11; Or Worse-Grounded

"What are you doing tonight?"

"Well," Ryan sighed, shutting her locker and leaning back against it. "Scott has a date thing with Allison, and Stiles is probably gonna be out doing something stupid, so I'm free. Why?"

"I thought maybe we could hang out." Isaac suggested, Ryan raising her eyebrows. This made him clear his throat, looking down at the ground. "To study."

"Isaac." She paused, a grin growing on her face as she picked a piece of lint off of his sweater. "You don't need to use studying as an excuse to hang out with me."

"Right." He cleared his throat again, his face heating up as he scratched the back of his neck. "Would you like to hang out?"

Ryan puckered her lips for a moment, looking up at the ceiling as if she was deep in thought. Isaac's eyes widened nervously, before she laughed and nudged his arm. "Of course I would."

"Cool." Isaac sucked in a sharp breath, trying to calm his nerves. The bell rang, making them look up. "Well, text me your address and I will.. just kidding, don't do that. I've been to your house, I have that already."

"Cool." Ryan repeated, biting softly into her bottom lip as the corners of her mouth tugged up into a smile. She turned on her heel and walked to class, clutching her binder to her chest.

She slid into her seat, still smiling like an idiot as she set her binder onto the desk. Lydia noticed, giving her an annoyed look. "What's your deal?"

"Nothing." Ryan shook her head, the smile still not leaving her face. "Just having a good day."

Scott sat next to her, but she didn't even notice. He could hear her pulse racing, but it was more in excitement than anything else.

About twenty minutes into class Scott went to the bathroom, and Ryan felt a tap on her shoulder. She let out a long sigh, turning around. "What do you want, Greenberg?"

"I was wondering if you wanted a brownie." Ryan couldn't hear the boys a few seats down snickering, knowing something she didn't. "My uh, mom made them."

"What's the catch?" She narrowed her eyes, Greenberg just putting up his hands defensively and shaking his head. "Sure."

Greenberg reached into his bag and handed it to her, biting into his cheek to suppress his laughter. She took it, looking down at the smiley face sticker that was sealing the plastic wrap. She unzipped one of the smaller pockets in her back pack, sliding it in.

Ryan smoothed down her sweater in the mirror, biting down on the inside of her cheek. It had been her moms sweater, and it wasn't really something she wore often. Before she could decide to change the doorbell rang, causing her to jump.

She ran down the stairs, her heel slipping on one of the steps near the bottom. She fell back on her ass, sliding down the last three stairs. She winced, jumping up and darting towards the door.

Ryan opened it, tucking her hair behind her ear and trying to hide the fact that she was breathing so hard. Isaac looked down at her, scratching his elbow nervously.

"Come in." Ryan tried to sound calm and collected, but she was freaking out on the inside. She stepped back, letting Isaac come inside and shutting the door. "I'm gonna make popcorn, just one question."

"Go for it."

"Do you like The Office?" Ryan asked, Isaac grinning at her.

"I love The Office." Isaac nodded, following her into the kitchen. He watched as she opened up the pantry and grabbed a bag of popcorn, moving over to the microwave. She opened the microwave and threw the bag in, pressing a few buttons and shutting it.

Ryan mentally smacked herself, not knowing why she felt so awkward. It was Isaac. Maybe she was just worried that if they actually hung out without having studying as an excuse, he would find her annoying.

"You okay?" Ryan turned around, giving Isaac a small nod and an awkward smile. For whatever reason, she felt really twitchy and uneasy. She actually felt a little sick. Ryan jumped when the microwave beeped, quickly turning around and pushing the stop button.

She pulled out the bag, hissing as it burned her hand and dropping it on the counter. Isaac stepped closer to her, placing his hands on her shoulders and turning around to face him. He gave her a concerned look, his eyes darting across her face.

His eyes drifted over her shoulder, widening and stepping around her to grab what he saw off of the counter.

"What?" Ryan asked, swallowing hard. Her mouth felt ridiculously dry, and she felt tingly all over. He held up the brownie she had gotten from Greenberg, his eyebrows raised. "Oh yeah, Greenberg gave that to me. He said his mom made it, but it was actually kind of gross."

"Oh my god." Isaac covered his mouth to stifle a laugh, looking down at the half eaten brownie and the smiley face sticker. "Ryan, this is a pot brownie."

"No it's not." Her eyes grew wide, Isaac nodding slowly. She shook her head, her hands running through her hair. "Oh my god."

"You need to calm down." Isaac threw the brownie in the trash, walking over and grabbing her shoulders again. "Okay? Because you're gonna get super paranoid and get really bad anxiety if you don't calm down."

"Can you overdose on weed?" She whispered, a look of pure panic on her face.

"Why don't we get you some water and up to bed?" He suggested, trying not to laugh at her. Greenberg had pulled the same prank of him freshman year, and he spent all of lacrosse practice freaking out in the locker room. "Okay?"

"Okay." She began to nod, not stopping until Isaac grabbed both sides of her head to stop her. She suddenly sucked in a sharp gasp, covering her mouth. "Don't tell Stiles, his dad is a cop."

"Ryan, you have the same dad."

"Oh my god, my dad is a cop." Ryan's voice came out in almost a squeak, her hand going to her chest as she began to hyperventilate. "I'm going to go to jail, or worse-I'm going to be grounded."

"Let's get you upstairs." He tried to gently push her towards the stairs, but she didn't budge. He though for a money before stepping in front of her, crouching down slightly. "Jump."

"What?" Ryan stared at his back, her eyes focused on the muscle definition showing through his long sleeve.

"Jump, I'm gonna give you a piggy back ride." This made her face light up, her arms circling around his neck and jumping slightly. She wrapped her legs around his waist and he stood up, grunting quietly. "Please don't puke on the back of my head."

"I didn't want to throw up before, but now I do." She mumbled, her forehead pressing against the nape of his neck. He felt goosebumps raise on his skin, forcing himself not to smile as he looped his arms around under her knees.

"Ready?" Isaac asked, feeling her forehead rub against him as she nodded. He walked towards the stairs, carefully walking up them and making sure he didn't drop her. He remembered which door was hers, nudging it open with his foot. Isaac walked over to the bed and turned around, letting go of her legs. "Okay."

He felt her let go, followed by the sound of Ryan's body falling back on the bed and a small 'oof' coming from her mouth. Bent down and opened the mini fridge, grabbing a bottle of water and turning around to look at her.

Ryan had rolled over and buried her face into her blankets, her body sprawled out on the mattress. Isaac sat on the edge of the bed, touching the cold water bottle to back of her neck. She made a small noise in response, making him chuckle as he set the water down.

"I'm gonna stay here until you fall asleep, is that okay?" Isaac asked, his hands falling into his lap. She made another noise in response, Isaac getting up and sitting in the desk chair.

It may not have been what he'd expected, but he wasn't complaining as long as he got to spend a little time with her.
