Chapter 40

The day seemed to pass by quickly. The chirpping of the colourful birds slowly died down, and so did the sun, the only thing that was left, was the sound of young teens playing beside the river bank. The tiny waves of the river would dance around cheerfully, replying to the joyful sounds of laughter. A gentle breeze passed by, and the rustling of trees filled the area.

"It sure has been a while", Jane mumbled softly, as the wind brushed through the locks of her hair.

Just a year ago, she was completely isolated, and never gave herself mercy. Xavier sat beside her on the wooden bench, watching the rest of his teammates practicing. He was tierd, yet satisfied. Yes, it has been a while since he was able to enjoy his afternoon, but he did not want to disturb his moment of rest, and stayed silent. He simply glanced at Jane. The girl's brown eyes simmered slightly in the moon-light. It was beautiful. No, she was beautiful. It somehow calmed him that he was finally able to spend his afternoon, with most of his friends again.

"They are better than I thought", Xavier was confused at first, and did not understand what Jane was referring to.

The girl simply pointed to the group of players on the field, while straightening her back. The team was thriving, it made large improvements. It nearly made it hard for Jane to believe that the large group on the field, we're once separate players, who were ranked last place on soccer.

"yeah," was the only word that escaped Xavier's lips.

He could not help it, fatigue was floating around him, but he did not feel the need to go to bed. Treasuring this moment was the only thing on his mind. He slowly turned towards the girl beside him, and gently held her hand. Jane snapped out of her gaze, and turned to the boy. She certainly was aware he had feelings for her, but never thought he would be this much bold. Xavier carefully lifted her hand to his lips, and softly kissed it. He was not teasing her. Honesty, Royalty, and pureness danced in his eyes. His feelings were sprouting from the bottom of his heart, this was not a game at all anymore, nor was it a battle. To Xavier, it was beyond words, and describing. He certainly accepted the fact that he was young to love, but that did not mean he was giving up. The boy was aiming for the future, not the present, and something told Jane that she was going to be caught up in another mad event. A smile formed itself on his lips, and he mumbled softly," I don't need you answer now. There is still A lot of time left, and I think things will flip soon. I know this is strange, but the fact that I love you will stay the same."

No words came out of Jane's mouth. She was stunned. Never in her life has she ever heared someone talk to her like that, not to forget confess to her. True, every word was true, and every thought that this boy has been thinking about, was true. They were too young, there was still alot of time left, things would change, and Xavier's love was certainly a fact. Jane's phone buzzed, and the girl quickly pulled it out of her pocket. Gazel was calling, but the teen knew what was up, without being told.

"hello? Jane?" Gazel sounded different, as if he was lost in thought.

"Yeah," the girl knew what was coming, but it was not going to break her heart.

"Look, I know this is sudden, but this doesn't mean I hate you, nor that I d-don't l-love y-you", Gazel hesitated at the other end of the phone, and yet Jane had a soft smile on her face.

"We are too young Gazel, I know. I still love you. Really, but we are still too young, and we have a lot of time," she did not want him to take the burden, but she could sense Gazel felt the same.

"So you thought about it too I see," The boy was not going to let his feelings vanish just like that, but he knew well that right now the best choice was to stop, and see what soccer has in store for him.

Yes, Gazel loved her so passionately, but he did not want to rush things for them both, they have time. They were not going to end their relationship here, they were going to go back to being friends. They both have deep emotions, but now was not the right time. Gazel's feelings might not change, but them breaking up meant a new story, a new chapter.

"Then wish me luck on our next game," Gazel added, his voice sounding confident again.

"Hai, good luck. Come back here in one piece," Jane teased, before closing her phone.

She turned back to Xavier, and nodded, " There is still time, and we are young."

Things were changing alright, and soccer was to lead the way for them. Such a simple game,  was actually able to bring so many people together. Xavier looked at the sky, and mumbled, " Things will change, but I wonder if we will?"

Gazel sighed, and placed his phone into his bag again. He has done it. Regret was supposed to have eaten his soul, but he wanted to stand high, and wait to see what was ahead. For the meantime, he wanted to focus on the present, and more importantly, his upcoming game again "Inazuma Japan."

" I should not rush things," he mumbled, lying back on his bed, and allowing sleep to eat him alive.

Torch slowly stepped away from his teammates door, and sighed in disappointment. Things were going to change somehow, and his arrogant mind sensed it as well. Slowly and carefully , he stood up, and opened the door in front of him. He was not the type to let confusion, and irritation eat him away. Gazel shifted uncomfortably in his bed, the shirt of his red jersey slightly lifted, revealing some of his pale skin. The boy fell asleep faster than Torch imagined. Not paying attention to the consequences, Torch pulled a small, pitch black feather, and slowly brushed it across his teammates belly. Gazel rolled side-ways, causing himself to fall off the bed. The silver-haired boy, moaned angerly, his face still attached to the solid floor. Torch smirked wholeheartedly, and poked his teammates head.

" What?" Gazel moaned, standing up, and wipping a small line of saliva on the side of his mouth.

" You seem in a bad mood, so let's head out to the gaming center near by. It's only eight pm, they should be open ", Torch suggested, dragging his friend out of the room.

He might be an idiot, but a surprisingly caring idiot . . . .  sometimes.

As the last bit of daylight faded away, street lamps light the roads, and fire-flies fluttered through the sky. Another day was to come, and another Game was to begin.
