Vonda's POV
The first thing I noticed about Adeline were her eyes, whose light shone brighter than any I'd seen before. They couldn't seem to settle on one color, but instead slowly and constantly shifted from one to the other. Blue, green, gray, hazel, dark green, then back to blue again. Her smile never broke, and her whole happy exterior made me grin uncontrollably every time I looked at her.
"I'm Vonda. Vonda Vikes." I started to reach across the table to shake her hand, but instead she got up and hugged me.
I hugged her back and she whispered in my ear "Thank god you're humorous, everyone here is a total dick."
I laughed and pulled away, sitting back down across the table from her.
"So I assume you already know Jasper and Kassidy," she stood up and began introducing me to the rest of the kids at the table.
"This is my twin brother, Adrien." She gestured to a boy sitting beside her, smirking coyly. He waved half-heartedly and then shoved an entire ear of corn into his mouth without breaking eye contact. I laughed awkwardly, unsure of what to say. Adeline rolled her eyes at him before catching my slightly panicked expression. "Ignore him", she laughed, smacking him upside the head.
"Hey! That hurt..." he groaned, then tried to shove an entire lobster into his mouth.
"Adrien... you're supposed to take off the shell" Adeline pointed out exasperatedly.
"You're supposed to take off the shell" he mimicked sarcastically, pulling the lobster's head out of his mouth.
"Ok then... uh, to your right is Sophie. Next to her is Amari, and across from them is Jonathan. We're still a small crowd but Herle's bringing in more within these next few months. So... yea!" Her bubbly attitude kept my smile from faltering even for a second. She was so happy for a hostage.
Adeline sat down with a little flourish and carefully picked up a pair of chopsticks, making the process of eating sushi seem like ballet. I looked around at the three I'd been introduced to, waving again, then turning back to my plate with my stomach growling. "Bitch," it seemed to say, "feed me already."

About half an hour later, Brad came by to our table and stood over me, glaring expectantly.
I glanced up, pickle in hand, and froze, unsure of what exactly he wanted me to do. "What's up, honey bun?" I asked sweetly.
"You're being relocated to a new cell, its time to go." He picked me up from the elbow, trying to be rough but failing. Evidently Herle had had enough of my weird-ass-ness. I got up compliantly and walked with Brad back to the cells, leaving the rest of the kidnapples. I threw Adeline a smile as I went, but what she returned was a look of concern that said "Oh boy, that girl ain't gonna survive."
Brad dragged me down to the cells again, only this time leading me to the last one on the furthest wall. This one had no window, only a reinforced door that was darker than the rest. He opened it and threw me in, slamming the door and leaving me in pitch-black darkness.
