Chapter 19 - Test Results
He had a lot to think about over the next couple of days. First off, the confirmation that Slenderman was sending stalkers to watch him, who was likely at Papyrus' house when Sans had told him the Sally news. The second was that a girl hit on him, which never happened. A hot girl, too, like that never happened what the hell -
He tried to not dwell on any of that for once. No. He didn't want to think about being stalked, or about what the man could want out of him, or could know, about how he could turn around and kill everyone Sans loved. And he didn't want to think about the test that he was slightly worried about, despite trusting his bro relentlessly.
Then again, the Sally incident with Charlie did throw Sans for a loop. Sans wasn't completely sure about anything anymore.
Instead, he focused his time onto things at home. Taking on a few freelancing jobs to pick up the mindset of work again, but mainly tasking himself to deal with his little CreepyPasta friends. Making sure the chore list was efficient, making sure they were doing alright, things like that.
Sans really forgot about how much he loved raising children. Sally was so pleasant to be around, she was cute and funny and always skipped around wanting to play tea party. Jeff was all edgy, which was really fun to be around. Ben was fun to play video games with.
It became a nightly ritual to tell the box about Sans' day, too. He was kind of fine if it turned out the trapped man in there couldn't hear him, because it gave a sense of relief to him, just to talk things out. He told the box everything at this point. Sometimes pulled out books for the hell of it, and read it to him. Didn't know what his tastes were so Sans switched genres pretty often.
Sans hadn't seen Jason again. Guess the fucker really did scamper. No problem, not like they had a deep emotional connection, but still. Sans really did feel like the guy used him. And he kind of did, in a weird way.
The one factor Sans did notice, though, was how close he and his roommates had grown. Jeff confided in him, Sally would snuggle up against him like Paps used to for bedtime stories, Smile Dog would have deep personal discussions with him about the nature of their lives, and Ben would send him funny memes. More so than usual.
And Sans could not get that kiss out of his head. Because, well, it was something.
Sans never had any dates before. No official ones. He asked out guys and girls, though everyone turned him down. His first kiss was some drunk dude at the bar mistaking him for his brother. Other than that? Zip, nada. Sans wasn't exactly a romanticizer for monsters. No one liked him, he was always too short for a dude, too round faced, too boney, things like that.
So this was weird. He was a short, lazy skeleton. And a hot girl kissed him without any promoting. A hot serial killer girl with already two girlfriends she clearly loved. Fuck. How the hell was he supposed to accept something like that out of the blue?
Curse that woman with slick hair and a cool way with words that made his face blush again. She hadn't even directly said anything, but just the way she spoke seemed to draw him in. She didn't even need magical siren powers, because at this rate he'd probably fall into whatever waters she was trying to lure him into by his own confused mind.
Lord, he felt like a teenage boy all over again. Confused and flustered because one person he was slightly into did something remotely hinting at an attraction. Then again, since he never got to experience this stuff, maybe this was the right reaction because of his lack of involvement with that stuff. If she openly asked for anything sexual his virgin ass would probably end up jumping her at this rate.
Nah. Sans was always too nervous to try and initiate. He wasn't that strong willed.
"Sometimes, I'd dream about that," Sans sighed, arms crossed as he dug his skull into the small shelter made by them and the table. Waiting for the inevitable news of the test to come around that fateful day, so he distracted himself with dealing with that darned kiss. "About some hot, powerful person who'd come and sweep me off my feet from all of my problems. They'd save me from something, then carry me away and we'd make love all night. Something like that. Dunno, I'm kinda a romantic. Maybe because I'm polyamorous."
Trees fluttered outside, but the box remained silent. As always.
"Am I slightly into this girl because she's hot, or because she showed a remote interest in me? I'm fucking romance starved man, I will simp for like anyone who hits on me. And she kissed me first! Which was definitely her hitting on me." He raised his head up to face the box. "I wasn't even considering romance very much before because I've been dealing with so much other shit in my life, but now that she did that I'm all confused."
Again, no response.
Sans sighed. "Ugh, why can't you just come out and be some really hot guy and fuck away all of my romance problems? Like some knight in shining armor, steal me away with kisses after you save me so we can just date and not worry about shit?"
Nothing.
Sans glanced over at the clock on the oven. Two minutes left.
Jeff was really picking up on the baking. Seriously, Sans was considering just buying like ten cookbooks for the kid to go wild with. At first, his food was kind of lopsided, and tasted too salty, but now it was pretty good. Kid was a natural.
Sans asked for Toriel's recipes yesterday night for Jeff, but had received only a couple of them he knew weren't Toriel's favorite recipes. So, instead he poked around onto her profile and found her baking recipes online before giving those to Jeff. He knew he wasn't really a chef, but she didn't have to give him the bad one's, c'mon.
Now that Sans noticed it, their relationships were... well, different. Sure, Underground they were like this, but that was when all of them were still becoming close friends. And, on the surface, that continued a bit, but once Sans saw that murder everyone seemed to grow really close!
But now it was back to the same as before. Maybe they just hit a road bump or something.
Sans didn't know. He really thought they were all super close, but now he was starting to doubt that. Because he knew Toriel gave her recipes to Undyne before without any restriction, and Undyne sucked at cooking.
His head hurt thinking about it. At this point, the CreepyPasta were going to become closer to him.
"Jeff, your shits ready!" Sans called out.
