SIXTY
Carrington Hill
Few weeks later
So, my brother had a girlfriend. For over two months and mum, Harrison and I only found out about it when we officially met her for the first time at Christmas. She was lovely, very shy which made her the complete opposite of my brother, but she was really nice. We hit it off right away although I could tell she found me too much. Me, my mother and my brother. Lesley had to tell me to back off, like, twice when he introduced her to us because I was so excited it intimidated her.
It was so weird to see my brother with someone who he cared for so deeply but also really nice because he deserved the happiness this girl was giving him. Seeing them together made me miss Harry so much more than I already did so when it was finally time for us to get home, I couldn't wait to land in England.
We flew back to Manchester, where Harry was waiting for us at the airport. He had Dale with him who was obviously in presence to keep him safe in case anything happened. My mother was the first one who hugged him, since my boyfriend quite literally went in for a cuddle first. Then it was Harrison, who could barely keep his eyes opened and finally, me.
"Welcome home, babe," he grinned at me once I pulled away from our hug. I lifted my arms around his neck with the ends of my scarf in my hands so when he kissed me, it worked as a wall around us.
His lips felt like heaven. They were soft and warm, his scent filled my nose and lungs as I inhaled him. I sighed into his mouth when he pulled back, my eyes flickered up to him and I smiled, widely, as his green irises stared back at me. He looked a bit different, to be fair it was probably his hair, which was almost as short as it was in Dunkirk. Then again, it might have been as short.
"I missed you so much, bub," I told him as my cheeks heated up under his gaze, my bottom lip was caught between my teeth as I properly lowered my weight back on my feet.
"I missed you lots and lots," a grin spread across his face then kissed my forehead. "Alright, let's get going," he said after his eyes discreetly looked around and he took a hold of my hand.
Dale had my mother's and brother's suitcases while Harry was pulling mine. Harrison wasn't feeling too good, poor kid swallowed some kinda virus while we were in the US. Once we got out of the airport, we got in a black van, with tinted windows and everything. The chauffeur put our stuff in the back while us four got in the car and Dale sat at the front. Harry and I were sitting facing the front while mum and Harrison were backwards, my brother laid out flat on the seats, his head on our mum's lap.
"Are you coming back to ours?" I asked Harry quietly once we were on the motorway on the way home. Mum and Harrison fell back to sleep, at least both of them had their eyes closed.
"Yeah," he answered, his lips pressed against my forehead as I cuddled up to his side. "My car's there and everything. I kinda lived in your house, you know," he chuckled lowly and I smiled at what he said. Surely, mum asked him if he could look after the dogs while we were away and even though Harry was a really busy man, he said yes.
"What did Caitlin say to you taking the dogs with you when you had a photoshoot in town?" I asked him because he never told me about it. He only facetimed me for a little while that day asking me if it was alright and then later on when the shoot was happening. Also, he had to be in London at times, but when he was free, he always stayed the night at mine.
"She wasn't that bothered, to be honest," he answered. I hummed. She better not have been because if she has a problem with my dogs then imma have a problem with her, too. "My mum loves Leo though. She barely wanted to let him go this morning," Harry told me and I giggled.
"Don't let me forget that I have to get a card for your mum and some flowers or something."
"What for?"
"She looked after my dogs while I was on the other side of the world. I assume she's a very busy woman and she took the time out of her day to babysit them. The least I can do is get her a card and flowers."
"Well, what about me?" he asked, offended. I laughed quietly as I pulled away and looked up at him. He puckered his lips, forehead in creases as he waited for me to answer me.
"I suppose you can get flowers and a card, too," I said and he smiled, satisfied with my reply. "But you have to wait until tomorrow, too tired now," was what ended our conversation for the rest of the ride home.
I kind of dozed off in the car and so I only woke up when we got home. Dale took all of our suitcases in and while him and Harry sorted whatever out, we were warmly welcomed by Anne and Lily in the kitchen. We were welcomed with hugs from both of them and then mum excused herself and my brother as they went upstairs to get Harrison in bed. He might have been eighteen years of age but he was still a little baby.
