05│DANCE CLASSES

DOM DANCED AROUND the room with Troy as they practiced. Troy twirled her around the room, causing Dom to let out a fits go giggles. Troy did not know that by making this choice, he will be connecting with Dom at this level. It was fun as it let his mind drift away from the painful expectations he had to meet to make others proud.

Kelsi played the last note just went Troy pulled Dom closer to him. Dom looked down at the floor, her brain going fuzzy and her neck becoming pink. The pink shade of her neck reached her cheeks, clearly seen by Troy who let out a small laugh.

"Excellent." Kelsi said, smiling up at the sight of the two. "We will teach the Evans a lesson. I mean...don't repeat that." Kelsi said to the two of them. Dom laughed, and patting Kelsi on her shoulder.

"Wouldn't think of it." Dom said, looking up at the time. "I have to go. I got dance practice." Dom told them, running towards the door. "See you tomorrow," She said to the two of them. Troy watched the blonde girl run, leaving him and Kelsi. Throughout the past weeks, the three of them had practiced for the callbacks.

Troy walked to his backpack, getting ready to get back to his home when he was stopped by Kelsi's voice. "She likes you." Kelsi said, catching his attention. "I mean...I don't want to intrude or anything, but clearly you like her back. Oh, and your chemistry is..." Kelsi strailed off. Troy awarkdly shuffed across the room. "Are you guys dating?" Kelsi asked him.

This question struck Troy. "Ummm.... We....umm...yeah....we are dating." He answered, cringing at his repose. "I we are.  I think we are. " Troy told Kelsi.

"Well, that's good news then. You two make up the perfect pair." Kelsi told him, turning back at the piano.

Troy nodded, opening the door, ready to leave. He stopped and then turned to Kelsi. "If you kiss a girl many times, and have been already on three dates. That means you are together? I mean, dating, right?" Troy asked Kelsi. Kelsi nodded at him.

As the days went on, the two lovebirds would practice and practice. It was even a very good excuse to invite Dom to his home. However, they both had the Evans right on their feet; always trying to plan their ruin. After Troy had ran out to get to his basketball practice, Dom sat by herself mumbling a few words from the song Kelsi had written. "Dominick Kendrick, the attacker to our theater." Sharpay said, looking down at Dom.

Dom looked up from her work and scoffed at Sharpay. "Actually, I think it's you. You use the 'I want to save the theater' card just to weakly justify how you treat others. Pathetic, if I say so myself." Dom told Sharpay.

Sharpay hit her heel against the floor in indignation. "You better watch out, Kendrick. You could have walked away, but you didn't."

"Because I'm Wayne, and Wayne never walk away from anything." Dom said, making a reference to her favorite hero. Dom took a hold of her sweater, and used it to cover her face. "And neither does Batman." She said in a low voice. Sharpay looked at her confused and afraid. Dom waited a few seconds before jumping and making a 'boo' sound just to scare Sharpay. Sharpay took a few steps back, colliding with a box and falling to the floor. A couple of laughs were heard in the theater. Sharpay send deadly glares at everyone before standing up from the floor. Dom could see she was still startled by her.

Sharpay held her head high before turning around, leaving the theater. Dom let out a small laugh as she watch her go. "Nicely done, Dom." Kelsi said, watching how the Evans left the theater.

Sharpay Evans glared at the floor as her heels clicked the floor. "Kendrick will have it coming. We got to have a plan against them. We got to find their weak point." Sharpay said to her brother.

"I liked her Batman voice." Ryan mumbled, smiling at Sharpay. Sharpay glared at him, and he nodded. "Right, a plan. It will be hard, they practice everywhere. I just know they sound good." Ryan told his sister.

Sharpay stopped in the middle of the hall, causing Ryan to fear for what his sister had planned out. "We got to save our spots here, brother. I have got an idea." Sharpay said, smirking at Ryan. "And we could even get my dear Troy back as well. We just need a camera and a car." Sharpay said to Ryan before starting walking again.

"Oh, god." Ryan sighed, following his sister.

Troy was shooting some basketballs into the hoop. He had arrived late for practice and his father was not happy about it. As he watched one ball enter the hoop with ease, he was startled by the voice behind him. "Troy Bolton, the Wildcat's star." Dom yelled, putting her hands around her mouth to use it as a megaphone. "The best prayer that East High has. Let's all have an applause to Troy Bolton." Dom said, making a fake audience noise while standing in one of the bleachers.

