Chapter 7
*OOOHHHH YEEESS! Look at all these reads! Thank you so much, I'll try to update soon. In the meantime, enjoy yourselves hoomans of Earth, aliens of Mars, and people of a galaxy far far away.*
Ezra inhaled deeply against the doorframe. He did it. After nearly a week stuck in this room, he actually did it. Granted, he was up all night trying, but as the morning sun reached the open window, he wasn't in bed.
Bridger wanted to celebrate. He wanted to jump to the roof and cheer. He wanted to run down the hallway, yelling as loud as he can.
Taking a deep breath, Ezra decided to test his luck. Stepping out into the hallway, he looked around and continued toward the corner. Slowly but surely, he was going somewhere. Literally. In his confidence, however, he slammed and fell on top of something, creating a loud noise.
Waddles woke up in the middle of the night, not noticing the footsteps in the hallway. Waddling over to Dipper's bed, he decided to sleep. On his face. "Mm, no Waddles." Trying again, the pig snuggled up on top of him. A little more awake, Dipper gently shoved him off the bed. "Waddles, I said no. You can sleep with Mabel, but I'm off limits. Okay?" The pig simply cocked his head. The boy sighed. "I wouldn't expect you to understand."
A loud crash came from the hallway. Partly awake became fully awake as Dipper grabbed a flashlight and a golf club. Mabel stirred a little bit, slowly waking up. "Hm? What's going-" Dipper covered her mouth and told her to keep quiet. "I think there's something in the house."
She shot up as well, grabbing her grappling hook without a seconds notice. The brother-sister duo slowly left the room and crept towards the source with weapons in hand.
The teen had successfully moved the vase back onto the table (Pain makes you move a lot slower than intended) when he was almost blinded by the light. Whatever it came from, he sure hoped the source had an off trigger. His head was hurting enough already. "E-ezra?" Mabel asked steadily. "No, his twin brother.", the teen remarked.
They put their weapons down, but the flashlight was still on. "Phew." Mabel commented. But one thing was still in question. "So, did someone help you get here, or-", Dipper asked unsteadily.
Ezra shook his highly held head, blocking his eyes from the light that was blinding him. "Okay, A, could you please turn that off?", he asked as politely as he could. Dipper then took notice of the bright light. "Oops, sorry."
Looking at the two, Ezra straightened himself up. "And B, nope. I actually walked here, on my own." Dipper and Mabel were pretty darn surprised. "You, walked?" Nodding excitedly, Ezra went and attempted to walk, the twins catching him before he fell. As soon as Ezra was up, Dipper began forcing the teen towards his room, with Mabel in suit. "That's great, but you should probably head back to bed now."
The kid shook furiously away from the two. "No thank you. I've come this far, I'm not going back just yet." Breaking free, the teen began to slowly walk towards the other direction. There was no way he was giving up that easily.
The twins walked a little bit behind him, allowing the teen to walk on his own. Guiding him downstairs, Ezra took a good look at the house. "Sorry it's messy. We would've cleaned up if we knew you would end up coming down here." Ezra shook his head. "Nothing to apologise for." And he meant it. It honestly didn't bother him.
Mabel nudged her brother's arm. "Ow, what?" She huddled up with him, compassion showing on her eyes. "I know what you're thinking. And I want to too. But he's been in there for so long. Give him a chance to see the world." Dipper sighed. "Fine."
"You do realise I can hear everything you're saying, right?"
The twins turned around towards the cross-armed, eyebrow-raised teenager. Dipper announced, "We do now!" Ezra chuckled. These guys. Gotta love 'em.
Mabel cleared her throat, signaling her brother to start. "Um, I don't suppose you would want, to, um-" "Stay down here for a day!" Mabel almost yelled. Ezra didn't hesitate on his answer. He's been wanting to come downstairs, and now he could come down and meet everyone.
"Perfect. So we can just hang out here until Grunkle Stan wakes up." Dipper suggested. Still standing, the teen began to keep walking. "Where are you going?" All Ezra did was shrug. "Wherever this hallway leads. And when I'm done, I'll walk down the other one." Already upside down in the chair, Mabel called out, "Fine with us."
The kid turned around, taking a deep breath. "Look out Earth, here comes Ezra Bridger."
