Chapter 65: Has been absolute hell
Katie
"Margret, you really want me to sit with you?" I ask.
Margret smiles. "Of course."
I sit down and the guys run out onto the field.
My eyes automatically find Wyatt.
"How are you doing?" Margret asks.
I turn around to see her. "Good."
She gives me a look like she doesn't believe me. "Katie Honey, Wyatt told me everything."
I wonder how much he told her.
"Oh," I say quietly.
She pats my leg. "I know it's none of my business, but the four weeks yall were 'together'."
The air quotes she put around together meant he did tell her everything.
"I got my Wyatt back. Since his dad died he's been closed up. When he met you it seemed like he got his light back."
Margret smiles at me. "I wanted to say thank you. You brought light back into Wyatt's life."
I smile back. "He brought light into mine as well."
Margret smirks. "For what it's worth, it didn't look very fake to me."
I laugh and she smiles the same smile Wyatt has.
"You got this Wyatt!" Margret yells.
Margret doesn't say anything else about me and Wyatt for the rest of the game.
When half time comes I film Izzy's dance to Holding Out for a Hero covered by Adam Lambert.
There is one minute left on the clock and we are down by one touchdown.
Wyatt has been playing horribly the entire time. I never stood up because I was scared if he saw me in his jersey it would throw him off his game.
At this point, I don't think he can get any worse.
I stand up with Margret and we both cheer.
Wyatt comes out of their huddle and his eyes find mine.
Something flashes across his face, but before I can tell what he looks away.
The ball is snapped to him and Ryan runs down the field.
Wyatt doesn't have enough time to wait for Ryan, so he makes a run for it. He dives over a guy from the other team and makes the touchdown.
The crowd goes wild and the team rushes out onto the field.
I lose sight of the field because everyone gets up to leave. There are so many people I lose Margret as well.
Something about rain clouds scares the crap out of people. You would have thought it was a tornado warning.
Drops of rain hit my head, I look up, and the sky's black.
Finally, I make it to the school to wait for Tyler and Izzy.
At this point, the rain has picked up to a heavy mist.
"Kat!" Tyler yells.
I see him and Izzy running huddled under a sweatshirt Tyler is holding in the air.
"Have you seen Wyatt?" I yell.
"Yeah, he was going to his car," Izzy yells over the rain.
"Why?" Tyler yells.
I grin. "I'm getting my man back."
Izzy smiles so big it has to hurt. "Finally."
I take off running.
When I make it to the school's parking lot the rain is coming down in sheets.
I see Wyatt shutting his trunk while sporting a clear raincoat. "Wyatt!"
He turns around. "You're wearing my jersey."
I push wet hair off my forehead. "I promised a friend I would wear it no matter what."
Wyatt walks closer. "We made a lot of promises to each other."
I move closer to him. At this point, we're about six feet apart.
"Yeah, we did. Do you remember that contract we made?" I say.
Wyatt tries to hide his smile. "Yeah, I do."
I frown slightly. "Well, I broke one of the rules."
Wyatt's face turns serious. "Which one?"
"The last one."
Wyatt closes the distance between us and takes my face in his hands.
His lips crash onto mine.
Fireworks explode in my stomach.
Before, he was careful and hesitant. Now he kisses me like it's the last time he will ever get to.
I wrap my arms around the back of his neck to pull him closer. Wyatt deepens the kiss and moves his hands through my wet hair, down my arms to rest on my waist.
A shiver runs down my back and I feel Wyatt smile against my lips.
I used to make fun of movies with dramatic kisses in the rain.
I won't ever again.
Something about kissing Wyatt in the rain is different from other times.
Something about the cold from the rain and the little warmth from our bodies intensified the moment.
I should have never pushed him away.
Wyatt pulls away from me and stares into my eyes with such intensity that my heart flutters.
His hood had fallen off during the kiss and the rain has flattened his curls to his head.
I watch a drop of rain roll down his nose and fall onto his bottom lip.
"Katie, there's something I need to tell you," Wyatt says under his breath.
I take a breath and Wyatt shakes his head just the slightest. "No Katie, I need to explain."
"I am so sorry, I should have never lied to you. I never wanted Sophie, she spiked my drink, and as soon as kissed me I pushed her away."
Wyatt pushes hair off my forehead. The gesture causes butterflies to erupt in my stomach.
"I never should have let you go inside that night without telling you my feelings," Wyatt says, his breath brushing my forehead.
"What are these feelings?" I whisper.
Wyatt's eyes sparkle. "I'm head over heels in love with you, Katie Grace Fleming. This week without you has been absolute hell."
I smile.
Wyatt
Katie smiles.
I lean down to kiss her, but she stops me with a finger to my lips.
"It's my turn to confess," Katie says looking down.
I place my finger under her chin to tilt her face back up so I can see her beautiful eyes.
God I missed her.
"Wyatt, I'm sorry too," I shake my head to stop her, but she continues away.
"I should have let you explain that night. I believed Stacy over you."
Katie takes a deep breath. "I let one little lie destroy the trust I had built with you. I pushed you away because I was scared."
"What were you scared of?" I ask softly.
I watch a raindrop run down the line of her nose and drop onto her chin.
"I was scared of my feelings for you. Wyatt I'm crazy about you, I tried to get over you but I couldn't. My heart wants you; I want you."
"No matter how hard I tried to shut you out you push right back into my life. When I'm with you I feel complete. I feel at home.
Katie takes a deep breath. "I love you."
My heart bursts and it takes every ounce of self-control not to kiss her.
Instead, I let go of her waist and move away from her slightly.
"What are you doing?" Katie asks with her voice shaking.
I wasn't going to let anything go unsaid. That's what happened last time I kissed her and I wasn't making the same mistake twice.
I get down on one knee and take her hands. "Katie Fleming, I love you with all my heart. I want you to be my girlfriend, for real this time no more pretending."
Katie smiles. "And why do you want to be my boyfriend?"
"So I can kiss you whenever I want."
Katie laughs. "Wyatt Muriel Kent, I would love to be your girlfriend."
I stand up and pull Katie against my chest.
She tilts her head up and I press my lips against hers.
I guess good things do come to those who wait.
Finally!!!
Y'all have no idea how long I've been waiting to write this chapter!
Like literally, the amount of times I wrote and rewrote this chapter over the past few months just because I was bored is kind of concerning.
What are y'all's thoughts?
Sadly there is only one chapter left plus an epilogue.
