Chapter 10

Hour after hour would pass, and yet nothing was able to change Jane's mind. She would not touch the soccer ball, nor even talk about soccer. In the end, she locked herself in her room, and not even her parents were able to convince her to get out. She would silently lay on her bed, and stare at the white sealing above her, while sighing every few minutes. What was her purpose now? Nothing was catching attention, but she was not just going to wait. Lazily, she grabbed her school bag from under her bed, and walked out of her room, but just when she was about to close the door, her hazel eyes rested on the snowflake headband on her desk. For a split second, she felt a sharp pain in her chest. Jane rubbed her forehead, before closing the door, and making her way out of her home. The streets were awfully empty, and not a single sound could be heard, but a single girl's repeative sighing. Jane kicked a small, grey pebble out of bore-doom, allowing it to clatter across the sidewalk. For the first time in ages, she pulled her phone out of her bag, and opened her contacts. Strands of hair were slightly covering her eyes, but irritation was taking over her body like magic.

"Man you really are weird," sighing again, Jane turned to Lucian, who had a perfectly red rose floating on his palm, with a slight smile playing on his lips.

His red and yellow eyes danced around the girl's expression, reading all the irritation and confusion on her face, but not that it bothered Jane that much. Afterall, he was just some idiot immortal, who had for some reason chose her as his mistress, but she could never sense the fear that demon hide from her. It was unexpected to Lucian that he would actually fear a mortal, but there was no denying the fact that she was effecting him with her strange actions. It mostly surprised him how that simple girl could struggle to stay away from the darkness, instead of giving in. Finally, Jane flicked his forehead, causing him to snap out of his daydream.

"I think your the weird one here," she mumbled, "but I guess you could say I am happy your here."

Lucian huffed coldly, and crossed his arms. It was basically the only way to avoid her suspicion, but Jane was completely fooled. The girl could sense the demon's uneasiness, but did not mind, and   kept walking. After a few minutes, Lucian caught up with her, but he was not surprised were he
found her. The field new to the river bank was silent, only th dancing of the trains of dust could be slightly heard, and the gentle waves of the river. Across he field, Jane was resting her back against the trunk of the leafless, cherry blossom tree. Her bag sat next to her, but to Lucian's surprise she had a chemistry book resting on her back. The immortal walked closer to get a closer look at the white pages of the book, but to him everything written on them were random scribbles and lines. Jane was silently solving all to the questions, with a serious expression. Lucian poked the girl's head, but received no reply.

"I never thought I will see you again, or mostly that I would find you with her," Jane and Lucian turned to the owner of the voice, only to find Gazel standing on the opposite side of the trunk, with a displeased expression.

"I could say the same thing for you my ex-master," Lucian replied, a smirk playing across his lips.

Gazel huffed in response, before glancing at Jane. He slowly stepped away from the tree, and crouched down next to the silent girl, and said, "Keeping a demon around is stupid. The least you could do is tell someone about it."

"Ow shut up! You were nothing but a cold hearted person Gazel, or would you rather to become my master again?" Lucian teased smoothly, placing his hand o the silver-haired boy's shoulder, yearning to pull his old puppet's strings, but Gazel ignored him, and crased Jane's cheek allowing all the girl's worries to ease a little.

"Damn you Gazel, if you want more power I can offer it," Lucian was desperate to gain a host with negative emotions, but Gazel was fighting back a little, trying to focuse all his attention at the girl infront of him.

The immortal giggled mischiviously, as if he was winning a bet. His arms slowly snaked themselves around Gazel's neck, but the boy was still resisting with everything he had. His once displeased face was turning in a desperate one. On the other hand, Jane stared blankly at the light flickering in the boy's teal eyes, life, joy, and pain flooded like water. Gazel knew Lucian enjoyed having him as a host before, and would not mind having him again, but the least he could do was break Jane free from this heartless immortal. Black smoke was already clouding Gazel's vision, and hope was fading from his eyes,
the light was gently vanishing, motioning the demon was slowly gaining his prey . Suddenly a warm hand was resting on the cheek of the pained host, giving him enough energy to barely raise his head, and see Jane's angelic smile, after so much time. It was as if she was a ray of light, but the dark shadows were clouding his vision again, and consious was slipping away from him. Lucian slighly lowered his host's sleeve, inching his fangs to the nap of Gazel's neck, saliva slightly dripping from fro his mouth, but quickly closed his mouth. The immortal was only a teen, and toying with a host before sealing the contract. He could nearly smell the negative emotions seaping out of Gazel's cold heart. The boy's eyes finally closed, and fell to the grassy floor, shadows floating above his body, like smoke.

About twenty meters away, Torch strolled the streets feeling stressed after a while day of wildness. The side walk was silent like every afternoon, but a loud scream cut through the atmosphere like a knife, pulling the red head back to reality. The scream echoed repeatedly, and before he knew it, his legs were dashing towards the river bank. Torch's sun-like eyes froze at the sight of black shadows covering a familiar figure, lying next to a cherry blossom, with Jane crouched down next to it. That's when he noticed the silver hair peeking out of the smoke of shadows. As if out of consciousness, wrapped his arms around his rival's, pulling him into an hug, allowing the shadows to encircle his body. Once the smoke cleared away from Gazel's body, Torch pushed him away, and stumbled to the floor. He could hear Jane pleading him to stay awake, and Gazel's low moans of pain, but every inch of his body ached, and his eyes were half-way closed when Lucian came into his view. He was exactly above him, his hands were grabbing his wrists pinning him to the ground, a savage smirk playing on his face, and his eyes hungry for his host. Torch felt his breathing getting heavy, and his heart pounded against his chest like a hammer out of fear. The demon rested his arms against his host's wrists, grabbing Torch's face forcing him to look sideways, sunk his fangs into the nap of Torch's neck, and sucked out the fresh blood. The boy tried to scream, but the intense pain in his neck made him chock. A thin line of blood dripped out of his mouth, and the flickering flame in his eye vanished in an instant. The immortal was ripping away all of his emotions, and feasting on all the negative feelings he maintained for so long. It was as if being thrown into a sea for fear. Lucian finally pulled out his fangs from this host's neck, licking of the troops of blood on his lips, and stared in satisfaction at the boy infront of him. Torch looked like a dying deer, eyes halfway open, breathing heavily, and blood slowly dripping from his neck. Lucian licked his lips again, and allowed his tougue to dance across the few thin lines of blood dripping from his prey's neck. Fear covered Torch's expression, and consiousness was was leaving his body, until everything around him finally became pitch black. Lucian slowly disappeared through the shadows floating around Torch, which after a few seconds seeped into the boy's skin, leaving only several wavey tattoos covering the left side of Torch's neck, where Lucian had sunk his fangs. The boy silently lied on the floor eyes closed, and breathing steady. For a second Jane did not move, glancing at the two boys infront of her, before pulling out her phone, and calling the ambulance. She had no idea what happened, everything was too fast, but she was unaware of anyone's feelings. By the time the ambulance arrived, the girl had been lying next Torch, with unbearable tears streaming down her face. What happened after that had shook Jane's core.
