Chapter 9
*Hello! I know it's been ages since I've updated, but this is a bit of a thanks to you for 200 reads. Enjoy!*
Ezra inhaled the crisp scent of the pine trees. Outside. Finally.
"Dude, come on!", Soos yelled. The handyman was going to teach Ezra how to drive the golf cart, and the two were going to head to the Phantom. "Wait up!", he called out.
"Okay, so you use this to go, and you use this to stop." Soos explained. The teen shrugged. This seemed easy enough. Pushing the pedal slightly, the golf cart slowly moved forward. Soos nodded proudly. "You're ready."
Pushing on the pedal a little harder, the vehicle sped up, heading into the forest.
He didn't know what to expect. The teen figured it would be bad, otherwise he wouldn't of ended up here. Not that it was a bad thing. Ezra had slowly warmed up to the place. The forest, the people. He kind of liked it here. He liked it even more now that he was outside.
Turning onto a path, a thing not higher than a foot with red on top rolled out of the way. "Also, watch out for gnomes.", Soos stated, as if this was absolutely ordinary. "Not cool!" a voice yelled from behind. "Sorry!"
Gnomes. Huh. Ever since Dipper showed Ezra that book of his, the teen knew that he was lucky to crash where he did. Everything else was so weird, he'd blend right in. Ezra and Dipper have talked about doing mystery hunts ever since the teen could walk. They were really getting to connect.
Soos pulled at him through the destructed road, leading right to the Phantom, with Ford working on the exterior. Ezra ran around the ship, muttering "Karabast" and "Blast" repeatedly. Ford looked at him with concern. "What's wrong?" The teen chuckled slightly. "Hera is going to kill me."
"Hera?" Soos asked. A thought came into his head. "Your mom?" The teen kept chuckling as he began working along with Ford. "No, but she might as well be." Analyzing an engine, he continued explaining, "Hera is the captain of this ship, which is a part of another ship called the Ghost."
Ford listened intently as he worked. Messing with a part of the exterior, he watched Ezra work with the ship. Soos continued to ask questions, but all of them were ignored. The boy was focused, and Ford didn't want to disturb that.
The Phantom was a pure wreck. And that was an understatement.
Ezra worked diligently on the com system. Well, as much as he could anyway. It was a little difficult with Soos always on his back. Don't get him wrong, Ezra really liked the guy, but this was important. Sheer focus was mandatory right now.
Fumbling with the ship, Ford was lost in his thoughts. It had been so long since he last saw a craft like this. He wondered what has and hasn't changed since he was there. He prayed on Ezra's behalf that there still wasn't a war. Bridger was a good kid, and he doesn't deserve to be stuck in the middle of something like this.
Ghost was a familiar name, he had heard about it quite a bit when he was over there. Whoever this Hera person was, if she was using it for the same reason the craft was used back then, then she was doing good things with the kid.
Ford's thoughts shifted back to the datapad. He had to tell Ezra before he was gone for good.
