Chapter 19
"Okay, this is not how I thought I'd be invited to Dr. Wells' home." Barry said as he and Joe, along with the rest of CCPD walked up to Harrison Wells's mansion to find his daughter Jesse in hysterics waiting for them, standing over her father's body.
"I didn't do it and I have proof." was the first thing Jesse said.
"Why don't you tell us what happened?" Barry asked, since this scene looked a little too familiar to him as he saw that Patty and Julian were already at work.
"First, let's see this proof that you're not the killer." Joe said, since while he didn't believe that this young girl was the killer, it was a known fact that she hated her father, she'd been the only visitor Harrison Wells had had tonight. The evidence right now was pretty damning.
"Happy too. This is a recording from my smart watch, not to mention the house's security cameras." Jesse said as she used her watch to project video of a scene that was almost identical to the one Barry had seen the night his mother died, but with only red lightning, no yellow and the man in yellow was clearly seen.
"Can we authenticate this?" Joe asked, since he knew what was going through Barry's head and he was dreading the I told you so Barry was bound to have ready once they were alone.
"I already did Detective. The footage is genuine and it's also on the security cameras." Julian said.
"I knew he was real." Barry said.
"Barry." Joe said.
"Wait, you know this guy?" Jesse asked incredulously.
"The man that killed your father is the same man who killed my mother over a decade ago. Though until now, I never had any proof he was real." Barry said, looking at Joe.
"Can you save the I told you so for later. But why would this man kill Dr. Wells?" Joe asked.
"I mean there are plenty of people in this city who'd want to after the accelerator exploded and the man in yellow did say that my dad needed to pay for his sins. I guess one of them decided to act on it. But how was he able to move that fast?" Jesse asked.
"I don't know." Barry said, genuinely, since he didn't know how the man in yellow could've gotten his speed, since Barry knew that his speed came from his father, but he had no idea where this man could've gotten his powers from.
Joe looked at Jesse and he couldn't help but get flashbacks to Barry back when his mother was murdered, the only difference was that this time Joe believed him about what killed his mother.
"We need to get the body down to the morgue." Eddie now said.
"It's already being taken care of." Jullian assured him.
"Good. God, I came tonight to try and make amends with my father, and instead I have to bury him." Jesse said, tears coming to her eyes.
"Eddie, can you please take Ms. Morgan down to the station to give her official statement." Joe asked Eddie, who nodded.
"Yeah, we'll get her statement and then put out an ABP on this man in yellow." Eddie promised as he showed Jesse out.
"Joe, the guy I haven been searching for is finally back. I need to check my files." Barry said.
"Barry, slow down, no pun intended. First thing's first, I think you need to tell your dad." Joe said.
"Right. Especially since he needs to step up my training if I'm gonna have a chance at beating this guy, whoever the hell he is." Barry said.
"Barry, we need to be smart about this. We don't even know who this guy is or why he killed your mother in the first place or why he's back now." Joe said.
"Joe, this is the guy who killed my mom, nearly sent my dad to prison if it weren't for the fact that Superman exists." Barry said.
"I know. But rushing into this situation blindly and with your judgment clouded, it's a surefire way to add your name to this guy's list of victims. You have to keep your emotions in check or you're gonna make mistakes. Some of them might be small, but some of them will be big and they'll likely end up getting people hurt. Something that your powers will make even worse. Before you suit up and go chasing after the bad guys, you need to make sure you know how to use your speed and you can't just rely on it. Cops don't just rely on their guns. Our greatest weapons are our minds. Our experience. Trust me on this Barr. I know you want to rush in and get this guy like you always have, but for once in your life, slow down and think things through. At least wait until after Gabriella's trained you how to fight without your powers, since you can't rely on them to win every fight." Joe said and while Barry didn't like it, he knew Joe was right.
"Fine. But the second we get a lead on this guy, I'm going after him and no one is going to stop me from finally getting justice for my mother and now Dr. Wells." Barry said as he got back to work.
