Chapter 71
"I still can't believe that you and Barry are the only ones who get to attend Oliver's wedding." Cisco said to Caitlin, who was acting leader of Team Flash while Barry was in Star City for his tux fitting for Oliver's wedding.
"Join the Justice League, you get on the invite list for these kinds of things. Or dump Lisa and start dating one of the single female members of the League." Caitlin said.
"Are there any single female members of the League?" Cisco asked and Caitlin paused for a second to think about it.
"Now that I think about it, no, there aren't. Most of the single people in the League are guys and you're not their type." Caitlin said.
"Not to mention I am not dumping Lisa." Cisco said.
"Seriously Cisco, when are you going to tell Lisa your secret?" Caitlin asked.
"I will eventually. But it's not just my secret I'd have to tell her. It's all of ours." Cisco said.
"And that is just an excuse. You like having something normal in your life and you don't want to give it up." Caitlin said.
"So what if I don't?" Cisco asked.
"So, I think that it's only a matter of time until her big brother comes rolling back into town on another job and it's gonna get ugly if she gets caught in the crossfire. And she's not an idiot. Eventually, she'll put it together herself. One of the reasons Barry and I are in such good places in our relationships is that we don't keep secrets in our relationships. Well, aside from Justice League secrets." Caitlin said.
"Why do you have to keep reminding me that you're in the Justice League but I'm not." Cisco said.
"Seriously, this fight again?" Iris asked as she and Gabby came in from their fitting for their dresses for Oliver's wedding, since they were attending as Barry and Caitlin's plus ones.
"Cisco, Iris and I aren't in the Justice League either and we aren't bitching about it. It'll happen when we prove to the entire league that we're ready and not using our relationships with active members to try and get votes." Gabby rolled her eyes.
"And I wasn't even rubbing it in. At least not intentionally. I was trying to convince Cisco to come clean to Lisa about Vibe and I was telling him that aside from Justice League secrets, Barry and I don't keep secrets regarding our relationships from you two." Caitlin said.
"And that is true. And honestly, I don't want to know all those secrets yet, since I'm still at the state of my reporting career where I'd have to resist the urge to print them. It's only my military training that keeps me from printing Flash's secret identity. I still don't know how Lois Lane resists the urge to tell the world Superman's real name." Iris said.
"Because doing so would place a target on her whole family's backs." Gabby said.
"Right." Iris said, right as Caitlin's phone rang.
"Wally, what's going on?" Caitlin asked Team Flash's youngest member.
"I think Firestorm and I finally have a lead on Goldface. One of Black Lightning's contacts in Freeland, he gave us a location of a lowlife named Earl Cox. After some persuasion, he gave us a location and passphrase to say to get in." Wally said and Caitlin grinned, since now the League had a chance to take down Goldface's operation and rescue the kids he'd kidnapped.
"Okay great Wally. Tell Young Justice their part of the mission is complete. Give me the passphrase and Team Flash and the League will take it from here." Caitlin said.
"Wait, why can't we do it?" Wally asked.
"Because you're still kids and in no way ready for this kind of thing. Now stand down. That's an order." Caitlin said as Wally reluctantly gave her the location and passphrase.
"Do you really expect my brother to listen to you?" Iris asked.
"No. That's why we got your parents to let Cisco install a metahuman dampening field in their house after he got his powers, so we can put him on lockdown until the mission is done." Cailtin said.
"And dad just thought he'd be using it to keep Wally at home when he's grounded." Iris said.
"That's its secondary purpose. But since Wally doesn't have the same respect for the rules that the other members of Young Justice have, we keep him on a tighter leash." Caitlin said.
"A bunch of teenagers respect rules?" Iris asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Robin and Spoiler are scared of Batman, Superboy has the same morals as Superman, Powergirl has to set an example as the leader of Young Justice, Wonder Girl idolizes her sister, Aqualad is loyal to his king, Lightning's father built a kill switch for her powers into her suit and Silver Arrow and Wildcat are both extremely loyal to Green Arrow." Caitlin said.
"Leaving Wally as the loose cannon." Iris said and Caitlin nodded.
"I know Barry was hoping that Young Justice would help mellow Wally out, but he's too rash and reckless. I know the speed force saved his life, but it also made him an even bigger pain in the ass." Caitlin said, since she'd grown up with Wally since her mom had married Barry's dad.
"Tell me about it." Iris agreed.
"Anyways, who's gonna take on this mission to find Goldface?" Cisco asked.
"Well, it was my case originally, so I'm in, especially since I think that Flash and Ice Maiden are a little too recognizable. And I think that Lisa should join me, since she has experience with these kinds of places due to her asshole brother dragging her along to them." Gabby said.
"No way, I do not want Lisa involved in this." Cisco said.
"Then you shouldn't have started dating her, since she's getting involved and this will lay the foundation for when you tell her the truth, since you're going to have to tell her eventually." Gabby said.