Later that day, Dipper was reading the journal (once again) while Mabel was showing Ezra how to operate her grappling hook. The teenager was wearing a yellow T-shirt, blue jeans, and a pair of sneakers that the twins found. They figured a change would help him blend in around here.
Crashing the hook into a bookshelf, Ezra finally asked Mabel, "And he's okay with you owning this?" After receiving a nod, he shrugged. If it's okay with their guardian, it's okay with him. "Grunkle Stan isn't much for rules.", Dipper explained.
Glancing at a fake attraction, he remarked, "I noticed." It still amazed him, how everyone thought these were real. Those people must truly be, as Stan described, the dumbest on Earth.
It was very apparent that the twins' great uncle didn't like him. At all. But they were both difficult to trust, and a little rough around the edges to say the least. All it took was a little time, and Ezra was sure that despite his attitude, there was a mutual respect, from one criminal to another.
"Yeah. I don't think this place would have existed if he was." Wendy joined in. Ezra met the redhead a couple of hours ago, and he was already head over heels for her. Sabine was thousands of lightyears away, he didn't think the warrior would mind and/or notice.
Ezra gave the grappling hook back to the tween girl and began messing with the cash register, where Dipper was reading his journal. "Good stuff?", he casually asked.
"Dipper's been doing paranormal conspiracies all summer, and he's convinced himself that the town's out to get him.", Mabel told without shame.
Her brother scoffed. "Conspiracies, please. These are no 'conspiracies'. This journal has information about anomalies all over this town." Ezra wasn't convinced. In the few day's he's known the boy, Dipper has received himself a rep for being a little paranoid. "Don't believe me?" He gave the journal to Ezra. "Look, see for yourself."
Ezra has seen a number of strange things in his time. He's encountered ancient laser-sword wielding warriors, creatures that can live in deep space, and has witnessed, as well used telekinetic and telepathic powers. But the padawan was going to need a little more evidence to prove that unicorns and gnomes lived in the woods of a laid-back small town.
After flipping through a couple of pages, Ezra motioned for Dipper to come closer. Obeying, the teen not-so-quietly whispered into Dipper's ear, "Did you get this from Stan?" Everyone else busted out laughing, but Dipper wasn't as happy as the rest. Giving a slight brush-it-off chuckle, Dipper remarked, "Et tu Brute?" Ezra did the gun gesture to the boy.
"Alright, alright." Dipper waved his hands. Looking to Ezra, Dipper mock threatened him to bite his tongue. "Yeah, yeah. I'll do that when I see one of these.", Ezra pointed to a picture of a magic crystal. Dipper accepted the challenge. As the boy left, he called out from behind, "I'm just saying, you're gonna be sorry."
Almost falling over, Ezra decided now would be the best time to tell them about the very important message. "Oh, um, quick question." "Hm?" "Have you ever heard of a man, thing, I don't know, by the name of Cipher? B-Bill Cipher? He looks like-" Reaching for the journal, the teenager began to frantically flip through the pages. "He looks like this." He finally stated, landing on a triangle with an eye, arms and legs. It was dressed with a bow tie and a top hat.
Responding casually was the twin's first response. Last thing they wanted was a frightened Ezra. Not with that gun in arms reach. "Yeah, why? You know him?" The boy shrugged. "Sort of. He showed up in my head, and asked me to do something for him."
"Yeah, like what? Burn the town with your laser eyes? Or take it over with cloning?", Mabel asked suspiciously. "What! No! I don't even have that! He asked me to deliver your uncle a message." Dipper gestured for the boy to proceed. "Apparently he wants to have a talk with the two of you. About what, I don't know. Don't want to either."
The Mystery Shack gang nervously glanced at each other. This didn't mean anything good. "Well, thank you for doing so.", Dipper firmly stated before leaving.
Congrats to you, kid. I guess you can get a job done. Bill began flashing pictures as he laughed. Now to engage step two of my plan with this guy. This should be fun.
It was as if he had downright vanished. As days counted on, the Ghost crew turned up with no leads, no sources, no news of Spectre Six. And underneath the hard shell of a leader she had, Hera was beginning to lose hope. Fast.
She hadn't just lost a crew member anymore. Ezra Bridger was her little boy, and she was ready to give just about anything to find something, anything about his whereabouts. Kanan told her about the voice he heard. At first she thought the same thing he did, that he was losing it. But now, all she could rely on was that voice. And the thought that it was right.
