, it's just that," the young cat hesitated, folding down her two pairs of ears in an emotion that Holly couldn't quite identify, " I am an only child, and my mom wa- is a ' stay at home' mom, so I didn't understand. "
The air seemed to get heavy around the two, an awkward silence filtering in.
"W-well, all I wanted to say is that me and Shadow are both thankful for you being so nice to us today, and that I hope you would stay an amazing person and maybe possibly be my friend," Slit rambled on, as if their thoughts just scrambled out into the world like ink spilling on paper.
Holly honestly didn't know what to think, in all of her years, no one asked to be her friend. Friendships are hard to make when everyone seems to avoid you.
"I-I, um, it was no problem, I know how it feels to be an outsider and how much it can hurt, so I couldn't deny you two," Holly paused, " and I wouldn't mind being your friend, it's not like I have any others, " the young queen smiled.
Slit's face lit up like fireworks. They suddenly jumped onto Holly, forming it into a hug. The sudden contact caused Holly's face to flush.
"Thank you thank you thank you! I've never had an actual friend other than Shadow!" They thanked in their energetic tone. The cream-colored cat suddenly noticed you they were basically on top of Holly. Slit's face flushed, quickly getting off of the young queen, apologizing over and over.
Holly smiled, rolling back onto her paws and fixing any fur that got messed up.
"Honestly, it's find, you kind of remind me of my younger brother," the young queen winked, " You're both energetic, and can easilly become joyful. "
That was the last of the conversation before they said their goodbyes. Holly jumped into the air, a grin rising in her face. One day, just one day and her thought of the world changed.
Yellow colored leaves slowly fell off of the fall-affected trees as Holly headed to her house. She relaxed, eyes closing, as a soft breeze blew by. Befriending someone for the first time since 2nd grade caused a weight to be lifted off the young queen's shoulder. Even though it was replaced with emptiness, Holly has never felt so relaxed.
And isn't that the perfect time for a memory to resurface?

Holly's pov (I'm experimenting with writing in first person)
Bed sheets, that's all that my paws felt as tears silently fell down my face. I made out a conversation coming from outside my room. Mom and Dad are fighting again... I tried to fold my ears down to hear it.
"Do you realize how much this decision will hurt her?"
" Its not like I'm leaving her, I'm leaving you! Plus, she needs something to help her prepare for heartbreak, she's in her own world! "
" She's only 8, Walter! "
I hid under the covers, the fighting hurt my ears. I was crying even harder now.
"Its going to kill her, she already has trust issues and few friends to call back on, are you sure now is the right time?"
I didn't know who or what they were fighting about, but they've been at this for what felt like an hour to me. Are they talking about me? Did I do something wrong? All I did was steal a cookie, and then the fight started. I don't understand fighting. Can't cats just compromise? It's like cats are separated into clans, fighting for land to feed their wants and opinions.
I just want it to stop.

Tears glazed Holly's eyes as she regained focus on the world around her. The young queen's lip curled up into a bitter smile. He thought he did nothing wrong. He thought that something good came out of it. Nothing good came out of it. I'm just a damaged, forgotten child.
Holly fought the tears threatening to spill down her face. Mixed emotions that built up over the years seemed to be forcing down her thoughts. Home isn't that far, so Holly lowered her height in the air. After reaching the neighborhood, she landed into the ground, landing onto the driveway of her home. It was a rare sight to see, a car in the driveway. Mom's home?
When Holly entered the house, she heard a squeak, and then the running of paws.
"Holly! Holly! You're back!" Squealed the white fluffball that was her smaller brother.
"Of course I'm back silly!" Holly giggled, walking past Button, and turning left into the hallway towards her room.
"So, what did my smart brother learn today?" She asked, opening her door and placing her bag on the inner doorknob.
"Oh! Something called.. Divideling? Or dividing?.. I don't know, it's confusing.."
Amusement filled Holly's eyes, knowing the young innocence of the kitten.
"Got any homework?"
" Yeah, and it's about division. "
An understanding face grew onto Holly, " You want me to help you, don't cha'? " Button nodded with guilt. The young queen sighed, "Okay, but I need to do something first, so go ahead and go in the living room and start it okay?"
" Okay! "
Holly closed her door, signing before walking towards her mom's door. She felt hesitation, but brushed it off, opening the door. The room is dark, the young queen saw her mom on the bed, sleeping. Holly just stood there, too scared to do anything.
Come on Holly, you can do this, she gulped.
"M-mom?" The young queen called, freaking. She couldn't get out of this now. Her mother stirred, shifting a little bit. The silence taunted Holly, " Momma? " She spoke louder.
"Sweetie?" Holly mom spoke softly. The young cat smiled, tears forming in the corner of her eye. She jumped into the bed, embracing her mom into a hug.
"I-mom-I" She paused, " I haven't talked to you in a while. "
"I know sweetie, and I'm so sorry that I have to have 4 jobs just to help us get by. I'm a horrible mother, I can't really give you a parental figure, and You're forced to be one for Button, I wish I could be there," her mom rambled on .
"Its fine mom, I know that, it's okay."
Silence filled the room , they just appreciated each others company.
"When..," Holly finally spoke up again, looking into her mother's icy blue eyes " When can I talk to you again? I promised Button I'll help with his homework on dividing. "
Her mom's ears perked up, " Dividing? Already? "
A smile grew on Holly's face, " Yep, he's grown up so fast. "
"So have you," she paused, " Holly, my darling, stay strong, and be there for Button, he'll need it. "
Holly's ear twitched, "Of course Mom."
