Chapter 22
Iris smiled as she finished her latest therapy session with Dr. Krell, her counselor to help her with her PTSD. It was thanks to this woman that she was actually sleeping through the night without night terrors again. Something that she didn't think would ever happen again after she'd started seeing the things she had overseas.
Anyways, now she was wheeling herself next door to Jitters like she always did after a session, since now that she was getting the hang of both her chair and her new arm, Iris was eager to try and maintain as much of a normal life as possible, including getting her favorite coffee from Jitters, especially since she usually felt pretty drained emotionally after their sessions, so a coffee was always appreciated. Especially since it was one of the many things she'd missed when she was overseas, since the gunk that passed for coffee around the base was barely drinkable.
But as she sat at her usual table at Jitters, drinking her triple shot mocha latte and with a nice scone with it, since now she needed to start thinking about what she was going to do for work, since while she could honestly get by on Barry's pay and her military leave, not to mention disability, but that wasn't her. She needed to make her own way. Besides, her dream had always been to be a reporter, like her idols, Lois Lane and Cat Grant. But she wasn't sure how she was ever going to become a reporter that renowned while she was stuck in this chair, but she wasn't going to let herself become depressed over that. She'd find a way to overcome her disability, no matter what it took.
But she was pulled from her thoughts when she heard someone get her attention by slamming their hand on her table, making her jump to the extent she could and scowled when she looked up and saw who it was.
"Hey babe." her old grade school acquaintance, Tony Woodward, said with what he clearly thought was some kind of flirty smile, but really, it made him look like even more of a smug jackass than he already was.
"Tony." Iris said, since her memories of this guy were not fond, since she remembered how much crap he'd given Barry after his mother had died and he'd been a jerk to Caitlin too.
"What, I thought you'd be happy to see a familiar face." Tony said smugly.
"Not when it's your smug mug." Iris said.
"Really? I thought you'd be happy to see me." Tony said.
"And why is that?" Iris asked.
"Because given your current situation, it looks like you could use a big strong man to help keep you safe." Tony said smugly and Iris glared at him.
"Even if I did, which I don't, I sure as hell wouldn't ask a sexist bastard like you to do it." Iris said.
"Don't tell me you're still wasting your time with that Allen freak? The only thing he's good for is taking a beating." Tony said.
"Wow, how is it that even though you look like a grown man, you still have the maturity of an elementary schooler?" Iris asked.
"Come on baby. I'm just trying to be helpful. After all, I know that you're just stringing Allen along until you can find a real man to make you feel good." Tony said and Iris was honestly glad that her right hand was bionic, since that meant it would hurt him a bit more when she smacked which she was close to doing.
"Barry's more of a real man than you'll ever be. Now get lost before I yell out assault, since I'm assuming that a guy like you hates cops." Iris said angrily, grateful that Cisco had added what he called a panic button to her phone that once activated would send an alert not only to the computer in Mount Flash, which Iris had yet to see by the way, but also to the phones of every member of team Flash, including her father the cop and her boyfriend, the Flash.
"Excuse me, is there an issue here?" Gabby asked as she stepped in, since she was at Jitters to pick Iris up, since while Iris was healing, she hadn't yet learned how to drive with her current disabilities, since it would require more than just modifying a car, it would also require her learning how to use it.
"Mind your own business bitch." Tony said and Iris actually winced, since she knew how Gabby responded to people calling her that and it was never pretty.
"Yeah, I hate it when people use that word you asshole." Gabby said as she tried to slug Tony, only for his skin to ripple and briefly turn to metal and she pulled her hand back and cursed in pain.
"Damn, is your head literally full of rocks?" Gabby asked as Iris knew that this was above their pay grade as she tapped her panic button as Tony's entire body turned to metal before he backhanded Abby, sending her flying back.
"Now, where were we?" Tony asked with a sick grin, right as the Flash sped into Jitters for the world to see that he existed.
"Is there a problem here?" Flash asked.
"Who are you supposed to be?" Tony asked arrogantly.
"I'm the Flash. And you don't know how long I've been waiting for this." Flash said, since he recognized the meta as the bully who'd made both his and his sister's life a living hell while they were in school.
"Really. Cause all I see is another punk who was born to take a beating." Tony said.
"We'll see. But why don't we take this outside. Unless you're too scared?" Flash asked, taunting him and sure enough, Tony took the bait as he charged at Flash, who sped away.
"Coward." Tony said as he followed Flash away from the crowd to a place where not as many people would get hurt by their fight.
