Monica's POV
Sitting in my office, swiveling my chair from side to side while sipping a pina colada, I smiled.
I heard a distant thud from the floor below me. 5 must have turned again, I thought, chuckling. The best part about having new kidnapples around was the first day. Every single time, they freak out. It's a wonderful thing to watch.
Kidnapples always come in disoriented and angry, and it's up to my idiot scientists and I to give them a freak show they'll never forget. Once they're completely disoriented, you throw them in a cell with someone who's been here a while and watch. Popcorn optional.
Setting my glass down on the desk, I turned on my laptop and logged into the website that the security cameras were linked to. I scrolled through the feeds, paying little attention to the older inmates. 1a and 1b, the twins, were playing cards on the floor of their cell. 2 and 6 were asleep, and 3 sat in his cell alone, apparently trying to kill himself again. What a waste of time. I kept scrolling.
"Finally, there it is." I muttered aloud. The feed showed the cell from a hidden camera in the corner of the room, where everything could be seen. Taking a sip of my pina colada, I leaned over to get a better look at the feed. In the middle of the floor was a walrus - just as I suspected, Kassidy had turned. Jasper was standing 4 feet away, looking mildly intrigued by the body of the unconscious Vonda next to the walrus. I took another sip, watching attentively in case she woke up.
For a couple of minutes she lay still, much to my disappointment. Suddenly, she began to glow. I was halfway through chugging my pina colada when I caught her skin radiating a dull purple light out of the corner of my eye. In that moment I choked, coughing and spraying the colada all over my laptop.
The screen flickered a bit before going completely black. "Idiot scientists can't even make a colada-proof laptop" I muttered with distaste before picking it up and throwing it against the wall of my office. It fell to the ground, it's insides spilling out and its screen shattered. "Pathetic" I scowled again, before hitting a button under my desk. Immediately, 3 idiot scientists came in through the open door and cleaned up the spilled drink and broken laptop without question. I opened the desk drawer and pulled out another state-of-the-art laptop, one of about 50 I kept as backup. I logged back into the camera feed just as a fourth scientist brought me a new pina colada.
"Thanks, you good for nothing lab rats. Now get out, and close the door behind you" I almost screamed. I was on my period, what can I say?
I chugged the entire glass before checking the cameras this time (so that I wouldn't waste any more pina coladas, of course). I set the empty glass down and went back to the laptop, curious as to what the fresh meat was up to now.

Jaspers POV
"Oh shit..." I whispered, when the new girl fell over with a loud thud. I gawked at her from where I sat on the lower bunk bed, unsure of what to do. I was the newest kidnapple after her, and I wasn't used to dealing with this sort of thing. I sat there, still staring, for a minute or two. Then I decided to stand up and stare. The walrus looked up at me, cocked its head, then went back to eating its crab.
My momentary panic disappeared when I stood up, and I resumed my usual bored and uninterested mood. I walked around the girl - Varla? Vanika? I couldn't remember her name. Suddenly I noticed something... off about her. It almost seemed like her skin was glowing.
I got closer, trying to distinguish if it was just a trick of the light. The light began to intensify, going from a dull, indistinguishable halo to a bright purple, like lasers were on under her skin. Despite my astonishment, I had to shield my eyes from its ever-growing intensity.
In a flash, the light was gone and the girl began to stir. The walrus leaned over her body, its curiosity peaked at the sight of a human disco. I stood 2 feet behind the girl's limp head, growing even more unsure of how to react. Did she know she could do that? Or was this her first time? Should I stay hidden under my mask of disregard or tell her the truth?
I didn't have much time to think it over, because in that moment, her eyes fluttered open.

Monica's POV
"Oh. My. Pickle." I exclaimed slowly. "She glows?? Her power is glowing? I spent $50 on paying that ugly guy to kidnap her so that she can GLOW?" I screamed, picking up the empty pina colada glass and throwing it at the wall where I'd thrown my laptop mere minutes ago. Then I picked up the new, functioning laptop and threw it against the wall too.
Without me even needing to press the button, 2 scientists opened the door and proceeded to clean up the mess again while I kept screaming.
"WHAT KIND OF USELESS POWER IS A HUMAN NIGHTLIGHT??" I screeched, storming out of my office and slamming the door on one of the scientists' foot behind me.
