I saved the worst criminal of Werewolf Clichés for the very end. If one single person can mess up an entire story, it's the fucking Moon Goddess. She's committed so many crimes that should be classified as worse than war crimes. Well maybe not that far, but you get my point.

1.) One Job

Does anyone else notice that in all of these werewolf stories where this "Goddess" is mentioned, she only has one job. The only time she's ever mentioned is when she blesses *eye roll* people with mates. She does absolutely nothing else.

If she does, it isn't mentioned.

I mean if you're the one and only goddess of an entire species, you could use your powers to fix some of the problems that they're facing. Rogues are a supposed problem to a lot of packs, but you do nothing to change the situation. Omegas are abused by their pack for whatever reason, but you stay silent besides maybe pairing them up with their abuser.

Why are people "worshiping" you when the one thing you do can just be explained away by chance?

2.) Bad Pairings

The one job that this lazy sack of garbage does, she doesn't do well. The amount of stories out there where she pairs up the main character with the person who's abused them their entire life. What's worse is that the person doesn't change in the slightest. They just continue their abuse on their now mate.

If the main character ends things, the moon goddess appears before them. She has the audacity to admit to being their mother.

The main character's own MOTHER paired them up with an abuser of all people.

Some stories take it even further. She guilts the main character into going back for further abuse at the hands of their mate. She doesn't make any promises that they'll change, let alone stop. What gets me is when she says something along the lines of, "He needs you MC. I put you with him for a reason. You need to save him."

NO. It's not someone's responsibility to put up with abuse to change the abuser, or anyone for that matter.

Let me make this clear. Get out of your toxic relationships, no matter who it is. It's not worth the pain and suffering.

3.) Surprise ... I'm Your Mother

I mentioned this on the last point. If anything happens to the MC, she brings them into this dream sequence to meet her (I mean she has to entertain herself somehow since she doesn't do anything. She surprises the main character by admitting she somehow is their mother.

How the fuck does that even work? She's a goddess. How the hell did she manage to 1. make the kid, and 2. give birth to specifically a werewolf?

Maybe I shouldn't question it too much. Greek Mythology is by far worse about this type of thing.

4.) No Clear Reason WHY She's the Goddess

Besides the one job she's really bad at, there's no real reason given why all werewolves worship this bitch. Do you realize how hard it is for a group of people to agree on one religion let alone how they worship said god?

There are so many subsects of Christianity alone. Hell there's three different religions all coming from the new testament or at the very least the same God: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. 

If one woman is able to unite people like no other god or goddess before her, you would think there would be some lore reason written into the story.

I've rarely read any stories that even mention how she came about. Her origin seems pretty important. 

5.) No One Mentions Her Outside of Mates

Has anyone else noticed that the supposed goddess of each and every werewolf is barely mentioned by the things that are supposed to worship her? I know her entire existence in most stories is just a plot device, but that plot device could be utilized so much better. It could go in so many different directions that can impact the characters on so many different levels. 

Everyone just casually mentions that she gives them a mate, but they don't show any appreciation towards that. They even take her name in vain (in some circumstances) which is frowned upon in most religions at the VERY LEAST. 

It would be so cool to see author's play the Moon Goddess up a bit. Have characters make small prayers to her, have altars set up in their rooms, or maybe a small statue in a public place in the pack. I would pay so much to see a pack have either a room or even an entire building dedicated as some type of church (or whatever you want to call the building since different religious buildings are called different things). 

There's so much to be done, but most author's decide to go with the bare minimum.
