Chapter 59
Caitlin was honestly grateful that Barry had gone on vacation when he did, since with Gabby out of the country searching for answers regarding her amulet, so Caitlin needed something to keep herself occupied, beyond her job.
So, with the Flash out of town, Ice Maiden was pulling double shifts as the protector of Central City, literally doing everything she could to keep busy between her main job at Argo Enterprises and her other job of being one of Central City's protectors, doing whatever she could to distract herself from how much she missed Gabby. And how angry she was at Gabby for practically ghosting her, since she'd barely heard a peep from Gabby since she'd left.
Anyways, Ice Maiden was currently breaking up some kind of gang meeting. She didn't know what they were up to, beyond the fact that she'd overheard them talking about expanding their enterprise into some kind of new lucrative field.
Obviously she had to put a stop to that, so she jumped in, but she was surprised by the kind of firepower these guys were packing. Apparently they'd also stolen meta weapons from some tech company, likely from McCulloch Technologies, since Caitlin was aware of the competition and she recognized their technology in those weapons.
Anyways, while Ice Maiden did her best, all the time she'd put in over the past few days had taken its toll on her and she wasn't at her best and she was quickly forced on the defensive as she put up an ice shield, but she couldn't hold it for much longer and while she hated to be the first member of the Justice League to ever back down from a fight, but she wouldn't have a choice, since she was burnt out, ironically considering her powers, but still.
However, she needed to retreat, Ice Maiden heard some kind of sci fi noise as suddenly a blue portal opened out of nowhere and Cisco jumped out of it, wearing the suit she knew he'd been making for himself since his powers had surfaced.
"What the?" Ice Maiden asked as Cisco, or Vibe as he was calling himself.
"I'm here to save your ass." Vibe said as he blasted the crooks back, right as sirens blared, indicating CCPD had arrived.
"Let's get out of here. Joe and CCPD can take it from here." Vibe said as he pulled Ice Maiden through the breach.
"Thanks for the save Cisco." Caitlin said as she reverted to her non hero form.
"My pleasure. What better way to get in the Justice League than by saving one of its members." Cisco said smugly.
"You know it has to be a unanimous vote right and the bylaws say nothing about saying no for petty reasons." Caitlin asked with a slight smile.
"Seriously though, Cait, what was up with that. That should've been a piece of cake for you." Cisco said as Caitlin sighed as she collapsed in a chair and that was when Cisco realized just how exhausted Caitlin looked.
"When was the last time you got a good night's sleep?" Cisco asked, already suspecting the answer.
"Probably not since Gabby left for Nepal. I mean, I know why she left and I support her, but I didn't think that she'd completely cut me out of her life. I mean, almost no contact the past few weeks. So, I've been throwing myself into both of my jobs to keep me busy, especially since Barry's out of town and made it clear that he's not to be disturbed." Caitlin said.
"You really love Gabby don't you?" Cisco asked, since that was the only reason Caitlin would be holding onto a girl who'd practically ghosted her.
"She's the first person I could ever see myself going the distance with. Which is why I need to keep busy to keep myself from wallowing." Caitlin said.
"I get it. While I'm not sure Lisa and I are at that stage yet, she was definitely something I wasn't expecting in my life, I mean I never would've thought that a guy like me could score a girl like her, but I did. But Caitlin, what you are doing, it's not healthy. You're clearly burnt out. You need to follow Barry's lead and take some time off to reset." Cisco said.
"Yeah, if I do that, I'll be spending it at a bar trying to drink myself into forgetting about Gabby for a few hours, which isn't very healthy either and risks me ruining both of my reputations. I can't win." Caitlin said.
"Actually, I have a way that you can win." Cisco said and to Caitlin's surprise, he tossed her a bag.
"What's this?" Caitlin asked.
"An overnight bag courtesy of your mom. And this is your ride." Cisco said as he opened another breach.
"And where is this my ride too?" Caitlin asked and Cisco grinned.
"Just trust me, you'll like it. Walk through it and you'll see. And just call me when you're ready to breach home. And I will cover as Central City's designated superhero, since I need to get on the Justice League's radar somehow and protecting the city while both Flash and Ice Maiden are gone looks good on my resume." Cisco said.
"Okay, I'll trust you for now." Caitlin said as she walked through the breach and as soon as she saw what was on the other side, she grinned.
"Hey baby. I hear you've been missing me." Gabby said with a smile as Caitlin took in the romantic environment and her outfit, since Gabby was wearing a Tibetan robe and she'd set up the room to serve as a massage parlour.
"Why do I get the feeling that you haven't just been learning about your amulet while you were here?" Caitlin asked with a smile as she dropped her bag and walked up to her and Gabby placed her arms around her neck.
"I'll tell you about that when we get home tomorrow, since I did accomplish what I came here to do, but I wanted to show you my appreciation for letting me take this trip, knowing that I needed to do it, despite the fact that it would mean that we'd be apart for a while. So, I took some massage classes while I was here and now, I'd like to put them to use removing all the stress I can see on your shoulders." Gabby said as she removed the jacket of Caitlin's suit.
"Are you sure you learned enough to make it up to me?" Caitlin asked with a smile as she wrapped her own arms around Gabby's waist.
"I do. Especially since now I can finally say something to you that I should've said a long time ago." Gabby said.
"And that is?" Caitlin asked.
"I love you Caitlin. I've loved you since the day we met and now I can finally say it." Gabby said and Caitlin smiled.
"And I have been waiting for you to say it first, but I love you, Gabby. You're the only one who's ever been able to thaw my icy heart." Caitlin said.
"Wow, you just couldn't resist, could you?" Gabby said.
"Shut up. We've spent too much time talking already. But don't worry, I'll let you show me what you learned before we go home. Eventually." Caitlin said with a smirk as she and Gabby kissed and they both let things develop further than they ever have before, getting lost in each other.