"How come you guys are here?" I asked them with a little smile as I took a seat at the dining table. I rubbed my eyes with the heel of my palm and yawned since I was exhausted.
"Thought we'd welcome you guys in a warm home with some food and a cup of tea or something. Long flights are exhausting and getting back can be really tough," Anne explained. I smiled at her. She's honestly so thoughtful and an overall amazing woman.
"That's really sweet of you," I replied, another yawn escaping my lips. "You really shouldn't have, I mean, you guys live a bit away and now you'll have to travel all the way back to Holmes Chapel."
"We're staying in a hotel tonight and then we'll be going back tomorrow," she told me. "And honestly, dear, we insisted on coming over and turning on the heater and such. We also couldn't just leave the dogs on their own."
"Talking about the dogs, where are they?" I asked curiously. I noticed how quiet it was in the house when we got in.
"Both are sleeping in their little bags in the living room near the couch," Lily said as she sat opposite to me. Harry and my mum walked in the kitchen at the same time, my mum hugging Anne who was waiting for her with widely open arms. "Is your brother okay, Carrie?"
"Why do you care?" Harry asked smugly as he took a seat at the head of the table. Lily rolled her eyes as her brother nudged her. "Fancy the youngest Hill or somet?"
"Shut the hell up, mong," she murmured although they were both just messing. Harry smirked as he looked at me and they both waited for my answer.
"He's not been feeling well, caught something in LA which wasn't the greatest way to end of the year but he managed, bless him," I told her and she nodded. During this, the burning feeling of my boyfriend's eyes made my skin tingle and the need to look back at him was eating at me. So, when I finally let my gaze fall on him, it was only a matter of seconds until I decided to stand up and sit on his lap then hug him tightly.
He giggled as his arms wrapped around me and he nuzzled his face in my shoulder. Again, his familiar scent filled my senses as I cuddled further into him, his body warmth made me relax and also really sleepy. His hand was gently caressing my back which felt good and I enjoyed it with my eyes closed.
"Carrington?" I heard my name called by someone, I wasn't too sure who since I was in a sleepy daze so I wasn't fully awake but I wasn't entirely asleep either. "Darling?"
"I'll take her up to her room, it's fine," this time, I could clearly tell it was Harry who spoke because I felt his voice through his chest as he spoke. Plus, he had a deep speaking voice therefore it only could have been him. "Whoopsie daisy," he mumbled as he stood up with me in his arms and whacked his leg in something because I heard something move loudly. Dang, my mans is strong.
My hold tightened around his neck and I nuzzled my face more into the crook of his neck. My lips touched the chain of his necklace since I was so close to him. I sort of guessed when we got to my room, because he had a bit of trouble getting through the door which was closed.
"Babe, we're upstairs," he mumbled in my ear, his hand on the back of my head as his fingers curled in and delicately massaged my head. I hummed in response and he chuckled quietly which made me pull away from him and rub my eyes tiredly.
"I got you a present," I mumbled as I sat down on my bed. The thought came to me randomly and it was probably the most unexpected thing Harry heard coming from me in that moment.
"That's amazing, baby, but you need sleep," he said as he pushed me down onto my pillow then pulled my quilt out from under me. I made sure to keep my legs down on it as hard as I could so he couldn't get it out fully. "Stop being stubborn," he said as he finally snatched it properly and threw it on top of me.
"I wanna give it to you," I pouted.
He sighed and looked at me for a little bit longer than usual. I knew he was going to give in, which made my smile widen as I sat up and clapped a little. Once he was told to get me my new designer bag, he smirked at me and did what he was asked to.
"Look at my girl and her new Gucci bag, eh?" he teased me and I rolled my eyes as I yawned. "I wasn't even the one who bought it for you. Which makes me sad."
"Well, my dad was one step ahead of you," I said. "Anyways. I got you a few little bits. They don't have much behind them in terms of price, it's more like, yanno, thoughtful presents."
"Is that supposed to be shade towards me, or something?" he asked, curiously yet it was clear he was just joking.
