Chapter 11

"So, is it ironic that my first day back at work for CCPD is doing CSI work at my stepmom's company?" Barry asked Joe as they stood in one of the labs of Tannhauser Industries to investigate a robbery that had happened thankfully while Carla was gone, since she was preparing for Iris's surgery, which would take place in a few days.

"I don't know, but what I do know is that the reason Singh assigned you to this case instead of Julian or Patty is because Carla's a lot more likely to divulge her secrets to you than them, not to mention, this is more up your alley." Joe said and Barry nodded.

"Fair enough. I mean Carla doesn't really keep informed on all of Tannhauser's projects, but I probably know more than anyone else in CCPD." Barry said.

"Anyways, Carla described the item that was stolen as a cryo atomizer." Joe said, referring to the wall mounting that had clearly had something removed from it.

"Yeah, it's what was keeping everything in this room cold by keeping the temperature below zero." Barry said, referring to all the puddles of water on the floor.

"Which explains the water." Joe said and Barry nodded as Carla came in.

"Detective West, Barry." Carla said to her stepson.

"Carla, do you have any idea on who might be behind this theft?" Joe asked Carla.

"No clue. All the security cameras have been wiped clean from the time of the theft and this was a project I shelved years ago. The cryo atomizer was designed to disperse cold air particles to trigger rainfall to help combat wildfires caused by droughts. The project was shelved because it wasn't considered cost effective." Carla said.

"Yeah, not a whole lot of people see the money in saving the planet." Barry said.

"Anyways, after that, I decided that instead of just locking the atomizer up to collect dust, I'd still give it some use by using it to keep our experiments in cold storage. I don't know who would steal it or why, but it was clearly done by a professional." Carla said.

"She's right about that. I haven't found any evidence. No fingerprints or anything else. Do you mind if I take a look at your files?" Barry asked.

"Well, this was clearly a well executed heist, which means a lot of planning went into it." Joe said.

"We should check security footage from around the building, see if any members of your security team were talking to anyone they shouldn't have been, see if there's any evidence left behind of your servers being hacked. See if we can find some kind of trail that can lead us back to whoever did this." Barry said.

"We'll comply with your investigation as long as you don't request any proprietary information, since while I might give that information to you Barry, I don't feel comfortable giving it to the CCPD." Carla said.

"We appreciate your cooperation." Joe said.

Meanwhile, in a warehouse on the other side of the city, the thief who'd stolen the cryo-atomizer was currently carrying it up to the person who'd hired him to steal it in the first place.

"Okay, I've got what you hired me to get. Between this and also breaking you out of that prison, it's time I get paid or else the cops find out where you're hiding and I smash this thing into the ground." Leonard Snart said to his client with his usual snark.

"You've more than earned your reward, which is why in addition to what I initially promised you, you'll find an extra 20 million wired into your account." his client, Dr. Thomas Snow, or as he was known now, Icicle, said with a smirk and Snart grinned.

"Then I guess it was worth all the time and resources I spent tracking down the location of Belle Reve, then figuring out how to break you out of it and then stealing this gadget, whatever it is. But now I'd like what you actually promised me, since while the money is appreciated, you promised me a game changer." Snart reminded him.

"And I always keep my promises." Icicle said as he slid a case over to Snart, who opened it to reveal a sleek techy gun and goggles.

"I'd recommend always wearing those goggles when you use that gun, since they help with the glare. That gun will slow down any object as soon as you hit it. I guarantee. I appreciate your patience, since it took me a while to acquire the parts I needed to build it, but well worth it." Icicle said.

"I agree. This partnership has definitely been mutually beneficial." Snart said as he took the gun.

"Does that mean that you're open to additional work with me in the future should I have further need of your services?" Icicle asked.

"If you continue paying this well, then yes. But for now, I'm gonna get out of this city before the cops realize I'm the one who stole that gadget, whatever it is." Snart said as he placed the atomizer on a table before taking his leave.

"Fine with Mr. Snart. Thanks to you, I have everything I need now." Icicle said as he picked up the atomizer with one hand and looked at a photo with the other. It was a photo of his daughter, Caitlin Snow, the last time he'd seen her when she was just a kid.

"Soon we'll be together again, Caity. And we'll never be separated again." Icicle promised as he got to work.
