Lan QiRen frowned at XiChen in confusion. 'Why didn't you tell him that the little boy WangJi gave the drum too, turned out to be Wei WuXian?'

'He does not deserve to know that detail.'

'I see your point.' He looked around. 'What took you so long to step in?'

'I wanted to see how Wei WuXian would deal with an attack from within the Sect.'

'I agree.' He walked on only to stop and look back when his nephew had stopped. 'What?'

Master Lan let his himself remember as he told his nephew as he started another Empathy.

'Enter.' Lan Zhan called out at the knock on the door, even with Wei Ying sitting on his lap as they both read their own scroll.

'Wang ... WangJi, Wei WuXian ... please ... if you let anyone in ... please not in this state.'

'What?' Wei Ying frowned up at Master Lan only to realise the problem. 'Oh, sorry Master Lan.' He gently withdrew from his frowning lovers lap, but was only able to move to his side as the arm kept him close.

'Is there a problem uncle?'

'No ... it's just that I want to ask Wei WuXian if he will allow me to see his memories of his life here. Nothing personal between the pair of you .... I just want to know how you were while here.'

'I agree if it is alright with Wei Ying.' He smiled when he received twin shocked looks. 'I think uncle needs to see that your life here is not one of disrespect and disturbance.'

'Okay.' He looked at Master Lan as he sat beside him.

'I just do not understand. Why do you have two faces with people?'

'Two faces?'

'Yes. You have shown me this yourself. On one hand you will show people that annoyingly noisy, over active, arrogant face but then you switch to a polite, quiet, respectful face who will not break any of our rules. Which is the real you Wei WuXian?'

'I see your problem Master Lan but .... They are both me. I can be quite and respectful when the situation calls for it, but on the other hand I can be childish, loud, over active, disobedient and wilful. Just because I am both, does not mean I am lying about one side of me. Think of it as two sides of the same coin. When you were young, were you always this reserved, quiet, well behaved man you are now .... Please remember before you answer that question, I have known you for so many years and you have told me many things about your childhood.'

'What?'

'Well, the man who cares for his sect now is not the same as the young boy who would run around the town with his brother to see what was happening. The young man who ran away from the sect when he was eighteen to travel and see the land while he cultivated is not the same man who walked back into the Cloud Recesses one year later with as much respect as ever. The man who will sit with his friends of other sects and raise a toast is not the same man who fervently adheres to each and every rule of the Cloud Recesses while he is here ... but you do not have two faces and you are not lying about who you are. 'Yes. The truth is you had been bed ridden for a month and you seemed to need someone to talk to. I willingly listened to every single detail of your life.'

'There is no way I told you so much.'

'I will tell you everything you told me one day Master Lan ... but only between the two of us. You made me swear never to tell anyone many of the things you told me and I have never broken that oath.'

'You never even told WangJi?'

'Never. He understood that there are some things that an uncle didn't want a nephew to know about him.'

End of Empathy.

'The young man puts on a face of indifference to rules and disrespect of everyone, but ... I was shown the young man's memories and he did live his life here and after a short time, never broke a rule. 'So you will not be at all surprised if I said I had already gotten the red outfits for the pair? They arrived this morning.'

'I would be more surprised if you said you didn't have them at hand because I know how much you dote on him.' He sighed. 'You might want to have Wei WuXian's sect robes made also.'

'Yes, I have them in mind already so after their wedding, he will wear the white Cloud Recesses robes but with black and red trim for the cloud emblem on his forehead ribbon for the first year then just the normal GusuLan Sect robes after that.'

'Wait, will he be willing to wear the robes. Even after so many years, in both lives, he never wore Jiang Sect robes.'

'I never thought of that ... I wonder why he stayed in black.'