Troy chuckled at her. Dom smirked at him before making a small twirl and jumping to the court. "You are distracting me." Troy joked, shooting one of the balls to the hoop and scoring.

Dom smirked at him. "Doesn't seem like it, Wildcat." Dom joked, sending a wink towards him.

"Oh really?" Troy asked, hiding the basketball behind him. "Do I distract you?" Troy joked.

Dom rolled her eyes at him, while coming closer to him. He put her arms around his check, and her smirk widen. "Sometimes." Dom told him.

Troy smiled at her, not noticing Dom's hand reaching for the ball behind him. Dom quickly took the ball and took a few steps away from Troy. "Hey," The brunette said, looking at Dom in confusion. Troy smirked at her before chasing her across the school gym. Dom moved swiftly for a few minutes before Troy put his arms around her, stopping her from running away. Dom let out a small laugh as Troy did a funny face to make her smile. "So, is there some secret passage to your Batcave here in the Gym?" Dom asked him as Troy took the ball away from her.

"No, just a smelly gym." Troy said, handing Dom the ball back. He nodded towards the basketball hood in front of them.

"No, I can't throw." Dom joked, looking at Troy with a shy smile.

"Yeah you can." Troy told her, rolling his eyes. Dom shook her head. Troy walked behind her and put his arms around her waist from behind them. He put Dom's hand on the basketball and motioned her how to through it. Dom threw the ball, and screamed in delight when the ball got inside the hoop. "Told you could." Troy said, smirking at her. Dom smiled back at him. The blonde could not wipe off her face ever since Troy had kissed her on the roofs weeks ago.

"By the way, I missed practice. So if I get kicked off the team, it should be on your conscience." Troy told Dom. Dom smiled ta him.

"Maybe that means you will have more free time with me." Dom told him, smiling slightly at him.   Troy put and arm around her waist.

"Doesn't sound like a bad idea at all to me." Troy said, quickly kissing her cheek. "You free saturday night?" He asked her, smiling down at her.

Dom nodded at him. "Are you taking me on a magnificent date?" Dom asked him quietly, narrowing the space between them.

"Sure am." Troy told her before kissing her. Dom smiled to the kiss as she wrapped her arms around Troy neck. Troy pulled away with a huge smile on his face. Chad and his team mates had noticed the lovely smile he wore all the rime now. What they did not know was the reason behind it: Dom.

A loud cough, startled the two of them. Both teens separated from each other and watched how Coach Bolton was approaching them with a stair look on his face. "Miss, I'm sorry, this is a closed practice. Oh, Dom." Mr.Bolton said, surprised that the girl standing next to his son was his blonde best friend.

Troy sighed, taking the ball from the floor. "Dad, practice is over." Troy told his father.

Mr.Bolton turned to his son with a sour face. "Not until the last prayer leaves the gym. Team rule." He said to him.

Dom sensed the anger that was radiating from Troy's father. "Sorry, Mr.Bolton." She quietly apologized, not wanting to push his buttons.

Mr.Bolton turned to look at Dom with a disapproving look. "Dad, she was just passing by. I needed her help." Troy said, defending his girlfriend.

Mr.Bolton glared at Troy. "Ah, your detention buddy." He snapped at his son.

Dom sighed, passing the ball to Troy who was glaring back at his father. "I will see you later, Troy. I got a practice on my own to meet." Dom told him, making a small jazz hands; which caused Troy to smile. Dom turned to Mr.Bolton and gave him a polite smile. "It was nice to see you, Mr.Bolton." Dom told him before leaving the gym.

"You as well, Kendrick." Mr.Bolton told Dom.

Dom opened the door just to jump at the sight in front of her. She was not expecting the whole Wildcats team to be in front of her. "I...I didn't you guys were in here. Well, see you later." She said before quickly walking away.

Chad looked at Dom before catching up to her. "You and Troy. You...and....h-him. How? Why? How?" He asked her, still confused and surprised at what he and the rest of the team witness in the gym.

"I don't know what you are talking about." Dom told him.  Chad rolled his eyes and let her go, knowing that as much as he asked her; she will not give him an answer.

Chad looked over his shoulder and then back at the team. "They are dating and we didn't even know." Chad told them with a small frown on his face.

"Well, if it makes you feel any better, they might not even be dating." Jason said, just to get annoying looks from the rest of the team. "Hey, I was just trying to be nice." Jason mumbled.

Troy sighed, shaking his head at his father's ignorance. "Dad, detention was my fault, not hers." Troy said, still looking at the door in which Dom left to go to dance practice.

