Chapter 11
Xavier stood at the hospital's administration, with Jane's small figure sobbing against his chest. He patted the girl's head a few times, before turning his attention to a young nurse walking towards him. Her hair was tied in a perfect, round bun, and her white uniform had a few stains of dust. Jane glanced at the newcomer, her head feeling a bit heavy, as if the world was once spinning.
"You must be Xavier Froster and Jane Wolf, right?" The teen boy nodded in agreement at the women's question, while wrapping an arm around his friend's shoulder.
Jane was barely able to walk when the nurse lead them to Torch's room, even half her weight rested on Xavier for support. Each step reminded her of the pain covering her of Torch's pained expression. Before she knew it, a perfectly white door stood infront of her, with the number one hundered engraved on it. Loud moans could be heard coming from the inside, but that did not stop the girl from opening the door without any hesitation. Xavier kept a firm hold on her arm just in case, expecting her to pass out any second. The nurse stared worriedly at the two friends, before following them into the patient's room, imaging how regretful it would be to find someone important being locked up in a hospital room, having an expression of pain and uneasiness. She shook her head, and closed the door behind her, before focusing her mind on a few documents the docter had left on a a small desk in the corner of the room. Jane stood next to the doorstep, her feet nailed on the blue, rubber floor, and her tired, hazel eyes rested on the red-headed boy, who lay on the white hospital bed twisting, and turning, with beads of sweat dripping from his forehead. Xavier looked pitifully at the boy in the bed, whom to him was a little brother.
"Don't leave me," Torch mumbled in his sleep, while breathing heavily, " Jane . . ."
He was having a nightmare, or what Xavier liked to describe it as, " talking to his demon". Jane walked towards him, sitting on a small stall next to the bed, and resting her head on the Torch's chest. Cold tears dripped on the silk blanket, and regret was mentally killing the girl from inside. A gentle breeze entered the opened windows, and the nurse slowly pulled Jane away from the patient, and led her to the next hospital room.
Jane did not mind bringing in contract with a demon, but having her friends pissed Byron was out of the question. This time when the nurse stopped in front the next room, the girl dashed into the room, but was surprised to see Gazel sitting next to the window, staring at the small garden outside, with a lifeless expression. It felt as if a dagger had sunk itself into Jane's chest, but that only caused her to sprint to the silver-haired boy, and pull him into a tight embrace. No tears fell from her, but Gazel looked as if someone hit him on the head. He had no idea who pulled the demon away from him, an ever since he woke up, he feared it was Jane. Picturing the girl's soul wrapped in that immortal's fingertips scared him to death. As if uncosious, he hugged back and felt a beautiful warmth filling his pale skin.
"Your such a damn idiot! Don't ever do that again! You hear?!" Jane yelled at the top of her lungs, gripping the boy's white shirt, but not allowing anymore tears to shed.
Gazel was shivering, not because he was cold, but out of regret. His left hand ran though the girl's hair, and small beads of tears gathered in the corner of his eyes. Jane placed her hand against the boy's lips, and rested a soft, yet cunning kiss on it. A slight red blush covered Gazel's cheeks, and a tiny smile sprouted on his cheeks, but Xavier pulled Jane away before things could go any further
"It is certainly good to see you alive, but if I were you I would not get too cocky," the red head warned, with a fake grin covering his face.
Gazel did not argue, but suddenly his eyes widened, and mistake was fixed at the entrance door.
The other two teens and the nurse turned their attention it the doorstep, and right there Torch stood limply leaning on the door's plastic frame, golden smoke seeping from his eyes, and body shivering in pain. Jane ran to the red head, noticing him losing his footing, and wrapped an arm around his waist.
"What are you doing here?! You should be lying in bed right now!" She complained, but Torch did not mutter a single word.
Torch's hesitatedly reached out for the girl's shoulder, as if he was struggling. A shadow roamed across his eyes, and Xavier had a bad feeling about what was about to happen. Only the ticking if the grandfather cloak filled the silent atmosphere. Suddenly, Torch's eyes shot open, a wild, hungry, devilish look filling them, and a phycopathic grin blooming on his face. Xavier ran towards Jane, and tugged her arm, but Torch forcefully pulled her back, causing Xavier to stumble to the floor. The girl struggled to get away, but the red headed boy only snaked his arm around her waist tightly.
"Fu Fu Jane, Torch held quite a fight against me, but his need for power is still impressing," Jane knew that voice, and it did not belong to Torch, but Lucian.
The nurse pulled a small needle form her pocket, and stabbed Torch right in the neck, before things got worse. As if in slow motion, she pulled the needle back out, allowing Torch's limp body to rest on the rubber floor. Jane jumped away, unable to believe he friend was actual being consumed by a demon. Gazel sat helpless on his bed, only that in his eyes, Torch was slowly disappearing into the flames of pain.
"C-curse you Lucian," he kept mumbling those words in hesitation, hatered and anger swelling in his chest.
