Chapter 32

Eobard Thawne was not happy. His plan had completely ruined with the formation of the Justice League this soon, since his entire plan had been built around the Flash being a solo act, even with his sister on his side. Even discovering that Henry Allen was a speedster, something he hadn't been aware of, since that was an event that predated his changes to the timeline and even so, timeline changes wouldn't effect changes to other earths like Henry claimed to be from, but still, those were obstacles he could handle.

But now that the Justice League had been formed years before it should have, the Flash now has a much stronger support system that could easily beat him, especially in his weakened state. Which meant that instead of going with his original plan of using the Flash to get home, he'd need to focus on restoring his connection to the negative speed force so that he could beat the Flash while he was still relatively new and inexperienced and before he became the veteran hero that Thawne knew he'd become in the future. The hero he held nothing but hatred for. And that hatred grew as he realized that the past 15 years he'd spent observing Barry had basically been for nothing.

"Gideon, have you figured out what caused the timeline to change so much? Caitlin Snow becoming Ice Maiden so soon, Henry Allen remarrying and not going to prison for his wife's murder, the formation of the Justice League years ahead of when it was supposed to and not even with the right founding membership." Thawne asked, furious at just how much things had slipped out of his control, since if there was one thing he'd always prided himself on, it was the fact that he was only speedster who knew how to manipulate the timeline to get what he wanted and now he'd lost that.

"My best assumption is that it's an after effect of both yours and the Flash's time jump." Gideon said.

"Explain?" Thawne asked.

"As you're aware, breaking the time barrier to time travel is similar to when you break the sonic barrier." Gideon said.

"Yeah, just like how when you break the sound barrier, there's a sonic boom, when you break the time barrier, it's a time boom. Chronal radiation can affect the events surrounding the time impacted, but my actions alone wouldn't have caused changes of this magnitude. It should've been limited to the more surrounding time periods." Thawne asked.

"Except it wasn't just you. When the Flash followed you back in time, he created his own temporal boom that amplified the impact of your own. I believe that is also part of the reason why your connection to the negative speed force has become unstable. You and the Flash have been releasing large amounts of chronal energy throughout the timeline during your battles across it for years. My new hypothesis is that after you erased the Flash from existence, the universe stepped in to prevent you from doing anymore damage to the timeline without the Flash there to balance it out and to allow the timeline to stabilize." Gideon said.

"So the reason my speed is sporadic is because when I killed Nora Allen, I made the timeline too unstable to be able to reliably time travel." Thawne said.

"In a way, yes. However, now that Barry Allen has received his speed, my assumption is that the speed force began trying to fortify the timeline to keep either of you from wreaking too much damage on it." Gideon said.

"Interesting. But still, if I can't plan on getting home using Barry the way I originally planned, then maybe it's time to look into alternative options. Mainly figuring out a way to restore my speed, since if I'm going to wage war against the Flash, I need to be at my best. Regain my advantage and restore my powers to full before the Flash has time to fully master his. Which means it's time to alter our plans a bit. Grodd." Thawne said as the gorilla approached.

"What does father desire?" Grodd asked.

"We're moving up our plans a bit and I think you're going to like what I'm about to ask you to do." Thawne said.

"What is it?" Grodd asked.

"I just want a reunion with an old friend of ours. I'm sure you remember him." Thawne asked as he showed Grodd a holographic image of General Wade Eiling.

"Eiling." Grodd snarled.

"We need him alive buddy. For now. But that doesn't mean that his usefulness won't run out and when it does, he'll be all yours, since I doubt even the Flash would want to help him after he learns what I know." Thawne said.

"As you wish father." Grodd agreed, though it was slightly reluctantly.
