Chapter 16

"You know I can do this myself thanks to Carla right?" Iris asked as Barry pushed her wheelchair down the hall from the elevator to their apartment, despite the fact that Iris now had a prosthetic arm that she'd pretty much mastered using by this point and was constantly talking with Cisco about upgrades to her arm.

"I know, just let me have this one thing before you start regaining your independence." Barry said and Iris rolled her eyes at that.

"Yes, because I'll be so independent, needing you to carry me up and down the stairs every morning and every night and helping me get in and out of this chair." Iris said as Barry kneeled down in front of her.

"Hey, don't think like that. You won't be in this chair forever. Now that Star Labs is owned by Argo Enterprises, it's only a matter of time until they find some kind of tech to help you walk again." Barry told her.

"And how do you feel about dating a girl who's part robot?" Iris asked, since between her arm and whatever technology they end up using to fix her legs, she might as well end up being more machine than human.

"Well, you know that is one of my biggest fantasies." Barry said with a smirk, causing Iris to smack him with her normal arm, though she was smiling.

"I'm serious." Iris said and Barry smiled.

"Iris, there's nothing about you that could change how I feel about you. Besides, when you wear sleeves, you can hardly even notice your arm, since this one even feels real." Barry said as he ran his hand down her bionic arm and the synthetic skin actually felt like real skin and Iris actually shuddered.

"I still forget sometimes that Carla really tricked this arm out for me so that I could actually regain my sense of touch with it. Remind me to thank her again." Iris said and Barry smiled.

"I will. But come on, let's get you home." Barry said, since he knew that Iris would need the pick me up and he also knew that she was just playing along with the idea that she didn't know they were throwing her a welcome home party, since it had been a tradition ever since they were kids that every year he'd try to throw Iris a surprise party for her birthday, but every year, she figured out what he had planned. She always knew there'd be a party, but the surprise was supposed to be how they celebrated. One of the downsides of her aspiring to be a reporter, a dream she planned on following that she'd followed in the family tradition and served in the military. A choice she hoped her little brother Wally would not make, since she now understood why her father was so against her enlisting, but now it was done and over with.

And sure enough, when Barry wheeled her into the apartment, the lights flipped on to reveal a banner that read welcome home Iris on it while her parents, Wally, Henry, Carla, Caitlin, Cisco and Gabriella all jumped up and yelled surprise.

"You guys did not have to do this." Iris said.

"Of course we did sis, but I hope you understand if I will not be following in your footsteps joining the military after high school." Wally said to his big sister with a smile as he hugged her.

"Nice to know at least one of my kids has common sense." Joe said, relieved that he wouldn't have to worry about his son the way he had about his daughter.

"Thanks for that dad, but I can't deny you're wrong about that." Iris said.

"Yeah, I don't have the patience to be stuck in a chair. You know me, it's all go, go, go." Wally said a little tactlessly, only to have Barry smack him upside the head.

"It's okay Barry. I'm glad that at least one of you isn't walking around pins and needles around me, which is not appreciated. Especially since I'm going to have to deal with enough of that with my shrink." Iris said, since she knew that she wasn't only damaged physically. Her injuries were also physical and emotional. But now was not the time to think about that.

"Sorry, force of habit. I'll try to avoid babying you, since I know you hate that." Barry said.

"Thank you. Now, this is a party right. So, let's get things started." Iris said and everyone grinned at that.

The party was in full swing and Iris couldn't help but smile as she watched Gabriella talk to Caitlin and not so subtly flirt with her, since she knew which way Gabriella swung and she'd had her suspicious about Caitlin for years and she thought that they'd make a good couple if they got together and she hoped for nothing but the best for them both.

However, she lost focus when she suddenly felt the temperature drop significantly.

"Uh Barry, did you crank the AC?" Iris asked her boyfriend.

"No." Barry said, right as the windows froze and shattered and to both Caitlin and Carla's shock, though for different reasons, Thomas Snow came into the apartment on some kind of ice slide.

"Dad?" Caitlin asked in shock at seeing her father alive.

"Hello Caity. It's been a long time. And I guess your mother never told you about me." Thomas said.

"Mom?" Caitlin asked her mother.

"Caitlin, I promise I will explain everything, assuming we survive this encounter with Icicle as I believe he calls himself." Carla promised as Barry suddenly vanished, only to reappear a moment later, now dressed in his Flash suit, which still was not as cool as his dad's, but they'd figure that out later.

"No one likes a party crasher Icicle." Flash said.

"Wait, don't." Henry tried to stop his son, since Icicle's powers were the one thing that could actually hurt his son, but Flash didn't listen, only to get ice blasted across the room.

"Physics 101 kid. Speed and cold don't mix. And cold always wins." Icicle said as he prepared to blast Flash again, only to be halted by bullets being fired at him by both Joe and Gabriella, but the bullets froze and shattered the moment they touched him.

"Pathetic." Icicle said as he jumped off his slide and walked straight up to Gabriella, grabbing and freezing her gun, forcing her to drop it before she gripped his neck.

"Now that was just rude." Icicle said as Gabby tried to punch him, but he began to freeze her, only to be stopped by being blasted back by another ice blast as all eyes turned to see Caitlin, her eyes now glowing silver, her lips blue and her hair white and icy mist spewing from her hands.

"Well, this is a surprise. And it does change things. And it allows you all time to live." Icicle said as he released a blast of icy mist that knocked them all back, which he used to cover his exit.
