Chapter 10
"So you're sure there's no boy in your life making you smile that big?" Olivia questioned, raising her eyebrows at me. I hastily put my phone back in my pocket. I knew I had been smiling goofily at my phone. Niall was texting me.
"No, no boy, why would you think there was?" I questioned, straightening my posture.
"Because you're still smiling like an idiot," she chuckled, trying to peep at my phone screen, although I hastily clicked the lock button before she got a glimpse of the screen.
"So," I shrugged. "I-"
"Who else do you text other than me or your mother," she raised her eyebrows at me. "And if it isn't me, I highly doubt your mother is putting a grin like that on your face."
"You never know," I smiled, standing up and going to the kitchen to get a drink. It was Niall who was placing this immense smile on my face. He was just being his charming, amiable self.
I have been attempting to get together the money for his as soon as I can. I have been over-exerting myself with work to try and gather as much cash as I could. It was quite ineffectual. My bills came in this week, I hadn't much to spare after paying those off.
I barely even registered what Olivia was saying anymore. My mind was diluted with thoughts of how I was going to pay back Niall. I need to do it soon, but by the look of things, that is going to be unattainable.
Once Olivia left I just sighed deeply, running a hand over my face and deciding to go down to my bedroom to take my mind off things. I sat down at my desk, taking out my notebook and I began to pour my feelings onto the page, letting the pen divulge my emotions onto the page.
I was so immersed in my task I did not even hear the front door opening, almost screaming when I heard an idiosyncratic accent in my ear. "What ya doin'?" He asked. I let out an eldritch screech and turned to face the voice. Niall.
"W-what are you doing here?" I questioned, placing a hand over my heart which was palpitating, wiping my forehead were beads of perspiration were accumulating.
"Sorry, I was knocking but nobody heard me," Niall explained as I closed my notebook and put my pen back in its holder before turning around to face him.
"Sorry," I blushed, pushing a strand of my hair behind my ear.
"What were ya doin'?" Niall asked, trying to take a look at the notebooks I had. I quickly shoved them into a drawer, out of his view.
"Nothing," I responded, with no hesitation. He just smiled fondly and shrugged, fixing his glasses on his nose. Why is he so endearing with just the simplest of actions?
"Anyways, I was wondering if ya wanted t' come out tonight? Me n' my friends are goin' n' I'd like you to come," he smiled at me, swaying on his heels with his hands behind his back.
"My friends and I," I correcting him to which he rolled his eyes. "And I can't.. I have work," I quietly said, biting on my lip and doing everything in vain to avoid eye contact with him. Futile, to say the least.
"Avi," Niall sighed, rubbing a hand over his face. "Please, don't do this to yourself," he whispered, kneeling down next to me and taking my hand in his. He sighed softly and stroked the back of my hand with the pad of his thumb. It sent shivers up my spine. Gosh, why has he got this affect on me?
"Niall, I have to," I whispered, looking down at him.
"Here, look, how 'bout you take tonight off. Come out and have a bit a' fun, when was the last time you were out?" He asked, raising his eyebrows at me. "That means out and not working," he added.
I sighed quietly, biting on my lip. I couldn't recall, probably because that never occurred. I was young when I had Harper, I was only nineteen. I don't regret it in any sense though, she's the best thing that has ever happened to me. Even if I didn't want her in the beginning of pregnancy, I'll never regret going through with it.
"But Harper's sitter is-"
Niall cut me off, "Don't worry about Harper, I will get a babysitter sorted for 'er for tonight and that means you won't have to worry about getting home to 'er," he smiled, taking a stance.
"Niall, I can't. Harper would be unsure with a new babysitter and I can't do that to-"
He cut me off once more, "How many times have ya left Harper and gone out n' had a good time with y'er friends?" Niall questioned raising his eyebrows at me. I vigorously immersed myself into deep thought in an attempt to possible recall if I had ever left her. I hadn't.
"I haven't," I bit on my lip, picking at my nails timorously and avoiding eye contact.
"Right then, I'll arrange a high class sitter - well actually m'going t' call my bodyguard, Basil and he'll sort it f'er us," Niall smiled, taking out his phone, presumably texting this Basil guy.
