Chapter 30

"Well, what do you think?" Carla asked Iris as they walked into the building Carla had bought Iris for her to launch her newspaper, which she'd decided to call the Central City Citizen.

"I don't know what to say. This is too much Carla. You didn't have to do this." Iris said as she hugged her future mother-in-law.

"The world needs more journalists like you Iris. I saw the stories you posted on your blog during the war. That was real journalism, the kind that people normally attribute to Lois Lane or Cat Grant. It was fair and unbiased. Besides, you can consider this a recovery present, since it's so good to see you back on your feet." Carla said, since while Barry had been away fighting in what the media had dubbed the Atlantis Wars, Caitlin and Gabby had been putting Iris through the ringer of physical therapy and now she was walking as well as she did before the bombing. Not to mention she was pretty sure that whatever Gabby's necklace had done to her, it had also healed all the other injuries she'd acquired during her time overseas, aside from her arm, which Iris was fine with, since she wanted to have some kind of reminder of what she'd been through. It was a part of who she was, she didn't want to forget it or deny it. They still didn't know what had caused her to heal, but Iris wasn't complaining, since she'd hated being confined in that chair and it was nice to have her life back.

"Thank you for this Carla." Iris said to her.

"I'm more than happy to do it for you Iris. But you still need to hire a staff, since while I can help you with everything else, I can't find talent, since Gabby is a private investigator." Carla said.

"Yeah, she's looking into the bastard who sent our unit into that ambush to killed them and crippled me until her necklace did whatever it did to me. She's also looking into that. That girl has always been full of questions." Iris said.

"Yes, though I'm glad that she and Caitlin are finally going out, since I've been waiting for Caitlin to find a nice girl for years." Carla said and Iris nodded.

"Who knows, maybe Gabby will also become your daughter-in-law in the future." Iris said, since even though Caitlin and Gabby hadn't even gone out on their first date yet, she could tell there was a special spark between them.

"I'm also glad that Caitlin's gotten better control of her powers. When they first emerged, I was afraid she was going to end up like her father, trapped inside the body of an ice demon." Carla said.

"It probably helps that Caitlin didn't get her powers the same way her dad did, since you stopped him before he could put her through the same procedure he put himself through." Iris said and Carla nodded.

"Caitlin was born with a natural metagene like Barry was and I think that gene is what prevented her from developing ALS like her father did. It's just a coincidence that her powers are ice based too." Carla said and Iris nodded as they continued their discussion.

"So, now the Zeta tube is a top priority for our new boss?" Cisco asked Barry as they and Caitlin walked through Mount Flash as he brought them up to speed on what they'd missed while he was fighting the war.

"Yeah, before we went our separate ways, I told Kara about my dad's Zeta tube and how you were trying to convince Jesse to greenlight the funding and Kara thought that they'd be very valuable, especially to the League and eventually the general public. She told me that she's going to make working on zeta tech Star Labs' top priority and she's naming the project the Ordell Initiative, so it'll become a high priority and I made sure to recommend you to run the project, since it was your pitch." Barry said and Cisco grinned.

"Thanks Barry." Cisco said with a grin.

"On a different topic, remember how you said we should keep an eye on Jesse after her dad's death?" Caitlin asked.

"Yeah?" Barry asked.

"You were right. She's dealing with her dad's death in an even worse way than you did, since I think she's trying to develop a way to give herself speed." Caitlin said.

"Of course she is. What's she working on?" Barry asked, since from what his dad had told him about the speed force, trying to manipulate it could be disastrous, especially if done improperly.

"Not sure. But I do think that maybe we should consider bringing her into the fold so we can keep an eye on her." Caitlin said.

"Not a bad idea. Especially since I'm already on a first name basis with her boss and she could give us access to higher level projects that Argo Enterprises has." Barry agreed, since bringing Jesse into the fold wasn't a bad idea, since while they already had him, Caitlin, Cisco, Henry and Carla on the team, they could never have too many scientific geniuses.