Mr.Bolton put his arms over his chest. "You haven't miss practice in three years. This year, you do." He told his son.

Troy knew the look his dad had, and he knew what he was thinking. "That doesn't mean..." Troy started, but was cut off by his father.

"Troy, I know about the googling eyes you give her. This year, you said that you were going to win her heart. The year you start to miss practice. I don't think it's a coincidence. That girl..." Mr.Bolton started, but was cut off by a fuming Troy Bolton.

"That girl is named Dominick. She is nice. You have known her for years." Troy snapped at him.       "She is talented, smart and..." Troy started, but it was his father's turn to cut him off.

"Pretty? Helping you miss practice doesn't make her very nice. Not in my book. At first I thought it might be a good influence on you since she is a good student, guess I was mistaken." Mr.Bolton replied.

"Dad's she is not the problem. She is just a girl." Troy said more calm than before, trying to reason with him.

"But you are not just a guy, Troy." Mr.Bolton snapped at him. "You are the team leader. You are the face of this school on the field. This girl is not important, what is important is your team and the school. What affects you affects the rest of the team. Simple has that." The father told his son. "Just forget about her. You will find somebody else when you get to collage." He added, making Troy look up to him with seriousness. "Plus, without you completely focused, we are not gonna win next week." He added. Troy sighed, looking down at the ball in his hands. "The championships games, they don't come along all the time. They are something special. Girl aren't. They come all the time." Mr.Bolton explained, causing Troy to scoff at his words.

Troy narrowed his eyes at his father. "Yeah, a lot of things are special, dad. And Dom is one of them." Troy told him, shaking his head in denial. He could not believe that his father was really saying that Dom was just like other girls: just somebody.

"But you're playmaker, not a singer, right?" His father asked him. It was a question that Mr.Bolton had always wanted to ask.

"Did you ever think maybe I could be both? Dom does, and she has always believe in me. She has always been encouraging me to follow my heart, why can't you do the same." Troy said before throwing the ball at his dad. He opened the door, and left the gym quickly.

Chad followed Troy through the Library. He had been dying to know why did his best friend had missed practice - in Chad's eyes - for just a girl. "What spell has this elevated-IQ sweet girl cast tat suddenly makes you want to be in a musical?" Chad asked Troy as they walked around the library. Troy had to find some book for his homework, and just wished that Chad would leave him alone so that he could do it peacefully.

Troy sighed, looking over the shelfs. "Look, I just did it. Who cares?" Troy replied to him.

"Who cares? How about your loyal best friend." Chad asked him, rolling his eyes.

"Quiet Mr.Danforth." The librarian said, making both of them jump.

Chad pointed at Troy. "It's him, Miss Falsaff, not me." He told the elder lady before he turned back around to talk to Troy. "Look, you're a hoops dude, not a musical singing person. If you are trying to impress her, then bring her flowers, chocolate. Oh, take her to the movies? Have you ever seen Michael Crawford on a cereal box? " Chad asked him.

"Who is Michael Crawford?" Troy asked him.

"Exactly my point." Chad replied. "He was the Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. My mom, she's seen the musical 27 times, and she put Michael Crawfrod's picture in our refrigerator. Yeah, not on it, in it." Chad told him. Troy rolled his eyes at him. "So my point is, if you play basketball, you're going to end up on the cereal box. If you're in musicals, you will end up in my mom's refrigerator." Chad explained, knowing Troy was not understanding his point.

"Why would she put his picture in her refrigerator?" Troy asked him.

Chad raised his hands in surrender. "One of her crazy diet ideas. Look, I don't attempt to understand the female mind." He answered. "It's frightening territory." Chad whispered. "How do you expect the rest of us to be focused on a game if you are off somewhere in leotards, singing Twinkle Town?" Chad added.

"No one said anything about leotards." Troy told him, rolling his eyes at him.

"Not yet my friend, but just wait." Chad said, following his eyes at were Troy had his: Dominick Kendrick. Chad waved a hand over Troy's face, bringing back. "Look, we need you, Captain. Big time." Chad told him. Troy sighed, rising his head when his name was called. Dom gave him a huge smile and a small wave.

Dom arrived at the dance studio with ease, without knowing that a black car was following her. Days passed and now Sharpay and her brother were planning their revenge against their fellow classmate. Dom got out of the car with her older brother.

"Seems like our dear Dom is cheating on Troy Bolton." Sharpay said to her brother, who just rolled his eyes at her.

