EIGHTY FIVE

Harry Styles

Carrington ended up taking a pregnancy test for both of our peace of mind. The test came back negative which seemed to have put her out of her stressed state. I wouldn't have said the same for me but would have described my situation as kind of upset.

I was upset.

A family with Carrington was on top of my list therefore if she would have been pregnant, I would have been the happiest man alive. With her, it was very much like in the movies. The minute we met, something clicked in my brain and knew right away that she'd be mine one day and stay that way forever. She really was everything anyone could have ever looked for and she was my force to be reckoned with.

I guess her not being ready for a family yet was something that I should have seen coming way before the conversation even sparked up between us. Her career only just started to blossom, really. Sure, she had her name out there to an extent but that was simply as a dancer. Now she was a rather wanted teacher, too. On top of that, she was asked – on many occasions actually – to attend competitions and judge the dancers. According to her, that was a really important job and not many young dancers and teachers like herself got that opportunity.

I was truly proud of her. Everything she had achieved not just from the moment we had gotten together, but way before that too, was admirable. Personally, I never really took dancers seriously... well, their job. Which is ridiculous coming from me – a model. No one takes models seriously, either. Well, unless they are very well known because then they do get the respect we all deserve. Once I met Carrington, I came to the realisation that it was the exact same in her career, too.

Unless you had your name out there, you were not really important.

Now, seeing as she only just got to something good in her life, it wouldn't have made sense for her to stop and I had to understand that. And also wait for her to be ready for a baby. Forcing her into this was not something I ever planned on doing, I wanted this if she wanted it. Growing a family took two of us and nothing but pure happiness and excitement.

That was why house hunting was the right step for us.

"What did you really think of that house?" I questioned her once we got back in my car. We took my Mercedes this time, the one I got myself for my birthday, because I was getting the tires changed anyway to match the exterior of the car. As of then, the rims were just normal silver but I wanted them black.

Carrie let out a long hum which gave away the fact that she wasn't a fan. "I believe there are better houses."

"You're so hard to please," I teased her which resulted in a whack to my shoulder. It wasn't a strong punch because it wasn't meant to be. "What did you not like about it?"

"It just didn't feel right," she told me. That reasoning was for every place we went to see. Sure, they were gorgeous and I noticed my fiancé liking them but there wasn't a spark in her eyes when she looked around. She liked it because it wasn't ugly but she didn't like it enough to picture herself – us – living there. "What did you think?"

"I liked the heated pool outside a lot, actually," I told her one of my favourite things about the house. It was quite big. Five guest bedrooms with a bathroom to each plus the master with another bathroom was already a massive place to live in. The kitchen was double the size – if not triple – of the one we had right now, not to mention the double living room and there was also a three-door garage. That kind of would have been a problem for us, seeing as just I had four cars. "Space wise on the inside it was nice, quite big but it didn't really feel homey."

"I didn't think so," she commented. "I liked the kitchen because it was big but perhaps too big for two people."

"Reckon it was the size that made it feel so distant, no? Like, all the rooms were fine but I just felt like the downstairs living room was too wide and the ceilings were too high."

"Yes. Same. I did notice the high ceilings. I kind of liked it but it made me feel like I was in a very posh environment. Probably not something I'd want when I'm having a lazy day home. Can I say it was uncomfortable?"

"I see what you mean," I nodded along. My left hand rested on top of her jean covered thigh, my fingers between her legs a little bit as she was busy giving her attention to the screen of her phone. "What you looking at?"

Carrington giggled and it caused my lips to pull into a smile whilst curiosity also filled me. "I've been eyeing this one place quite a lot lately."

"Have you now?" I chuckled and slowly stopped the car when we pulled up at a red light. I took my chances and leaned closer to her, my lips attached to her soft cheek all whilst inhaling her gorgeous scent. She always wore the nicest smelling perfumes and they suited her so much if that was even a thing.

"Yeah but it's quite a lot," she said shyly.

"Test me," a grin spread across my lips as I checked the time on my phone. Just another half an hour until we had to be at the car shop.

"Sixteen."

"Million?" I turned my head towards her just in time to see that she nodded. "That's not too bad, you know. Especially for it to be in London."

"I think that's a bit expensive but for eight rooms, nine bathrooms, a massive backyard and a pool it isn't too bad, right?"

"No. Definitely not bad. It's London as well," I reasoned. "Do you want to have a look at it? We could book a viewing for tomorrow or something."

"Oh my god. Can we?" she asked me excitedly. Her sudden change of mood caused me to laugh and I nodded as the lights turned green.

"Of course, baby."

