I Screwed Up ... Why, Just Why?
- Peril's POV -
"Wait," Clay cut me off. His slightly messy brown hair flew in the wind. "Let me get this straight. You once drowned your entire house trying to wash a single sock?"
"You heard me," I tossed my head with a laugh. "I was never, ever allowed near the laundry machine again."
"We all have our weaknesses," he answered simply. "According to my mom, I eat and sleep too much.
"Anyways," Clay changed the subject, "I heard we've got three transfer students from this rich school."
"Oh yeah!" I nodded. "What were their names again - Darkstalker, Fandom, and ... Creepsight?" I wasn't sure about the last two, but at least the first was right.
"Mm-hmm." He had stopped chomping on his hamburger, and was now looking at me intently.
My face instantly felt like it was burning. "What is it?"
"Peril," he began, "this is something I wanted to tell you ever since the first day of kindergarten, when we met. Whenever I see you, my heart beats like a drum, and I long to protect you for as long as I live. I admire your energetic charm, how you're always up to something, and especially those shining blue eyes of yours."
He concluded, "I'm definitely in love with you, Peril."
Now my cheeks were scorching, as Clay's sparkling brown eyes looked into mine. I looked around. No one was watching, so I did something the typical Peril would gag upon the thought of.
I slowly walked up, slightly lifted my head, and connected our lips together.
It was a simple movement, a quick one too, but when we kissed it felt like my insides were twisting, turning, about to explode and catch on fire out of giddy excitement. This was a feeling I never wanted to forget.
Clay had turned red, too. "So ... uh ..." he stuttered. "I will take that as a yes. I mean, as in yes, you'll be my girlfriend and we'll date and then maybe eat food toge-" He clamped his mouth shut, then started talking again. "Well, only if you want to, I mean."
"I'd love to!" I grinned. "But let's start walking to school now."
I wouldn't have to even make a mental to tell Tsunami about what happened.
Meanwhile in math class, Ms. - or Mrs, I forgot but I don't think anyone would marry her so I'll just say Ms. - Kestrel had finally had enough of the class' chatter. She finally stormed up to her table up at the front, and slammed her palm upon the wooden surface.
"That is mahogany!" I screamed dramatically.
Fatespeaker, catching my reference, joined in. "Yeah, Mrs. Kestrel. The odds really aren't in your favor today."
"You darn students," the teacher hissed, "One more word and you're getting detention, for fu-" She abruptly stopped.
"For FrUk's sake?" Fatespeaker asked happily. "I didn't know you watched Hetalia and shipped Arthur with Francis!"
"I hate that ship!" Another kid across the room shouted. "As Alfred x Arthur shippers say, U-SUK!"
"Ten points from your house, then!" I screamed back at him. "Hopefully it's not Gryffindor."
Meanwhile, a student sitting in the back started muttering about Mrs. Kestrel being a factionless pansycake, then stood up. "Teacher, how do you spell your full name? I'll write it down in my Death Note."
This led to a huge OOOOOOOOOHH! from the entire class.
Unfortunately, Mrs. Kestrel gave her detention after we applauded and threatened us all with the same thing unless we were quiet for the rest of the period. Well, there's always gotta be a fun ruiner who lives up to serve his or her purpose.
When the lunch bell finally rang, I ran to Clay's locker to tell him about what happened in math, only to see a note taped on the door.
Clay, I really like you. Can we pls go to McDonald's sometime this week for a date?
- Tsunami
I frowned. I had already told my best friend about our relationship, and she'd warmly congratulated me after skipping up and down the hallway ten times. Why would Tsunami do this?
I then noticed another note taped below the first one, from Clay.
I'm sorry, but I'm with Peril now.
That first sentence warmed my heart enough for me to go tackling that precious food lover, but I continued reading.
I'm sure you can find another girlfriend or boyfriend, though. I think Riptide really likes you. He talks about you all the time.
- Clay
He was sure right about the last part. Unsatisfied, I made my way to lunch, where I farted around on my phone until Tsunami came. I never mentioned the notes.
Right before last period, I noticed a third note taped to Clay's locker.
Please? I love you. I want us to date and then get married. Dump Peril and give it a try? ;-)
- Tsunami
And a fourth one:
Stop it, please. I'm taken, period. If I see a note like this again from you, I'll have to report you.
- Clay
That was the last straw. Snatching up all four notes, I texted Tsunami to meet me in the courtyard after school. She and I would be sharing a car, anyway, so there was no need to worry about getting home on time.
Raging, I stormed up to that blue haired savage, and shook the papers in her face. "Just what do you think you are doing?" I screamed. "Clay is mine, so stop poking your nose in his business."
"Huh?" Tsunami tilted her head to one side. Her green eyes glinted with confusion, but I knew from years of friendship that she was a huge drama queen. Well, maybe these years of friendship would end now.
"Peril," Tsunami continued. "I've no idea what you're talking about. What's up?"
"What's up?!" I screeched. "WHAT'S UP?!! You are asking him to date you even after you know he's with me, that's what's up."
"I never did that!" she retorted, starting to get defensive.
That's it. I had had enough. The words flew straight out of my mouth and out at who used to be my friend like an arrow shot at full speed.
"I hate you."
We then stood there for what seemed like an eon, staring each other, me with shock, and her with disbelief.
Tsunami's bottom lip started trembling and my heart lurched.
"Wait!" I yelped worriedly. "I didn't mean it, I-"
"FORGET IT!" Tsunami screamed furiously. At this point her face was redder than a tomato. "I hope I NEVER see your stupid face again."
Those words left a huge empty hole in my chest, but it disappeared quickly. Usually Tsunami and I would regularly throw insults back and forth at each other, but in a friendly, teasing way. This time was different; we were truly angry.
I stalked up to her, fuming just as much. "Fine, bastard! I don't care, anyway, I never did."
Turning on my heels, I ran back to the school building, not knowing why I was going there but still sprinting there anyway. On my way, I collided face-to-neck with another person.
"I'm so sorry!" Darkstalker spluttered, the scarlet on his cheeks showing all his embarrassment. "I wasn't looking where I was going."
"No, it's fine, I just had a bad day." I forced a smile. "See you around?"
"Yup." He noticed his friends in a taxi, and continued walking away.
However, he did not notice the gust of wind that picked up a paper in his pocket, that blew on the ground. I picked it up and started running after him.
"Darkstalker!" I yelped, as I frantically waved the paper. "You dropped this!"
But the taxi was already driving out of the entrance, about to hit the highway.
Eh, whatever. I'll just give it to him tomorrow. Plus, maybe this paper's got something juicy in it! I thought excitedly.
Unfortunately, the paper was just a piece of math homework. Sighing, I was about to put it away but then my stomach lurched as a wave of recognition hit me.
This handwriting ...
Digging into my backpack, I snatched out a love note Tsunami sent Clay and compared it to the homework. Sure enough, the words on both papers were written in the same format, with the same dark purple sharpie pen.
Somebody will get more than just a zero on missing math homework tomorrow.
A/N: Ooh, some serious stuff is going on and Darkstalker is gonna get rekt ...
