Chapter 43

After Flash returned with Red Tornado's remains, he saw the look of horror on Morrow's face at the site of his creation, his son, looking like that.

"What butcher did this to my son?" Morrow asked.

"One who was turned into a monster by an even worse monster and is now rotting in supervillain prison. And you're lucky that your talents are in high enough demand to avoid a trip there yourself. This time." Flash said and Morrow nodded, though he actually looked sad at this.

"We have upheld our end of the bargain so far and everything is in place. Including Ms. West being prepped for the operation. It's time for you to uphold your end of it." Fate said.

"I am a man of my word. And I promise that I will do nothing that was not asked by either you or the patient." Morrow said, turning his attention over to Iris, who was currently lying on a lab table wearing a hospital gown and she had a mask on her face to give her anesthesia to keep her under and she also had a respirator attached to her to help her breathe during the operation.

"I suggest that you stay here, since this is beyond your comprehension." Morrow said as he walked over to the controls for the machinery.

"I swear, if anything happens to her, the deal is off and you're going to prison." Flash said.

"Quiet, I'm trying to concentrate. I suggest that you keep silent to ensure that nothing unfortunate happens." Morrow snapped as he got back to his work and brought several mechanical tubes down from the ceiling and carefully inserted them into Iris's body.

"Beginning nanite infusion now." Morrow said as he monitored Iris's vitals as he put a progress bar on a monitor for Flash and Fate to see.

"How's it looking?" Flash asked.

"So far so good, but we're only at 20% so far. It's a very delicate process. But so far her body is accepting the nanites. However, I can't activate them until the infusion is complete." Morrow said.

"What will power the nanites, since they are machines and while your science is advanced, I'm sure your machines will still require energy." Fate asked.

"That's why we have to wait until the infusion is complete to activate them, since they're basically going to integrate themselves into the host's body so that they'll receive energy the same way her biological systems get energy. Through eating and sleeping. It's extremely experimental technology and as you're aware, I made sure Ms. West was aware of all the risks before I agreed to perform the surgery. She knew what she was getting herself into." Morrow said defensively.

"We weren't accusing you, we were curious." Flash assured him, since while he didn't trust Morrow, he knew Morrow was smart enough not to screw things up and he genuinely was curious about how this whole thing would work.

"Good." Morrow said.

"It's a shame you had to go insane Dr. Morrow. Your technology really could've helped a lot of people." Fate acknowledged, since while he was evil, TO Morrow's technology really was amazing.

"Perhaps. But what's done is done. Now let's get this over with so I can go back to my life." Morrow said as he returned to the matter at hand, especially since the progress bar now read 100% complete.

"Now comes the really painful part. Fate, if you know any mystic mumbo jumbo that can help ensure that Ms. West's body fully accepts the nanites, now would be the time to do it, otherwise, well, if her body rejects them, it's game over." Morrow said, since while he'd told them this before, he felt it necessary to reiterate that point.

"I'll see what I can do. I will not allow her to die." Fate said, since he'd lost his own wife Inza not that long ago, at least to him and he wouldn't allow Flash to feel that pain before he'd even gotten married yet. And with that in mind, he began to perform his magic, causing Iris's body to shimmer with golden light as Morrow activated the nanites as they began to attach themselves to her body, integrating fully with her nervous and skeletal systems.

"Well?" Flash asked nervously as he looked at Iris, refusing to look away as the procedure was completed.

Morrow looked at his scans and smiled at what he saw.

"The procedure was a success and her body has accepted the nanites. They're already beginning to repair the damage done to her spine and it appears that they've also integrated with her bionic arm, fusing it to her body as if it was her actual one." Morrow said.

"That's incredible. We might need to see what use your tech has for medical purposes. How long until she wakes up?" Flash asked.

"I recommend that we keep her under for at least the next 12 hours due to the pain her body is no doubt in right now as it adjusts. However, given another hour, it should be safe to move her somewhere more comfortable. Though I think that now is the time I should tell you that while you were retrieving Red Tornado's body, Iris did ask me to add something extra to the nanites and told me not to tell you until the procedure was complete." Morrow said.

"What did you do?" Flash demanded.

"She wanted me to give her the same powers Red Tornado had and I agreed. That's the other reason I want to keep her unconscious for a while. To allow her body to adjust to the powers. She'll be able to do all the things Red Tornado can do, which is why I need to begin rebuilding him so she'll have a teacher." Morrow said, since he wasn't delusional enough to think that they'd let him keep Tornado after he repaired him, nor would Tornado want to stay.

"Why would you agree to do that?" Flash asked.

"She had this look in her eyes that clearly meant I'm not asking, I'm telling you what's going to happen. She wanted to make sure she could never be hurt like that again, though I don't know why she was so insistent on doing it behind your back." Morrow said and Fate chuckled.

"Because she knows that Flash would never have allowed it, due to how overprotective he can be of her. But Iris is a lot like my Inza. She's a spitfire and a force of nature that should not be challenged. Especially since now Iris can control a force of nature. You should've seen this coming Flash." Fate said and Flash nodded, since he knew that Fate was right and while he'd felt some initial shock at first, after taking some time to think it over, this completely sounded like something Iris would do. He just hoped that she'd truly thought this through, since now that she had these abilities, it would be on her to learn how to use them.

"Well, at least my friend will be happy to be able to give her a name, since Red Tornado is off the table. But you should get started on rebuilding him. And maybe we'll let you keep Inferno and Torpedo for now. At least until you try to use them to attack us." Flash said.

"We'll see what happens." Morrow said, since he agreed that once they were done here, they'd become enemies again, since right now, their goals just aligned. Once that was over, all bets were off.

But for now, he wanted to work on Red Tornado while he was still being given the chance.