"Yes! Thank you! Oh my god, I'm so excited for this!" she laughed and my heart fluttered at just how happy that one thing made her. She was buzzing to see this place and I really hoped it wasn't going to let either of us, but especially her, down.

*

The viewing was booked for today. Carrington couldn't even sleep last night, she was that excited. When we booked a time slot to view the house, I didn't even bother looking at the photos online. She loved it so much just based on online pictures and she spoke so excitedly about it that I felt like I didn't need to. I didn't want to. The images she painted in my brain of the house were enough.

And then we got there and everything she told me and was tattooed into my brain was just... there. Right in front of me. The brick walls, the black fence, the white windows, the garage house next to the actual house. It just seemed perfect.

"Wow," Carrington's mouth quite literally dropped open after we both got out of the car, this time around we took the Range. I swirled the car keys around my index finger before I clasped them in the palm of my hand and pushed my fingers through my hair. "When are we signing the papers?"

A loud laugh erupted from my mouth as I placed my hand on the back of her head and pulled her closer to kiss her temple. "Whenever you're ready, pretty girl."

"This lady needs to hurry up, I wanna get inside," she told me a little too eagerly. Her arms were on the brick part of the fence as she leaned on them and admired the house from the outside. She was so obsessed with it and there was no doubt in my mind that we were going to end up getting this place. None of the ones we have viewed before this got her feeling quite this pumped to move, somehow, she always brought up how the penthouse was so much better.

Then, no later than five to ten minutes, an Audi pulled up next to the curb, just behind my car and a man, close to my age, stepped out in a suit. Hair gelled into place, face clean shaved, defined facial features and a rather strong cologne helped us to conclude he was a very professional estate agent.

We expected a lady to welcome us so that was a surprise.

"Hello, I'm Carter Jones," he walked up to us as he buttoned the top button of his blazer. His cologne blocked my nose to the point where that was the only thing I could smell. It was nice but definitely overpowering.

"Harry Styles," I extended my arm for him to take and shake which he did with a very large grin on his face. It caused his extremely white teeth to appear and if we would have been in a movie, I was sure it would have had that effect put on it to make it shine.

"Carrington Hi-, Styles," my fiancé had done same thing I did although what she said shocked me a little more than it should have. She called herself Carrington Styles before but somehow, hearing her saying it then and there just made me feel really excited. And happy.

Definitely happy.

Her name with my surname sounded perfect.

She was perfect.

"Wonderful to meet you two," he spoke. "Let's get inside, shall we?"

He was not here to waste his time, that much I sensed right from the start. This Carter was here to make money and rightfully so. He was informed on stuff, for every question we asked he had given us a fulfilling answer. It all seemed to be too good to be true.

"Now, the only thing that may be a problem is that you wouldn't be able to move in for about a month," he spoke up once we reached the kitchen. And there it was.

"Why is that?" I asked curiously as Carrie was busy looking through the cabinets and looking out the window of the kitchen. She was mesmerised and the funny thing was, it didn't even surprise me.

"As of right now, there is no water or electricity in the house. The kitchen had been completely done up after the first and only owners moved however due to miscommunication between the staff involved, they somehow messed up the water and electricity."

"Was this stated on the website?" the question was unnecessary. When I looked at it, they didn't mention it and that was annoying. I didn't understand why they advertised this place if we couldn't move in right away.

"Unfortunately, no. Usually, our clients cannot move in right away as we do carry out a risk assessment of sorts just to ensure that everything is safe and secure to be used, anyway. Most of these homes stand unused for months and even years therefore it is important for us to ensure we avoid any unhappy customers," Carter explained. He was a smooth talker, always had a way to save his arse from everything. I guess he had to be that way in order to make money and to keep his job.

"Ah, right," I nodded. "And fixing all of that takes around a month?"

"Taking into consideration that there are things that you may want removed and perhaps replaced with your own as well as properly closing the deal, yes. It is quite lengthy and thirty days are required just in case something happens and things run over."

"Mhm. Could you perhaps get that checked? Just to see how long it would actually take to fix the problems and if they will ever get done," I said. Although he was very professional and good with words, it didn't quite win me over. If anything, it just made me look out for him even more. Which wasn't a bad thing seeing as he had a thing for my wife. I did notice the little glances he took whenever she was out of his sight but I trusted him enough to believe that he wouldn't pull a move. "So, what do you reckon?" my arms linked around her waist as I walked up behind her. It seemed to have scared her a little bit as she jumped from the sudden contact and she giggled.

"I love it, Harry," she told me with a bright smile. Carrington turned around in my arms and placed her hands on my chest. "The kitchen is kinda... ehh but nothing we can't get fixed. Then again, I might come to love how grey it is."

