As weeks go by, Richard is awakened in the middle of the night by Denver's call who promises of helping him in more than one way. Denver apologizes for the delay he has caused but, in the meantime, he has managed to make some head-way of the enigma plaguing Richard. He reveals that he had managed to contact a person on the web known only by the person's username Curious CAT. He had previously once encountered the person and their virtual encounter has left him quite uncomfortable even to this very day. Richard perplexed by this information presses Denver to divulge more when he reveals that he had come across the person in an online chatroom a few years back where they were simply discussing the gruesome history of Nam. The person claimed that he had access to sensitive information regarding Nam and the various war crimes the US government was responsible for decades back in Nam. Denver bemused and curious regarding the authenticity, requested for proof when the person had revealed countless pages of redacted information, pictures that he had access to from the archives of US DOD as proof of his mettle. Denver was left terrified to witness such classified information and had quickly disconnected from the conversation. Richard, curiously asks how does this helps his cause and why, Denver reveals that the person had left his calling card through the web by leaving the same strange symbol etched on Samuel's journal. Both Richard and Denver find a way to contact Curious CAT once again where the person discloses the details found in the journal. The anonymous person gives only one information that C.M.C stands for Colonel Morgan Craig.

Richard and Denver start to dig up on the whereabouts of Captain Morgan Craig but their advances are met with dead ends, hung up calls, verbal threats or cold leads as if this man was a ghost, his existence etched solely in the pages of his father's journal entry. Defeated on all fronts, Richard requests Bollinger to mount a last-ditch effort for locating his father based on the new evidences that has come to light. Bollinger refuses and Richard takes upon himself to complete the mission. Richard, joined by Professor Denver, hires a cartographer, a survival expert and in exchange for the services rendered and the cost of bearing the entire expedition he puts up his house on mortgage and sends off his mother to the house of his friend, Paul Parker. Richard asks Paul to look after his mother due to her debilitating health while he goes on the expedition. He asks Paul to keep in touch by using a satellite phone and keep him updated about his mother's prognosis.
