Chapter - 23
It was now 7.30 in the evening. Jungkook, exhausted with every last drop of coolness of the chilly November night, was drifting his tired body toward the door lazily. Yoongi dropped him just a minute ago, he had some urgent work in the office, so he didn't even come to say hello to Jimin.
Jimin returned from his grandparent's house just a few hours ago, he told Junglook to be home early because his flight for Los Angeles was at twelve in the night, so like other nights, Jungkook didn't pull out his keys to open the door, he just knocked twice.
"Hey, my baby brother, welcome home." Jimin welcomed him with a warm embrace and some little pattings on his back. "Look who's here," Jimin said after closing the door behind.
"Mom! Wow! I missed you so much." Jungkook almost ran to his stepmother and hugged him tightly. The tiredness he was feeling earlier was replaced by an energetic smile.
"Aw! I missed you too my baby." Jungkook's stepmom was smiling radiantly. She placed a kiss on his forehead and said, "I wanted to come in December but Jimin insisted me to come with him and I'm so glad to see you tonight." Jimin joined him in their reunion hug, three of them were smiling happily.
"Jungkook, why aren't you eating properly, look at your arms, they've become so thin these days." Their mom said on the dinner table. She cooked several Korean non-veg dishes with homemade kimchi and pickles which served with three bottles of soju. Jimin took a very small amount of food on his plate, he had a flight and also he had to maintain his body weight to look perfect on the stage. So their mom was putting more meat on Jungkook's plate.
"Mom stop, you'll make me chubby." Jungkook covered his plate with his other hand to make a shield from his mother's love attack. Jimin was giggling from time to time seeing them like this.
"Kookie, you're really not eating properly, my child. I've stored so many other dishes in the fridge, eat them before they get wasted, ok?" His mom said while feeding him a pickled shrimp with a chopstick. Jungkook nodded, having the shrimp into his mouth. "By the way the whole country is gossiping on that parliament poisonous gas attack, are you in their investigation team?" She asked in a serious voice.
"Yeah, I don't know why people do such reckless things? They should die and should be tortured in hell. Now God knows what is going to happen to those victims!" Jimin said with a shrug.
"Yoongi hyung is in the investigation team, he didn't want to add me in, I'm not doing it at all." Jungkook sighed and put his chopsticks down. He couldn't tell his family what reasons he was not in this team for. Seeing the disgusted faces of his family members towards the culprits, his heart became heavy again.
"I hope everything will get normal again." Mrs Jeon put down her chopsticks and turned towards Jungkook, "I've to visit our house tonight also, your dad told me to go there before going back to Busan."
"Oh! Ok mom, please take a good care of your parents and don't worry about us, we're all grown up now." Jungkook said after sipping some alcohol from his bottle. His mom smiled at the last sentence and ruffled his hair with her fingers.
Around ten thirty, Jimin and his mother bid their farewell and both of them headed on their separate ways, leaving Jungkook all alone in his house. Jungkook released a heavy sigh after closing the door.
After loosening his stiff body on his bed, the first thing that came into his mind was a particular boy who broke his heart ignorantly just some hours ago. He couldn't match the two personalities together. The one, who was living in his house for some days, was so loveable and the best example of a good person, while the other one was just a caddish and misbehaved person. The first one was like a sweet dream and the other was like the harsh reality which he wasn't prepared to face. Jungkook closed his eyes as he felt helpless and indecisive.
Later on that night when the wind was blowing slowly outside, a pair of cold hands slightly parted the glasses of Jungkook's bedroom's window and entered without making a sound. The shadow gingerly came closer to the bed and removed the blanket from the sleeping person's face but a sudden movement made him startled. The sleeping person grabbed his hand, pulled him on his bed and by rolling on him, made him pinned under his body. The visitant's hands were put over his head as it was gripped tightly by the other boy's tough hands.
"What made you come all the way here, Kim Taehyung-ssi?" Jungkook asked in a calm yet rough voice. When he didn't get any answer, he asked again, "Did you come here to see if I'm alive or not?"
Taehyung was breathing under him rapidly, when he tried to remove his hands, the other boy's fists tightened around his wrists more. He shrieked in pain, "Leave my hands, I came here to talk with you."
Jungkook snorted bitterly, "oh really! Then say what you want to say, I'm all ears for you." His eyes were looking deeply into the other's eyes like he wanted to burn him alive.
"Aaah- leave my wrists first," Taehyung's teary eyes were lit up with pain and anger. He was regretting, not wearing his leather jackets to cover up his wrists.
"Why are you feeling pain Taehyung-ssi? After playing with so many people's lives, you should be feeling more happy." Jungkook cocked his head and smirked mockingly.
"Fine," Taehyung muttered, clinging his jaws. "I have a deal for you. If you break my wrists, I won't tell you." Taehyung's face became pinkish because of the pain, he bit his lower lips to suppress a cry.
"Alright, let's see what this deal is about." Jungkook released Taehyung's wrists and got up from him. He turned on a brighter light, then pulled a chair in front of the bed and sat on it by crossing his legs. "You have only ten minutes to finish your speech, after that I shall personally escort you in the lockup."
