Chapter 17
Drake slashed his sword to the dirt and started charging at me. I side stepped him easily.
"Drake," I whispered. Drake slowly turned around to look at me. The arena was perfectly silent as everyone watched to find out what me and Drake's next move was going to be. "Whatever you do, do not surrender. There is a way for both of us to get out of this alive."
"No there is not," Drake whispered back as his hand shook, gripping his sword. But he still asked, "How?"
"We have to fight as if this was training okay... I'll handle the rest. But you have to trust me," I whispered stepping toward him. I planted my foot down. "Sorry in advance."
Drake nodded slowly and planted his foot on the ground. "Sorry in advance," He whispered back. I nodded. We both stared at each other for a second trying to see who was going to make the first move. I then slashed my sword toward him. He blocked my sword with his just as I ran behind him and tried slashing for his back. Drake stepped forward dodging my sword, knowing what I was trying to do. Drake then turned around and slid his foot in the dirt, tripping me, making me fall to the ground. He then tried stabbing my leg. I quickly rolled in the dirt away from his sword. Panting, I quickly got up and ran toward one of the arena walls. I stood in front of the wall waiting for Drake to come toward me.
This has to work.
This will work.
I gestured for Drake to come over to the wall and nodded at him. He understood and started walking over toward me. I started laughing. Drake looked outrageously confused.
"Why are you laughing?" Drake whispered yelled.
"I just feel bad... you've been through a lot of injuries today... but this is life or death, right?" I asked between laughs. I was laughing mainly because I was nervous... and also because, yes, I really did feel bad about how I have to knock Drake unconscious.
"I'm sorry," I whispered. Drake shrugged.
"At least I get a warning this time," Drake said. I tried so hard not to laugh because it wasn't funny... but it kind of was.
I then swung my sword at Drake acting as if I was fighting him. He then did the same.
"Drake, I need you to smack my head with the handle of your sword," I whispered just as I put my hand at the back of Drake's head and stood in front of the wall. Drake then had the handle of his sword inches away from my head.
"On my count. Three... two... Oh, this is gonna hurt... one," I said. Just then I slammed Drake's head into the wall just as he smacked me with the handle of his sword, knocking us both unconscious.

I slowly opened my eyes to find myself in a tent. I had a major headache. I touched my forehead and it immediately started throbbing. I probably have a bruise. I looked around the tent to find it... empty?
I then stood up and walked out of the tent to find Drake sitting on the ground in front of it. "Drake?"
Drake had a bandage around his head. He immediately turned his head and looked up at me. "You're awake! Came to congratulate the winner, I see," He said while smirking.
"What..." Then it all clicked into place.
Drake woke up first.
He won.
I punched him in the shoulder.
"Ow," He said.
"You won? So unfair," I said as I crossed my arms. I then realized I punched him in his more injured, burned arm. "Sorry," I said. Drake shrugged and then started laughing as I sat down next to him. "But seriously, how did you wake up before me?"
"You were really tired," Drake said as put an arm around my shoulder.
"Yeah right—"
"Cara! Drake!" Me and Drake heard a voice yell. It was Oara. She was running toward us. "I was so worried y'all were gonna be the next Romeo and Juliet, but you're both alive, so I'm not worried anymore and yay!" Oara said as she hugged me and Drake.
Me and Drake exchanged looks and both held back a laugh. Oara pulled away and said, "You know what that means?"
"What?" I asked.
"The games, for us at least, are officially over."
