Chapter 32

Erisha stood there in shock, the phone still at her ear.

'What happened? The boyfriend needs you?'
Treyton asked sarcastically.

'No! No!'
Erisha shook her head, unaware of anything but what her grandfather had said.

'What did he want? Is he coming back to spend the night with you?'
Treyton was working himself back into a fury thinking about it, when he realised that Erisha wasn't responding to him.
He saw her step back, shaking her head.
'Erisha?'
When she didn't reply again, Treyton walked up to her, and caught her shoulder.
'Erisha!'

'Hunh?'
The look she had on her face, was blank, and at the same time fearful.

'Erisha! What's wrong?'
Treyton frowned, shaking her slightly.

'What?'
She looked at him, as if just realising he was still there.

'What has happened? Tell me!'

'No! No! What will I do? What if he.. No! I..I have to go..'
Erisha caught his hands to move them away from her bare shoulders.

'Go where?'
Treyton had never seen her like this, as if she was about to break down.
'Erisha! For the love of God, tell me what's going on!'

'Nanna!'

'KK?'
Treyton frowned even more.
'What happened to him?'
He suddenly thought of something.
'Who was that on the phone? Someone telling you about KK?'

'No! It was Nanna himself!'
Erisha whispered. She suddenly made up her mind about something, and as he watched, she squared her shoulders, and moved away from him.
'And please, if you could leave now..I have to go somewhere..'

'Go somewhere? At this time? Where?'
Treyton couldn't make any sense out of her ramblings.

'Look! You came here for whatever reason, but you should go now.'
She gestured to the door, then walked towards it.
She opened it when she reached there, and gave him a pointed look.

Treyton walked over to her, and taking the handle of the door from her hand, closed it shut.
'I'm not going anywhere, until you tell me what in the world is going on!'
His voice was raised.

'Treyton! Please..'
Erisha pleaded, avoiding his gaze.

Treyton caught hold of her chin, and made her look at him.
'No!'
He softened his tone.
'You are clearly worried about something. Please, tell me! Maybe I can help..hey! No, no!'
He saw a tear leave her eye, and he wiped it with his thumb.

Erisha looked at him, and saw genuine concern in his eyes.
That was her undoing, and suddenly, so that even he was stunned, she put her arms around his waist and hugged him, her head resting over his chest.

Treyton was surprised, but he put his arms around her shoulders.
The feel of her against his chest felt so good, and he found that a bit crazy.
He heard a sniffle, and shut his eyes briefly.
What are you even thinking about at this time?
'Erisha!'
His voice was soft, and soothing.
He ran a hand down her back, and as she copied him, her hands touching his hips, he mentally groaned at how that was arousing him.

Erisha felt his arms go around her, and to her it felt as if she was safe.
Until realisation dawned.
Her eyes which had shut themselves as she had heard his reassuring heartbeat, now flew open as it picked pace, and his hands began to  stroke her back.
The air shifted, with her heart also beating rapidly.
Focus, Erisha! Focus!
As suddenly as she had launched herself in his arms, she moved out of them, his hands still in mid air.
'I'm sorry..I..'

I'm not!
His mind replied.
'It's okay..please tell me what happened to make you react this way. What happened to KK?'

'He's..'
She paused, wondering if she should tell him or not.

Her hesitance convinced him that there was something she was trying to hide.
'Is he sick? In the hospital?'

'N..Uhmm..yeah, maybe..he didn't sound too good..I have to go..'
She had to make him leave.

'Okay!'
Treyton moved to open the door.
'Come on! I'll take you..and see him myself too..'

'NO!'
Her refusal was too quick, and Treyton looked at her with suspicion.
'I mean..it's alright! I'll go on my own..you must be busy..'

'What is it that you are hiding?'
He narrowed his eyes as she avoided his gaze.

'N..nothing! Actually, I'll go get out of this dress..'
She blushed at the look he gave her at that.
'I meant, I'll just go and change..can't go running around like this..'
Erisha wished he would just go away, so she could concentrate.
His presence was unnerving her greatly.
And the way his eyes travelled from her polished toenails, up her waist to rest on her breasts, her mind was getting addled.

'Depends on where you are running..or let's say who you are running to dressed looking like this..'
His voice became husky, as an image of her running to him filled his brain.
He stepped forward again, but she stepped back.