I sighed quietly, feeling quite disconcerted at the idea of venturing into unprecedented territory for me. I have gone out, but never to have a good time myself, I only ever appease other people's needs for a good time.
"Have ya something nice t' wear?" Niall asked, inviting himself to venture though my wardrobe, disregarding the courtesy of seeking permission in advance. "Oh this is nice." He retrieved a playsuit from my wardrobe and held it up to my body. I felt a rush of heat flushing my cheeks, biting down on my lip, turning it white. "Wear this." He smiled fondly at my reaction, eyeing me up and down.
"No Niall, I haven't the body for that," I shook my head, we both knew that was an was not a plausible argument in regards to not wearing it. We both know of my job and I think the predominance of the society know the strict regulations we must adhere to. We have to keep out bodies in quintessential condition.
"Don't lie t' me," Niall shook his head and placed it in my hands. "I know ya have an amazing body most girls would die t' have," he smirked, boyish and predicable before he left the room, allowing me the courtesy to change on my own.
Once I had the attire on, I retrieved my gladiator heels from the wardrobe, they reached just above the ankle, they weren't the over-the-top ones which almost reached ones knees. Once they were on, I peered at myself in the mirror. I didn't entirely detest my reflection, for once. I took down my hair, out of my 'mommy bun' and allowed it to flow freely amongst my shoulders.
I then began applying some makeup quickly in the mirror, I at least needed to appear half decent. As soon as I finished Niall had reappeared, searching for me, considering I was taking so long. "Come on, we'll pick up Harper on th' way, me bodyguard already has somethin' sorted for her," Niall smiled at me.
I really should not be doing this, I should be going to work. It isn't mandatory I go tonight anyways, at least, I don't think Daniel will care. This is more work on the side, to try and compensate Niall for his gratuitous gesture.
We made our way to Harper's nursery and I bit my lip then, looking over at Niall. "I can't go in dressed like this, what if other mother's see me?" I whisper, realising then I wasn't dressed appropriately for collecting an almost two year old. I wasn't dress provocatively, it was modest but keeping in mind where I was going.
"D-do ya want me t' go in?" Niall bit on his lip, peering over at me.
"But, what if people see you and then-"
"It doesn't matter, I'll be quick," he pulled up his hood and quickly exited the car before I could put in another word edgeways. I sat rather anxiously as I waited his return but a few moments later he reappeared with Harper who was running after him excitedly, holding his hand.
"They weren't gonna let me take 'er 'cause I never picked 'er up before but once she screamed 'Niall!" N' ran t' me, they let me," he chuckled as he buckled her in and smiled over at me. I smiled as well, asking her how her day was but she had no fascination in my questions, she was too exhilarated with Niall here.
When we arrived Niall informed me that we would go in a little while as soon as the babysitter got here. She was going to take Harper to our apartment then seeing as she would be more contented in her own bed. Surprisingly, she put up no fuss as soon as Niall told her what was going to happen, she went without any commotion.
We left as soon as Niall had gotten ready and had something to eat. He was wearing black skinny jeans, a shirt and a blazer along with some boots and his signature glasses and of course, flat cap. I can't comprehend how, but he can rock anything.
"You look like a little old man," I teased him as we got into the car with his bodyguard. He rolled his eyes.
"Sh'up America," he stuck his tongue out at me, puerilely.
"Don't tell me to shut up, you fruit loop," I teased to which he instigated mirthful laughter. I can't discern what he finds so entertaining about that name. I find it rather endearing.
We arrived at the nightclub, entering in the back so nobody would see Niall and I together. Much to my distaste, Niall's friends were awaiting his arrival. They looked rather consternated, they were not expecting my arrival as well. I felt a flush arise on my cheeks, knowing I was the unbidden guest accompanying Niall. Laura was the only one who greeted me satisfactorily.
Niall took my hand and led me inside. "What d'ya drink?" He questioned, over the stentorian music.
"I don't really drink much," I admitted. Being a mother at a quite an adolescent age you could say, I never got to experience this unfathomable territory much. I could count on one hand how many times I have drank and on none of those occasions did I exceed my limit and become intoxicated.
"Okay, so vodka and a mix?" Niall called out. I just nodded in response, I was lacking confidence when it came to this unprecedented territory, but I was willing to venture into it try new things. I went to get my purse out but Niall had already purchased the drink, handing one out to everyone. I thanked Niall and began to sip on it.