There was an audible "Fuck!" that rang out from upstairs before excited stomping. And finally did Jeff appear, visibly excited as he rushed up to the oven. Carefully did he pull on those gloves, whatever humans called them, and pulled out the brownies.
"Holy shit, these look so good!" Jeff turned towards the T.V in the living room, where Ben was. "Hey, Ben, come look at my shit!"
"Coming!"
Ben tumbled out of the T.V on all fours, before promptly falling from the height and almost faceplanting. Sans snorted.
"Nice one kid," Sans said.
"Shut up," Ben grunted.
The three of them looked down at the batch. Looked alright. It was just a flat sheet of brown, not much to talk about look wise.
"How much pot do they have in 'em?" Ben asked.
"What? None! They're coffee brownies!"
"They're almost fully made from weed," Sans whispered, elbowing Ben.
"Sans I swear to god," Jeff growled, before pulling out a knife and cutting the brownie into sections. "But since I made you this, eat it instead of thinking about that Jane bitch."
Yeah, Jeff didn't take it well when Sans had told him Jane kissed him. He almost grabbed his knife and ran out of the door to attack her at that point. Both Smile Dog and Sans had to go stop him with force before he did something really stupid. After that, Jeff went on a tangent as to why Sans was a dear friend of his and Jane couldn't touch him, before passing out on the couch. Interesting night indeed.
It was a difficult situation. Sans didn't want to judge anyone without knowing them first, but he also didn't want to go and betray Jeff's trust. What's done is done for the little deal they made, but Jeff was far more mad about Jane making an advance onto Sans.
"Yer can't dictate what people I date, kid," Sans said.
"You're CONSIDERING it?" Jeff screeched, turning around.
"I dunno! This is the first time I've ever been hit on, I'm not sure what to say!" Sans said.
"She hit on you because that's what she does to her victims!" Jeff said.
"She doesn't really, she just sorta stabs them..." Ben said quietly.
"I'm not saying I'm going to immediately start a marriage with her or anything kid, calm down there bud."
Sans wasn't sure what he was even saying about her hitting on him. Was he interested or not? He didn't know. It came out of nowhere from her before she disappeared twice as fast.
"You into her?" Ben asked, wiggling his eyebrows.
"I dunno, that's the problem," Sans said, "Am I or not? I mean, she's attractive, but I don't know her personality enough and that's what I care about. But people have started relationships with far less and those went fantastically for them! I dunno, please help my sorry ass with this."
"Sans, Sans, it's simple," Jeff placed his hands onto Sans' shoulders. "Don't go out with her. There! Problem solved!"
Suddenly, there was a knock at the front door.
"Alright, you guys know the drill," Sans said, shooing them off from the kitchen. Ben dove into the T.V, eager to watch from a distance, and Jeff pounced into the laundry room before closing the door firmly shut.
Sans knew Jane had likely already done the test. He knew one of Mettaton's live performances was this week, and that Papyrus was devoted to attending every single one.
And, sure enough, there was Papyrus behind the door. Papyrus had a tendency to visit in person whenever he had really exciting news to share. Here he was, bouncing inside with a big eager grin. Without any hesitation, he quickly prompted out a piece of paper in his hands. Yup. The same paper Jane had presented to Sans before.
"Sans, I got a private meeting with Mettaton! I got it at todays show this morning!" Papyrus clapped his hands together after Sans took it from him, looking at its contents. "I met with one of his agents today since he ended up being busy, but now I'm able to meet with him after the next show, all I have to do is show the guards for the backstage it and I can go back there and meet him!"
Yeah, it was the real deal. And a smart tactic. Jane was really good.
"That's cool, bro!" Sans said, "You get t'a see your hero, that's epic!"
He really was proud of him. Sure, Jane might have been responsible behind getting this backstage meeting, but Papyrus still deserved it. Papyrus would have gotten it eventually anyways.
And since he was going to win this bet of theirs, he was considering letting her and the other two use his house as a base anyways. Why not, you know? He'd just have to make sure Jane and Jeff wouldn't try to murder each other constantly. Maybe develop a rule for that. But she at least had to be given something for giving this opportunity to Paps.
"Sans, oh, I was wondering if you were going to be free next week!" Papyrus said.
See. Hah! He didn't know why Jane thought Papyrus wouldn't even tell him, much less invite him. He knew his bro loved him. Papyrus was the Great Papyrus after all!
"Sure, bro!" Sans said, "What's up?"
"I need you to housesit while I go meet Mettaton. Can you? Well, usually I don't ask for my house to be watched but since I'm going to be talking to Mettaton that could take all day and..."
Sans let the rest of the words Papyrus said flow over him as he stared quietly. Oh. Okay.
So he wasn't going to even tell Sans. Okay. He'd rather go alone. That was fine.
Sure, Sans wasn't a die hard fan, but he always did enjoy Mettaton from time to time. Which Papyrus knew. So this wasn't him thinking Sans hated him... and it wasn't costing anything out of Papyrus' time or wallet to go with Sans...
Realizing Papyrus had stopped, expecting Sans' answer, he looked up and forced an answer.
"Sure thing, bro," He said quietly.
Papyrus beamed, showing a smile that Sans had always loved. "Thank you! I'm sorry, I would have brought you along if Mettaton allowed it, but only the Great Papyrus is allowed!"
Sans smiled back. It felt empty. "Course Paps."
It felt like a long walk back to his room. Like a journey across the land, though it was only up his stairs. And finally into his bedroom. Where he simply grabbed a blanket and rolled it over him, tucking beneath it to avoid the world.
