If there's one consistent throughout every werewolf story that lives on Wattpad, it's mates. Whether they're fated soulmates that reject each other for whatever reason (later chapter) or lovebirds that magically fix each other's problems, mates are included in some way shape or form.

1.) Unfit Matches

The amount of stories that put two people together that shouldn't be in the same room, let alone kissing, is astounding. We have one that is a possessive, overly jealous, borderline sociopath that's with the embodiment of either kindness or trauma. In most cases both. Something's not adding up. Not only are their personalities total opposites, they usually don't share any similar interests, hobbies, or tastes in anything. 

If the only thing in common that you guys can find is that you're both a werewolf, you might not want to be together. There's nothing for you to talk about. I get it if you guys don't have similar personalities, but you gotta have something that makes you guys like each other than just pure physical attraction. 

2.) You're perfect for me, but I can't be with you for some reason ...

There's nothing more infuriating than reading one character reject another for some arbitrary reason. Most of these stories involve teenage main characters. The reason for not wanting the main character is that they can't risk their precious little reputation for being with a "lower raking" pack member or some bs like that.

Like dude, you're the soon to be Alpha or some shit, who cares who your mate is. This person is your soul mate (in most stories), but your ego is too fragile to love someone who happens to be a low rank that YOU CAN CHANGE. Grow some brain cells and some balls. I know it's hard for you, given that you only have the one braincell, but you can do it. 

3.) Love Makes Everything Go Away 

I've mentioned this before in a previous chapter, but I wanna add it again since it always makes me stop reading a story. The main character suffers mass amounts of trauma at the hands of the author. The solution? 

Another character whom they've never met is going to give them all of the love that they've never received before. Then they're magically fixed!

No.

You need therapy before any of that happens.

If you add this to your story YOU need therapy. Straight to jail if you make the entire exposition of your story the main character being abused only for the love interest to swoop in and save them. 

The only exception for this in my books is One Omega by Shifting2wolf (sorry if you don't wanna be tagged in this. If you want me to take it out I will fully understand and I will take it out. P.S. I love this story, so that's why I'm using it as an example). 

One Omega has abuse and such as the exposition, but the love interest doesn't fix the main character by love alone. There's development to his healing. 

4.) Lust at First Sight

We all know this one. Whenever the lovely couple meets, you get descriptions like:

Oh! My! GOD! He's 9 feet tall with the face of a Greek god. Don't even get me started on his 12 pack abs or his arms that are ripping his shirt from his bulging muscles. The minute my eyes laid upon him, I knew he held my heart in his hands. I never knew love this deep before.

No Sarah, you just want to get in his pants.

(don't question why I put the name Sarah. It was the first one that came to mind. Sorry to all the Sarahs reading this)

I'm not gonna even attempt to write it from the guy's pov. I'm not touching that with a 10 foot pole. 

5.) Markings

Ah yes, the main way that people show that someone is in a relationship with someone else in the werewolf world. You definitely can't do this in ANY other way. Weddings don't exist! Marks are obviously gonna vary from story to story, but the main idea is typically the same.

And it never made any sense to me. 

In most scenarios, each person bites each other while ... let's just say having fun. It's some type of permanent hickey afterwards from my understanding. I'm sorry, WHAT? You're just chilling with your partner's teeth marks on you, almost always on your neck. Then you just have to casually walk by your family the next day like nothing happened. 

Sorry, I don't think I would be able to face my family for a while after something like that. Not without my face doing a tomato impression. 

6.) I can't become the Alpha until I find my Luna

This doesn't happen nearly as often as the previous cliches, but it does happen enough for it to earn a spot here. 

This is also something that I never truly grasped. How does having your soul mate affect your leadership skills in any sort of fashion? The only thing I could possibly see is that they have some calming effect on you (if the story has that of course), but you should be a calm, level-headed person anyways to be the leader of your pack. It also seems like some arbitrary rule preventing you from becoming the Alpha if the previous one is ready to retire. 

Then again, I don't understand a lot of societal rules, so that could just be me.
