Chapter 28
Third Person POV . . .
In the end, the team members of " Fire Dragons" all followed Torch, along with Jane and Zues to the green field, but most of them seemed to regret it, once they sensed the tense atmosphere on the field. Zues and Torch were glaring daggers at each other, and the tension was clear as hell. The others sat on the benches, and waited silently for the coach to blow the whistle. This is a one-on-one match, and the first person to score the first two goals would be the victor. Jane sat under the cheery blossom tree, and eyed the two players on the field. The result did not matter to her for the meantime, she was only aiming to join the strongest, and gain power.
The whistle finally blew, and Torch started dribbling the ball across the field. Zues was standing still, as if turned to stone, and was smiling eagerly. A feeling of uncertainty struck Torch, once he noticed his enemy standing still. Zues took this opportunity, and stole the ball from him, before he could even blink.
" Curses!", Torch hissed, while dashing after Zues. Jane smirked slightly at the
red-head's clumsiness, and clicked her tongue.
" Still arrogant, yet determined", she mumbled under her breath. Her innocent emotions were slowly fading, and soon she might lose herself to the darkness, if she would not snap back to reality. Her attention turned back to the game, and she was struck by amusement, once she noticed Torch tackling Zues, and slipping swiftly past him, with incredeble dribbling.
" I won't lose to a worthless idiot! Nor will I let you take my teammates' love for soccer!" he yelled, kicking the ball straight towards the goal, and scoring successfully.
Zues stared in dissatisfaction at the red-head, and spat at the ground in disgust.
" Don't get cocky", he hissed, picking the dirt-covered ball, and walked back to the centre of the field.
Leo on the other hand, sat silently on the benches beside Byron, and eyed his cousin Zues suspiciously. He was still unable to figure him out. Ever since his seventh birthday, Zues never talked to him, and always gave him the cold shoulder.
" Come on big cuz! Your not gonna let me blow the candles by myself?!" Young Leo asked his older cousin Zues, while patting his back, but he did not respond.
" Cuz?", Leo tugged his cousin's shoulder to get his attention, but he did not budge.
" Shut up! You acting all innocent makes me sick! No one even know I exist anymore because of you!", Leo stumbled backwards, and fell on his bum.
" Ouch!", the little blonde whinned painfully.
" You have all the attention I once had! I wish you were never born!", the young teen shouted, causing his parents to dash into the small bedroom, with worried expressions. Once their eyes met Zues, a glare covered their worried faces.
" You should feel ashamed of yourself Zues! Today is our cousin's birthday! I don't remember raising you like this!" His mother shouted, while pointing an accusing finger at her stunned son. Leo jumped in front of his aunt, and waved his small hands in front of her.
" Don't be hard on him auntie! Zues was just joking around!", the young blonde excused his cousin, and laughed awkwardly, hoping his auntie would accept his excuse, but before his aunt could reply, Zues dashed our of the room, while yelling insults, and curses.
" Zues!"
The memory was still clear as day, and it kept haunting Leo for years. He was never able to ask Zues about that day, and time never healed his doubts, but there were a few things that stopped him from collapsing, his love for soccer. Kicking the ball would always send a spark of joy, and excitment. Not long, before he joined the fire dragons, when he would walk past the soccer field, and watch the "Fire Dargons" practice everyday, but Torch was more like his idol, even though he never showed it. He admired Torch's passion for soccer, even if the red-head had a bad habit of being arrogant.
" Leo!", the blonde glanced at Byron, who was calling his name for the past five minutes.
" What's with you spacing out?!", his teammate asked, with a worried expression covering his face. Leo certainly did not want to talk about his cousin, and quickly changed the topic.
" What's the score?", he asked, trying to brush aside his thoughts, and place a fake, toothy smile. Byron noticed his friend's bold action, and decided not to push his questions further.
" It is a tie for the meantime", he replied, turning his attention back to the field. Leo nodded in satisfaction, and looked at Jane, who sat under the tree, mumbling the word 'power' over and over again. It was quite creepy, but Leo was able to find the source of her strange behaviour, once his eyes landed on the small crystal rock dangling from her necklace.
" Bingo", he mumbled under his breath, with a slight grin growing on his face.
" I hate to admit it, but the idiot is pulling quite a show", Choi mumbled, as he watched the game, while sitting next to Gazel. The silver-haired male simply nodded, and watched Zues' every movement. His heart pounding like a hammer in his chest, as he watched the tense match. If Torch were to lose, he could forget the hope of saving Jane forever. This match would make a huge change to the future, and one small mistake could bring everything to ruin.
" It is either win or lose, and the result will decide everything", Gazel said, with a cold voice, and tightened his grip on the bench.
"We cannot lose!"
=============================
Behold a question!
Will they win or lose?
A) win
B) lose
Until next time!
