Chapter 3
It was another morning . Just another day, another beginning. Jane looked around her surroundings, and noticed the mailbox overflowing with mail. She blink a few times, before tightening her grip on the strap of her backpack and stared at one of the letters that accidentally landed on the concrete floor, beside the mailbox. Yesterday's event was ignored by the girl. She was slowly getting used to these sudden events, and was tired of showing a crying face. Small drops of tears sat loosely on the edges of her eyelashes. Jane did not want for them to fall, and rubbed her eyes angerly. She stared at the letter on the floor, and read the address of the letter. Her eyes widened once she noticed the date it was sent was since the summer vacation. She quickly grabbed the letter, and ripped it open.

Dear Jane,
This might sound sudden, but I kinda got arrested yesterday. When the police found out that I hacked the government's system to gain detailed information about the "Scales Of Ares." Sadly, as you can tell I did not get anything, and found myself behind iron bars. I might stay in here for a while. Hope things are good with you! How is your ankle?
Your friend,
Nathan Swift

The girl's hand shivered. The whole summer she and her parents have went back to Okinawa, that she never even had the chance to hear about anyone. That is when her thoughts snapped back to the last two days. Nathan had not spoken to her when they practiced with Mark, Axel, Jude, and David. She felt really guilty. Even though Nathan was in jail for most of the summer, he was worried about her silly, injured ankle from the FFI. She pulled her phone out of her pocket, but slowly placed it back. The boy was obviously mad she thought as the small paper crumbled in her hand. She shoved the letter into her bag and did the same with the others.
Once the job was done, she stood up, and dashed to Royal- Academy. Apparently, David called informing her of a very important meeting. Jane only had five minutes left. The girl kept glancing at her watch every few seconds and straightening her headband as she ran.
"Just a little more! Just a little!" She pleaded, leaving a trail of dust behind her, it even seemed as if steam was going to pop out to of her ears any second.
Every step she was filled with desperateness. Why? Well who would not, after being late three times in a row? She dashed through the gates of the academy, and speeded down the deserted hallways. Her loud footsteps echoed loudly, until it suddenly came to a stop. Right in front of her stood the large metal doors to the club room, even though it looked more like a military base. She stared at her green jersey for a few minutes and sighed. It felt good to be back in Royal's football team. Her hands slowly reached for the handle, and she opened the door with a plain smile on her face. Once she stepped into the room, everyone's attention turned towards her. Feeling a little embaressed, Jane scratched the back of her neck awkwardly, with a light blush on her face.
"You actually came earlier than us," the girl quickly turned around, and nearly stumbled backwards once noticing David's face a few inches away from her.
She took a few steps back and bowed respectfully towards the team's captain. Joseph stood beside his teammate and smiled softly, once taking notice of the teen girl. Then an idea hit Jane.
" Since I came earlier than you two, you will buy me new spikes! My old ones are getting worn out," she announced proudly, while pointing an accusing finger at David, and Joseph.
The captain's eyebrows twitched slightly. He grabbed Jane's arm, and forced her to sit down in her seat, before sitting beside her. Joseph simply giggled wholeheartedly and followed. Another minute passed. The large, metal doors flew open, and a familiar boy from Inazuma Japan stepped in, with a careless expression. He looked around the room and smirked once locking eyes with Jane and David.
"So you managed to arrive early it see," he teased, before slightly licking his bottom lip, causing Jane to shiver in her seat.
His attention then shifted to David, " Too bad Jude is not here, we will probably lose our next match because of you."
A deep frown covered the captain's face, but before he could say anything, the metal doors opened again, and coach Koga walked in with a cold face, which was quite surprising. It was the opposite of his overconfident attitude. He kept walking until he reached the centre of the room, and narrowed his eyes at Jane.
"Surprisingly, Seishou Academy has as requested a exsebition game in only two days from now. Today we will have to work harder than usual. Is that understood?!" His voice echoed like thunder in the room, refusal was not an option.
Everyone was about to stand up, and leave, but the coach's voice froze them in place, " We also have a new team-member from the reinforcement community. You can come in."
All the team members turned to the back of the room, but Jane was the only person who regretted that action. The door opened, and there he was, Nathan Swift. The girl swallowed her saliva, sensing her throat becoming dry. Nathan took notice of the girl, but said nothing to her.
" It's nice to meet you all. I am Nathan Swift from the reinforcement community." He introduced himself, before walking towards the coach, and bowing respectfully.
The coach did not seem to care that much, and turned towards the other players, " Nathan will help you practice, so consider him one of you from now on. Do you understand?!"
All the members stood up, and gave him a loud "Yes Sir!", before leaving the meeting room and heading to the field. Jane, David, and Joseph walked over to Nathan, but the girl was able to feel her palms sweating. David simply gave him a pleased smile and motioned him to follow them. Nathan only nodded, and followed. Jane did not even dare to glance at him, at least not yet. Once they entered the stadium, they joined up with the rest of the team and were given their positions. Everyone waited patiently for the coach to blow the whistle. Jane shook her head, everything off the field was not important. The whistle blew. David passed her the ball and dashed forward, while giving the others instructions. Not thinking twice, Jane dribbled the ball towards enemy territory on her own. David called out to her, but she did not listen, and continued on her own. Caleb watched the girl dodge every single person who got in her way. She either did a back flip, or dribbled past them, but he knew she had more tricks up her sleeve. The boy dash towards her, and joined her bullheaded charge. Jane glanced at him, with a raised eyebrow. Caleb simpky smirked eagerly at her, but her attention quickly turned to the three defenders in front of her. Without wasting a second, she made a back pass to Caleb. He was stunned at first, but dribbled the ball forward, before kicking it, and scoring a successful goal out of catching their opponents off guard. Nathan simply sat at the benches, and watched the two players carefully. Yes, he was a little hurt about Jane not writing back to him all summer, but he wanted to focus on the team for the meantime.
"I guess I can never hate her," he mumbled under his breath, before sighing.
Caleb walked over to Jane, and high-fived her. The girl had an adorable grin on her face, and poked Caleb's head a few times.
"You might be useful after all," she teased him and giggled cheekly.
Caleb simply sighed, but David crashed their conversation, " What the hell were you thinking you two?"
The girl's giggling died down into a nervous chuckle. She had officially requested a whole speech from the captain himself. Everytime he yelled, he would take a step closer to her, until the girl was lying on the ground, with her mind jumping up and down from the pressure.
"Well isn't this great mister captain? You made her faint!" Caleb commented misciviously, and stuck his tongue out.
"He was requesting a death wish," Joseph thought, as he watch them argue like and old couple.
