Chapter 13
Running. Don't stop. Don't look back. I breathed hard as I ran through the forest. I didn't cry like I usually would. I didn't smile either. I felt new... but broken. I felt like a person with a blank faced mask... No, I felt like no one. I felt unreal.
I killed someone.
I didn't even think about Drake. Just my footsteps. I ran to an open area in the middle of the woods and yanked my metal helmet off my head and threw it at a tree. It made a loud noise as it hit the tree and fell onto the grass. I then looked at my metal armor and ripped it off to where I was just in my basic shirt and leggings I wore underneath. I then pulled a knife out of my pocket and grabbed a fistful of my already short hair and cut it. It was now jagged and cut closely to my ears. I then laid down on the forest floor and grabbed a handful of dirt and smeared it on my face.
"I'm loosing my mind," I whispered. I then dragged my finger over my scar over my eye. I then started crying. I felt my now extremely short hair and pulled it over my face as much as I could. I then looked up at the sun. The next battle should be starting soon. I got up and wiped the tears and dirt off my face and put my armor back on. I then ran back out of the woods. I didn't put my helmet on, though. I liked it better that way. I looked and saw Oara, Lynx, Lyrra, Lux, and Phibi sitting down in a circle whispering. Lynx looked at me along with Oara. My team stood up and stared at me.
"Do you need something?" I asked as I they glared at me. Oara then walked up to me.
"What happened to you, Cara?" Oara asked as she looked at my hair, but I knew that wasn't what she was referring to.
"What? I fought her, didn't I—"
"Cara, you know why we are the outcast team?" Oara asked interrupting me. I tilted my head in question. "Because, we unlike them, don't kill. But we wouldn't be that way if it wasn't for you and Drake. You both taught the team that killing is wrong. After Drake left the team we all voted you to be leader. Because you lead us the right way... but look at you. You were the one that killed someone." I stared at her and laughed sarcastically. Oara looked at me wide eyed.
"Well... why don't we go to chapter one of Mira's story," I said loud so that my team and all the teams around me could hear what I was saying. Everyone looked at me. "Chapter one, she's a rat. Chapter two, look at my face, everyone. You see this scar? She would call it beautiful, because it was her creation. Chapter three, she pushed Drake into lava. Wanna talk about death, Oara, well here you go. Chapter four, she got jealous and then tortured Drake... almost to death if I didn't kill her. So... what about that do you not understand? Do you honestly think I enjoyed killing her? Well, guess what Oara... sweet, sweet Oara. I DIDN'T!" I screamed in her face. She stared at me and shook her head. I backed away and turned my head and saw the instructors looking at me. I looked at Instructor Martinalli. His face was blank as he looked at me. I then looked at Drake's tent. Drake is going to hate me now—
"She's alive!" We heard a yell from another tent.
"What?" Oara asked as she turned away from me and looked at the tent next to Drake's.
"Mira Cosbi is alive!" The instructor for team Scaleneburg shouted. Oara looked at me.
She then whispered, "I guess you didn't give it all you got... there is still good in you, Cara."
I felt a tear slip down my cheek as I ran toward the tent. Instructor Martinalli tried grabbing my arm, but I dodged it and ran into the tent I looked at Mira, who was sitting up on a cot drinking water. She looked at me and her eyes flashed with fear. I ran toward her and... gave her hug.
I can't believe I'm about to say this... to Mira of all people.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you," I whispered. Mira's hands shook as she held the bowl of water in one hand. She gently patted me on that back. I pulled away and looked at her. "You're alive—"
"Please don't tell me your gonna try killing me again because I am..." Mira said as she looked at me. I shook my head
"We're even now," I said as I extended my hand. She shook it.
"Good game, Cara... good game," Mira said. She then added quickly, "I still despise you in every way possible."
"Feelings mutual," I said as we both laughed. "Oh, but if you lay one hand or dagger or blade on Drake..." I said as I looked at her. She rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, yeah, you want your Drakey-poo to be alive, woopy-doo," Mira said sarcastically. I laughed. "And let me guess... the reason why you're so happy is because you don't have to tell Drakey-poo about killing someone... right?
"For one, only I can call him Drakey-poo. For two, yes. So thank you. Write those words down, because I guarantee, I won't say those words to you ever again," I said smirking. Mira laughed a quiet wicked laugh.
"I'll write that down... Thanks for not trying to kill me... well, right now," Mira said. I nodded as I started to walk out of the tent. But Mira spoke saying, "Remember, I still hate you."
"Welcome back Mira Cosbi... Welcome back," I said as I stepped out of the tent. "And welcome back Cara..." I whispered to myself. "I'm not a murderer."