"I agree. What did you think of the master? I love that the first floor could just be ours."

"Yes. Definitely. The three guest rooms on the second floor could be used and then the two on the first floor could be made into offices or something and then it would definitely be our floor."

"So, there is one thing," I told her which made her eyebrows furrow. "Just been told that we wouldn't be able to move in right away. We'd have to wait a month."

"That's fine," she smiled, completely unfazed by what I had said. I thought it would have bothered her. "If we are getting this place, it will be ours. No one else's. I understand that there's paperwork to be done and whatever else. Not to mention that we need at least a month to buy the basic things for this place. I don't want the couches in here, the beds need to go because I'm not sleeping in the same bed as a stranger have done before me," she rambled on and I couldn't help the giggle that left my mouth.

"Okay. I guess you are right. I see how that one month could work in our favour."

"I'm so so excited to go furniture shopping!" she squeaked. "Do you like this place? Do you see yourself living here? Please, be honest."

Carter disappeared by that point as he had a phone call to take, I assumed it was about what I asked him to do. If he wanted to sell me this property, I was going to need him to do his job and find shit out for me. I wasn't about to drop sixteen million pounds on a house that my wife and I couldn't even live in.

"Just seeing how excited you are to live in this house, made me want it more. Honestly, baby, as long as I get to live under the same roof as you, we could be anywhere."

"Stop," she giggled and blushed slightly as the words rolled off my tongue. I smiled and leaned down to kiss her on the lips. It was my favourite thing to do. "We could get a grill for outside and some garden furniture and we could get the fam to come over and have a housewarming party or something. We'll have the space now, Haz. We can host freaking parties! Inside or outside or both!"

"We most certainly could," I grinned happily. This was making her so happy and excited. Probably the most excited I had seen her in a while. Owning a house with me made her go this crazy and that made me love her even more. Her love for me was the same as my love for her.

We were crazy for each other and I wouldn't have changed that for anything.

After Carter came back, we sat down and talked about this water and electricity situation. He said the one-month period still stood, there was nothing he could do about it. He told us the faults would be changed in time to get rid of the furniture we didn't want and also carry out the safety checks. Once that was ok with Carrington and I, we moved onto the most important part of it all.

Payment.

We didn't have a joint account although perhaps that would have been the best. We really didn't think we would be putting a deposit down on the house right away but with the pressure that Carter put on us – especially on my girl – I knew the only way we would ever leave that house that day would be without one million six hundred thousand pounds in one of our bank accounts.

Did it feel kind of rushed? Possibly.

Was it a lot of money to be giving out after one visit? Definitely.

But did I think it was worth it? Oh, absolutely.

It was a one-time opportunity for us to get this place. It was very well surrounded by everything yet it was still kind of isolated from everything. The neighbourhood seemed really nice, it was rather secure with the gate system that we had to come through earlier at the bottom of the road. Like Carter said, this place had been done up after the first and only owner lived here for five months and that also justified the price of the place.

On top of all of this, it made Carrington very, very happy and that made me very happy. She could see us living here, she already had ideas and plans which made her excited. I could see us living here although my imagination didn't quite fly as far as hers did. I was more concerned about these faults that needed to be fixed although I couldn't lie – it felt like home.

That's why it didn't matter how much it cost.

Well, it did. But not to the point where I refused to pay the deposit.

Carter said no one else was interested in the house as of right now and considering how ecstatic we were to own it, he – kind of illegally – skipped the part where we were meant to put an offer in. He did talk to his boss and they didn't seem to have a problem with it which was sort of confusing but then he told us that happens sometimes and there was nothing to worry about. The paperwork, however, didn't stop there. So many papers and signatures later, my stomach felt empty and it didn't stop growling. Before we bid each other goodbye, I asked for Carter's phone number so my lawyer could be in touch with him to further discuss legal issues and whatnot.

"I can't believe we're doing this," I laughed as I pulled up behind another car. We were on our way to get some lunch because we were both starved. My lawyer was actually free so he had time to sit down with Carter whilst we were out getting food so that as soon as we were done, the deposit could be sorted.

"Same here," Carrie said happily. "This is crazy. I never would have thought this morning that we will be actually doing this."

"Do you reckon I did? I genuinely didn't think I'd wanna move my shit in right away."

Carrington squealed and I didn't even bother keeping my laughter in. She was so hype about this and so was I. We were getting our first place together together. The penthouse will always be ours but this house – this home – will be so much more different.

This was going to be the start of something new. Perhaps a new chapter we didn't even plan on starting right now but it was okay. It was okay because I had her and she had me – we had each other.

At the end of the day, that was all that mattered.