'I..I'll let you know how Nanna is when I see him..you go on home..'
Please! Just leave!

Treyton looked at her for another minute, before he nodded.
'Alright..do let me know if you need anything. It's the least I can do for KK..'

'Yeah, sure..'
Erisha quickly nodded, and almost shuffled him out, before shutting the door.

I hope I have convinced him enough..
Erisha thought, as she rushed to her room to change into a pair of jeans and tee. Her thoughts were jumbled, as she quickly tied her hair in a ponytail.
Did I do the right thing not telling him? What if he could have really helped her with Nanna?
No, Erisha! It's true I had gone to seek his help earlier, but he's already enemies with David..what if David found out that I was with Treyton in this?
What would he do with Nanna?
No! No! She couldn't think like that..

'I just hope he hasn't done anything to Nanna!'

With a prayer, and hope for the best, Erisha put on a jacket, and lifting the keys to her Harley, hurried out the door.

***************************

Treyton watched from the shadows, where he had parked his car, his gaze fixed on the door to Erisha's building.

There's definitely something off! With the way she had almost thrown him out, okay, maybe not thrown, but made him leave like that, her behaviour had been anything but normal..
Why so secretive if KK was indeed in hospital?

Coming down the elevator from her apartment, Treyton's mind had been in a whirl. And as he had reached his car, he had been glad that he had dropped his driver on the way over.
Taking off his suit jacket and tie, Treyton had raised his shirt sleeves up his arms, and now waited in his car.
'Where is she...'
Just as he spoke, he saw the door to her building open, and he straightened up.
Starting his car, he suddenly realised that it hadn't been her, and as he shook his head, the sound of a machine reached him.
Just as it dawned, a Harley came out from behind the building.
'Bingo!'

As Erisha rode to the end of her street, Treyton followed.
For once, he was glad that he had more than one car, and this black sedan was one she hadn't seen.
He saw her look left and right before she headed onto the main road.
Following discreetly, he wondered why she hadn't trusted him enough to tell him anything.
You have ignored her ever since you slept with her..what did you expect, that she would receive you with open arms?
Besides..you are still angry with her for lying to you..so what does it matter?
Yeah! That's why you rushed to her place as soon as you saw her with another man tonight..
Where's the control you are famous for, Treyton?

Treyton was so lost in his thoughts, that he almost missed her take a turn in the opposite direction of the city's hospital.
'I knew it! She's not going to any hospital! Another lie! Dammit!'
He hit the steering wheel with his palm in frustration.
But he was more surprised, when she headed towards where the offices of The Huber Company were located.
'So..it was David calling..and she came running! What a liar!'
Treyton was highly annoyed now, wishing he could turn around and go home.
But something compelled him to see for himself, to what extent she could go.

***************************

Erisha neared David's office building, instinct leading her there.
If Nanna was in trouble, where would he likely to be?
Erisha knew her grandfather stayed in this building only; Steven had let that out once by mistake.
Since then, that worry had been laid to rest, that he was living in some place she didn't know about.
This was the first place to check things, and although she had been here hundreds of times, she had never been allowed to meet her grandfather.

Right now, the building was in darkness, except for a couple of lights near the front entrance, where a security guard was present.

'Damn! I didn't think of that! How will I get in to check?'

Erisha rode by him, as if she was a regular passerby, noticing that the guard was sitting in a chair, alert.
She quickly rounded the building, trying to find a shady area to park her machine in.
She found a space a street away from the building, glad that some trees lined it.
Taking off her helmet, she took a look around the place.
At this time of the night, shops and businesses were closed, just the fronts of the buildings lit up.
She saw a couple more security guards in front of the other places as well, and sighed.
I hope I can get inside without anyone catching me..

She quickly crossed the street and placed herself flat against the wall, her heart thudding in her chest. She didn't want to come in view of the security cameras that were bound to be placed everywhere, so she peeked from the corner, and saw the guard get up and start pacing the floor.
Damn! Maybe I should try the back entrance..
She moved across the width of the building till the end wall, and peeked out the same way she had from the front.
The street this side was empty, and she sighed in relief.
Keeping herself still flat against the wall, she had taken only a couple of steps, when she felt something hard and metallic push against her back.

'Freeze!'

To be continued...
