Chapter 4: The Call

The rest of my day at school was kind of... Normal?

I know, right?

Besides having a splitting headache, my day wasn't so bad. The only noticeable difference was the fact that my entire attitude changed that day. I was... Smiling. Now, that might now seem like a very big deal, but for me it was like the end of the world. I passed by a mirror and realized I was smiling, and ended up spending about 5 minutes trying to get rid of it so people didn't think something was wrong with me.

Besides that, people have actually been sitting next to me at lunch. Again, not very important unless you're me. People always tend to avoid me like the plague in school, but ever since recently, people have actually been giving me a chance. I actually enjoy being in school now, which is weird.

I kept seeing Rachel in the halls, too. I hadn't really payed attention to who was in the hallways, I was just focused on getting to my next class without getting beaten up. But now... Now I actually look around.

I honestly feel like an entirely new person.

My family has even started to notice my new mood. My mom can't seem to understand why I'm grinning like a dummy every morning. And don't even get me started with my brother. He won't leave me alone. He just pokes and prods me and asks me dumb questions like "What's her name, little bro?" or "When do I get to meet the mystery lady?"

The one thing I haven't done yet... Is actually try to call Rachel.

I'd like to say it just slipped my mind, but honestly I've tried several times and just hesitated like how I usually do. I guess it's just the way I am.

"Alright, this time for sure." I say to myself, getting psyched up. I pick up my phone and dial the number that I've probably tried dialing a dozen times at this point.

And that's when I finally hit the green "Call" button without hesitation.
