Chapter 3. Paper Notes
I stared at the yellow sheet of paper before me. My head hurt trying to figure out why it was there. I could tell that there was some writing on it but I don't want to trust it. I sniffed as I analysed it. It was wrinkled like it was stuffed in a pocket or something like that and the writing was ever so neat.
I slowly picked the paper in my hand and looked at it. My eyes weren't focused on the words but on a scent on who it might belong to. It wasn't a letter as it just appeared there. It had been thrown from my window onto the bed like a feather.
No scent.
'You, Lucy, should be happy since he is back, smile more! Smiling make everyone look cuter and better, try it! The boy would love it!'
I read the paper again. No signature or name at the bottom to say the writer or anything. No address, it was just like a note Gray and Gajeel would be passing through class. My arms felt cold and numb from reading it. The person had spoken to me like I know them and that we trust each other.
Trust each other enough not to give me a name.
I carefully put the paper in my top drawer and thought for a while before looking out the window. Whoever had thrown the paper was long gone by now but there was no one outside that matched this handwriting. My lips pressed together as I brought myself away from the sight of the outside world.
But what did this person know of Natsu and me? How did the person know advice that I couldn't think of? How did this voice know Natsu more than me?
Another note on my stand.
I walked towards the paper warily. I hadn't heard anyone come into the room or the paper being placed there. This time round, the paper was fresh. It was still yellow but with a better display.
'Call me Lisanna and trust me, we both know that Natsu would love to see you smile, maybe even a little more?'
"This little creep..." I muttered as I put the paper in the top drawer of my stand with the other one. I wasn't wrong. No one was in this room but me. The person could hear me but I couldn't hear them. They could see me but I couldn't see them.
It made me feel awkward as hell.
"Lucy!" I heard Jellal yell before opening my door. My body was still near the drawer, my fingertips tracing the knob of the top drawer in my previous thoughts. I swiftly flicked my finger away from it and looked over to him.
"I have a surprise for you at school, you know?" I asked him. "What did you want?"
"One question at a time! Please! I wanted help on my maths homework but what's the surprise!" He asked me.
"Nope."
"That's not an answer, it's a word." He pointed out to me. We both sat down on my bed. I could hear his math homework wrinkling as he clenched his hands in excitement.
Poor homework.
"I can't tell you, it won't be a surprise then! I just wanted to tell you so it could haunt your thoughts for the next few days!" I laughed at him. I carefully took the paper away from his hands, making sure not to rip it from the pressure.
"That is sadistic. Read the homework, I'm going to get my tomato juice..." He said. Yep, the idiot actually uses that excuse at home. He walked out of the room and I waited for his footsteps to fade away before looking down at his homework.
On my nightstand again was another sheet of paper.
'Tomato juice? Seriously? Make sure not to let the little vampire drink too much, Lucky Lucy.'
This time, I didn't even need to pick the paper up to read it. The handwriting had suddenly become bigger and desperate to write this message. I tilted my head in thought and pushed down on my bottom lip with my upper one lightly. Jellal's heavy footsteps filled the room so I quickly put the paper in my drawer.
"Let's get ready to math!" He said as he took a sip from his cup. The liquid left some orange leftovers on the cup's inside. I watched as it slowly seeped back into the pool of blood beneath it. It might have looked creepy to watch and smell but it made him happy and energised.
"Don't drink so much, you'll get mentally sick and we need some for Gajeel, we can't waste it all!" I said as I took the glass away from him. "Why couldn't you get a mug or something? Not a glass. I can see the blood, you know?" I asked him as I put it on my stand.
"That's the point."
"Shut it, read the first question out loud to me, I'm going to put Got7 on for you," I said. I went through my playlist on my phone, hearing his voice.
"What shall I do with you?" A voice came at my ear. It felt like an attack at how sudden it was and that it wasn't Jellal. But, it was soft and angelic. Their tone was kind, like a mother talking to her child.
I don't think I was meant to hear that.