Niall drank excessively, he takes the saying 'go big or go home' seriously. Although I felt discomposed in the face of all these inebriated individuals, I somehow managed to remain unperturbed, on the outside anyways. I didn't want Niall to know I felt uneasy, although he was possibly too intoxicated to notice anyways, not to mention his friends.
"Hey Avi, wan'-no'der-ink?" He questioned. I couldn't discern what he was attempting to say to me, his incoherent accent was arduous enough to comprehend, not to mention when he was drunk and slurring.
"Sorry?" I frowned.
"'nother drink," his friend, Deo came over, wrapping his arm around Niall and smiling at him. I vaguely deciphered his language. I just shook my head and took a seat next to Niall when he sat down. His friends soon followed suit.
"Why did ya become a stripper 'nyway?" His friend, Willie questioned. I sighed deeply, picking up my drink and taking a substantial slug of it.
"Don't be rude Willie, tha' is none a' y'er business," Niall gave out to him. I smiled softly, even drunk he knew this was an intolerable subject for me.
"I was jus' askin," he rolled his eyes in response.
"Ya were jus' being a nosy asshole," Niall responded, wrapping an arm around me and pulling me to his chest. I breathed in his scent. His cologne overpowered the potent odour of beer, thankfully. I just sat like that as he held his arms around me, I didn't want to move, I felt secure like this. He made me feel secure.
When people began leaving, Niall announced that we should go as well. "Wanna come home with me?" He asked, looking down at me. My eyes widened for a moment and he saw the momentary flash of trepidation in my eyes. "No no, not like tha'," he quickly assured me. "Jus' t' stay over n'-"
"No, I need to go home to Harper, I always promise her will be there in the morning, I can't do that to her," I informed him. He just whined in response and wrapped his arms around me again, burying his face in my neck. The tips of his hair tickled my chin, the aroma of his hair filling my nostrils. Wait.. cinnamon? Is that cinnamon?
"Niall why does your hair smell like cinnamon?" I questioned, sniffing it then.
"'Cause I like squirrels," he mumbled into my neck, making me frown deeply. I decided not to question it, considering how intoxicated he was. "M'comin home wit' ya," Niall wrapped his arms around me tighter, the butterflies in the tummy becoming untameable.
"What? why?" I questioned quickly. He just whined again and stood up, holding his hand out to me as his bodyguard stood up as well, prepared to lead us out. He walked to the car, holding my hand, although we were picked up at the back of the venue so I assume nobody saw us, hopefully.
Niall informed the driver we weren't going to his apartment, we indeed were going to mine. He fundamentally invited himself to stay. I didn't argue, I didn't want to.
When we got home, I immediately went to Harper's room, smiling when I saw she was sleeping peacefully, cuddling her monkey teddy. I kissed her forehead and made my way to my room, my heart beginning to palpitate when I saw Niall sitting on my bed taking his shoes off.
"Oi, you fruit loop, what are you doing sitting on my bed?" I asked him, of course drunk, he found that name even more hilarious than usual. He fell back on the bed, giggling loudly, almost gasping for air. He is such a tit, but a cute tit.
"Sh'up 'Merica," he slurred, taking off his blazer jacket and getting under the covers.
"Okay, I'll take the couch," I quietly said but he sat up hastily.
"No, c'mere, m'lonely," he pouted, immediately sensing my unease with the whole predicament. "Jus' cuddle, nothin' else, promise," he assured me holding out his hands. I nodded unsurely and went to the bathroom, putting on the onesie Niall had given me and then getting into bed next to him.
"Ha-ha ya got a cock on y'er head 'gain," he hit the horn on the hood of the onesie. I just rolled my eyes and pulled the covers up, seeing he still had his jeans on. That must of been uncomfortable but I felt more at ease that he had them on.
He then pulled me to his chest, wrapping his arms around me tightly and resting his cheek on the top of my head. I can see he indeed loves cuddles. I don't mind them with him.. I smiled softly and breathing in his scent again, it oddly calmed me. He calmed me.
I bit on my lip, not sure what we were doing here, but either way, I loved it.
