Jonathan's POV
"Jonathan, I really think my powers are just... glowing. I don't know what she wants from me. I don't know how to control it or how to figure out what else I can supposedly do... but I think she'll really hurt us if I can't." Vonda rambled in the darkness, her troubled voice echoing off the walls. I looked up in her direction, searching for a response.
At first I couldn't see her, but I heard her scooting back towards the wall. When she came in contact with it, I swear I saw the skin that was pressed up against the stone begin to glow. I could make out her figure now, from the faint light of her outline. I gawked in silence, unsure of what to say or if I should say anything. She didn't seem to notice it, but instead lowered her head as if in defeat.
The glow intensified and I could make out her face. She appeared to be deep in thought, searching for something. I felt like I couldn't take my eyes off of her, both out of caution that something might happen, a clue to her powers, and out of astonishment. Just pure astonishment. Here she was, umpteen floors underground, trapped in a cell with me... and she made my legs go numb with unknown and unwarranted emotions I've never felt before. I was overwhelmed with care for her, and although I'd only known her for an hour or so, I felt like I couldn't live without her.
Slowly I was drawn out of my daze. Something seemed.. off. I looked intently at Vonda for a full minute before I saw it. Her whole body had started to glow purple, softly at first, almost barely noticeable. Slowly it grew brighter to match the previous intensity of her eyes' glow. The room was now bathed in violet light, the foreboding cement walls illuminated from every corner.
My jaw dropped as I realized her skin seemed to be melting. Her face began to droop, her fingers fused together... I had to look away. It was the most disturbing thing I'd ever seen in my life, and I've seen Jasper naked. I stared at the wall, unable to close my eyes but unable to look at her.
Is she ok? Oh Jesus the very second I touch a girl she melts. Holy shit...
The light flashed brighter, then died out. I jerked my head back, but she wasn't there. There was just a big blob of purple slime, gently oozing into a puddle. A dim light faintly pulsated in the center for a bit, and then it was gone.
"Vonda?!" I yelped out, jumping up and scrambling. It was dark again, and I couldn't see where the blob was, but I knew it was in front of me. It had to be, it couldn't move. I collapsed to my hands and knees and leaned close to where I thought the weird mass was. I must have been near, because it smelled like midnight walks and hookah smoke in the most amazing way.
Suddenly the smell was gone. I put my hand where the blob was, but I was met with dry cement. I looked everywhere, spreading out my arms and legs, crawling all over the room, but it was gone. Finally, giving up, I put my back against the furthest corner from the door and slid to the floor. I felt like I'd just lost the only friend I ever had. I put my hands in my face and sighed, accepting the dark, black depression that was crawling into my brain once again.