"Well, unless you bought me stuff just cos it was expensive and wanted to wow me then yes, it definitely was," I decided to say as I unzipped my bag. It was a mess, honestly. Everything just thrown into it and nothing was even wrapped. "Right, so, I didn't wrap anything for a couple of reasons. One being the fact that I had to bring them over security checks and shit, and two, which is probably the main reason, I just couldn't be arsed."
"Fair enough," he nodded.
"Okay, first things first, I'm the realest."
"Oh, shut it. That song is older than you."
"I got you..." I said as I waited for the tension to build. But it never came. So, I gave up and whipped out the first item. "I got you this lip balm. The reason why is because the packaging is green. And you look like a little frog. And in most cases, frogs are green. Also, you tend to have chapped lips. Plus, it's winter. You need to hydrate them lips, don't you? So here you go."
"Here you are with me looking like a frog. Again," he sighed, dramatically, as he took the item from my hand. "Thank you, baby, I needed lip balm anyway."
"That's alright," I patted his cheeks a little, which felt soft and warm. It made me smile. "Next thing."
"How many things have you gotten me?" he chuckled.
"Well, I spent almost four weeks in Los Angeles, I had enough time to look around and randomly find things that reminded me of you," I shrugged as I explained myself. Through it all, I felt his gaze on me as I was busy looking through my bag for the next thing. When I lifted my head up and looked at him, he leaned closer and kissed me which took me by surprise. "What was that for?"
"Just realised how long you actually have been away from me. I missed you so much," he confessed and I quite literally melted into a puddle of whatever.
"Aw," I looked at him softly, feeling ever so loved and happy. "I missed you too."
"Facetime honestly did not give back just how gorgeous you are," he rambled on and I felt my cheeks turn pink at his compliment. My eyes shifted to the side a little as a giggle left my lips, butterflies in my stomach and all. "Anyway, carry on, please."
I huffed. How the hell was I meant to get my shit together after he just told me that? No one ever really complimented me in a way that he did. Whatever he said just meant a shit ton to me, in general, actually, so this wasn't any different then.
"Alright," I said after a couple of long breaths which sounds way over dramatic, but when a fine ass man like my boyfriend showers you in compliments, it's a task and a half to get over it. "I got you this cute little key chain because I know just how obsessed you are with your boots. And it's gold. With diamonds in it. Therefore, it literally screams 'Harry Styles'," I explained.
"I love that, thank you," he smiled as he took it in his hands and examined the key chain. "Thank you, darling," he said again, his lips pecked mine softly and his hand gently brushed my knee.
"That's alright," I said happily. The sight of him being all giddy and grinning made my heart flutter and fill with a mixture happiness and love and then it hit me like a storm once there was no more empty space in me to fill. "I, uh, also got you some slippers. Really soft ones, comfy ones. Like, you can't stop stroking them soft, but they are in my suitcase."
"Don't worry bout it, we'll get it in the morning," he said with a lazy smile. "I'm happy you got me these, I really like them. Really thoughtful."
"Yeah, I try my best," my cheeks heated up a little as I closed my bad and placed it on the floor next to my bed. "I can't exactly get you designer stuff just like that, so, um, you have to wait a bit for something, I don't know, more expensive, but I will get there, eventually."
"No, that's really not necessary, love," he told me right away. Obviously, I expected that because he's just like me. Sometimes, it made me wonder how we got along so well. "I'm more than fine-, bloody grateful when you get me little things like these. They mean the world. They come from your heart and you put effort into it, I love these."
"I'm really happy you say that because I always get so nervous in case you don't like something and then you just pretend, or whatever," I told him honestly. Giving presents was a big deal for me all the time, sometimes I even put it off and just went along with what was happening by saying my gift is also what my mother or father gave to someone. It made me well anxious and I couldn't help it sometimes.
"I love you so much you don't even know."
"I love you so much, you don't even know," I grinned and he bobbed my nose as he leaned in and kissed me.
I hummed against him and breathed him in. My hands locked around his neck and pulled him down, his body settled between my legs and I felt his stomach on mine. I felt his ribs, his body warmth, the scent of his perfume mixed with his shower gel and it all made my head go crazy. His lips so warm and soft, they fit so well against and between mine that it made me think whether they were made for me or if we were just a pretty neat match.