"That's her older brother. Don't you remember meeting him during Dom's first school rehearsal at the end of middle school. You wouldn't shut up about him because he was 'hot'" Ryan told Sharpay.

Sharpay sighed, watching Dom enter the old dance studio. Dom opened the door, just to hug two identical twins before going inside. "We are going in." Sharpay told him. Sharpay turned on her camera and opened the door of the car. "We are going to catch her in whatever she does after school." Sharpay said to her brother, ignoring the big sign that was at the entrance.

"She dances." Ryan said to himself, reading the sign on the top of the entrance. He followed his sister, looking at the different dancing smiling to each other. The fun atmosphere was on it's picks since they were preparing for their dance competition. Sharpay almost crashed into one of the dancers who was doing beat-boxing while the others sang and dance. Ryan nodded to himself as he saw his sister look at one of the dance studios.

"Found her." Sharpay said to Ryan.

"Okay, team. This is what we are going to do, Dom you will practice your duet with Moose firstly. Then the music will change to the remix, and we will do dance 2." Sean Kendrick, Dom's older brother said to the dance team.

"Are you still going to have your solo with  Nathalie?" One of the dancers, who went by the name of Elizabeth said.

Before Sean could respond, the Santiago twins cut him off. "If not we will have our magnificent solo with Dom over here." The Santiago twin, Martin and Marco, said to Sean as they put a arm around Dom's shoulder. Laughs were held along the dance room.

"Or we could have another solo for Helbert the robot." Dom said, winking at the man next to her.  Helbert Hall was one of the best dancers of the team, and they all knew it.

"Time to turn on this camera." Sharpay said before she laughed slightly. "Let's see if she really knows how to dance." She mumbled to herself.

Dom put her hair in a pony tale before taking her position. "Really, Moose?" She joked, causing her best friend to laugh.

"Never felt better." He joked back.  The soft tango song played, causing Dom to smirk. Dom approached, with a small smirk on her face. "You better not step on my toes." He told her before she narrowed the space between each other.

"Oh, are you taking Camille out this weekend?" Dom asked him quietly as they danced.

"Yep, got tickets to see her favorite band." Moose told her as he followed to her side of the dance floor before quickly spinning her around. He then pulled her closer, making a weird face on purpose, causing Dom to laugh.

(Here is the video from Step Up 3, the Broken Tango scene which will be the one that Moose and Dom are dancing. I think this is helpful to better visualize the dance.)

Sharpay eyes stay widen at it. Ryan came closer to her, amazed by Dom's talent. "She is amazing at that." Ryan noted, looking at how Moose and Dom bowed to each other in a jokingly away.

"Yep, but it is a shame the dance is that intimate." Sharpay said, moving the camera sideways.

A loud yell was heard down the hall, catching the two Evans attention. The Evans came to face one of the dancers from Dom's team. "What are you two doing in there with a camera?" The dancer, who happened to be close friends with Dom's brother, said to them.

"Great job." Moose told Dom, both making their signature handshake. The team was about to dance when they heard a loud yell from outside the doors. Dom got a chance to see the blonde hair with a pink t-shirt before it ran off. "What the hell was that?" Moose asked, nodding towards the door.

Dom shrugged, following the team outside the room. Outside, the dancer who had called the Evans off, Henry, approached Sean and Dom with a sour look on his face. "It was the duo that go to your school. A girl with blonde hair and pink clothe." He told the Kendrick.

"Sharpay Evans." Both brothers said at the same time. Dom sighed, rolling her eyes at them.

"Why would the blonde egotistical witch be here?" Moose asked her as she tapped her feet in sync with the music.

"Probably trying to find a way to ruin callbacks for me and Troy." Dom told him, making some moves of her own before making a quick spin with the tip of her toes.

Helbert made a sad robotic face, causing Dom to smile. "Your new boyfriend?" Sean asked her, as he stood next to his talented sister.

Dom nodded at him. "Oww," Marco said, making a over exaggerated shock sound.

His brother quickly followed and knelt down in front of Dom. "Oh no, I'm Troy and in love with a talented dancer called Dom. Oh Dom, how much I love you?" Martin said, making a over exaggerated voice of love

"Maybe more than the galaxy." Marco continued.

"Quit it boys." Dom told them quietly as small blush appeared on her cheeks.

"We should all team up and help Sean scare him off." Henry told the rest of the team, causing Sean to chuckle.

"I think it's a perfect idea." Dom sarcastically said before turning on the music, without knowing that the video that Sharpay recorded will be used against her.