Taehyung sat up on the bed, rubbing his pained wrists with the other hand. He folded his knees and put his joined toes on his side, then directly looked at the other boy, "I know a person who can make the antidote of this disease. Which can remove those poisonous molecules from those people's blood and brains and get them cured within a day."
"Oh really? But you don't have to worry, our doctors are trying to find out the solution." Jungkook said bitterly. His eyes were looking at the other boy intently, how can a person be so attractive even in this disheveled state, that he failed to figure out.
You can't do anything before six days, it is a special kind of disease, it won't be cured by normal drugs. We need Dr Kim Seokjin's help in this." Taehyung was also looking into his eyes deeply but his facial features were more soft.
"Ah! I see, so you researched it well, that he's my cousin and came here in the middle of the night to tell me this." Jungkook smirked and said, "If Dr Seokjin is the only one who can make it, then I can tell him on my own, you don't have to worry."
"He can't do anything this quickly too, he will need the formula first, which I have so-" Taehyung paused for a moment.
"So? What's the deal baby boy? You've already wasted half of your time, still couldn't clarify that deal." Jungkook said with gritting his teeth. He saw how helplessly those victim's guardians were running around in the corridors of the hospital, how the doctors actively tried to save each and every patient and most of all he couldn't forget those patient's senseless pitiful faces. Jungkook sighed deeply recalling all these.
"You have to take me there, in Chicago and convince him to make the antidote as soon as possible." Taehyung stated.
"Why do I have to take you there? I can go there myself and he will not refuse me, then what is the point of taking you there?" Jungkook frowned and lightly snorted at the same time.
"Because I want to give those antidots to our organization, so that they can earn some money by selling it to the government." Taehyung said looking at Jungkook's eyes but lowered his head suddenly to say the last words, "our organization is running out of money."
Jungkook audibly snorted this time, "Do you think I'm a fool?" Jungkook said with confidence but internally he knew that he was a fool in love. "Why will I get by doing this?"
"Don't you want to save those people? They need medicines right now, not your arrogance" Taehyung said, "and also you can arrest me as we came back, don't you think it's a big deal, Kookie?" He rolled his tongue while pronouncing the other boy's name.
"But-" Jungkook unfolded his legs and stood up immediately, "what! You called me Kookie? That means- you remember me?"
Taehyung took a sharp breath. He didn't want the other man to know that he knew but there was no point of backing up now, so he took some moments to gather his confidence, then said with a smirk, "Isn't it obvious that I didn't kill you after you saw my face and called me by my name?"
Jungkook frowned, he was amazed because of his newfound information. He came closer to his bed and sat down not breaking the eye contact. "But you tried to kill me!"
"Oh really? If I really wanted to kill you, won't you be dead by now?" Taehyung bit his lower lips but didn't remove his eyes from the other's. "I tried to run away from you but your stubbornness forced me to shoot on you, I thought you'd be back off from there but you just collapsed on the floor." Taehyung lowered his head.
"Tae, I-" Jungkook's eyes and voice became softer, he put his one hand on Taehyung's hand but Taehyung panicky removed his hands and got up from the bed.
"This is Kim Taehyung for you Mr Jeon and I don't like other people calling me by this name, except my best friend." Taehyung said coldly. "If you accept my proposal then, we shall meet at the airport tomorrow before eight in the morning. If you don't come there, then I have to destroy those formula papers because those people will die anyway."
"Fine, I'll be there before eight Mr Kim Taehyung," Jungkook said after releasing a long breath which he was holding for sometimes. "But tell me how shall I arrange the fake passport and the tickets this soon?"
"You don't have to worry about that, I've already arranged these, just help me pass through the security checking area. That's why I came here to you." Taehyung winked and turned around towards the window. He was about to open it but Jungkook stopped him.
"Are you a thief? Just go from the front door." Jungkook signed him to follow him. Taehyung sighed but did what he was said to. Jungkook opened the bedroom door and came to their kitchen and common space,
"Yeah, I used to be a thief, you can also call me that." Taehyung said while pressing his lips in a thin line. He was subtly perceiving those furniture in that area, the room was exactly the same as he left. He looked up at the TV set and sofa. He smiled a little when he remembered how much time he spent by just sitting there and watching movies. Then he slowly moved his gaze towards the closed door of Jimin's bedroom. He was wondering if that short cheerful boy'd come back from his grandparent's home or not.
Jungkook opened the door and turned around, "Hey, why do you want to surrender? Why do you want to defend those people?"
"It's none of your business, just concentrate on helping those sick people." Taehyung came closer to the other boy and pulled out a small object from his jean's pocket, "here, take this."
"It's the ring!" Jungkook said while looking widely at the other boy's eyes, "why are you giving me this back?"
"I wanted to throw it away but thought that you might have spent so much of your savings on it, that's why I'm giving it back." Taehyung said calmly.
"You said you were a thief, I've never heard of any thief doing this kind of charity before." Jungkook wanted to mock him but his words came out like a pathetic babble. He took the ring back slowly and fisted the palm.
"If I had stolen it, I would have never given it back." Taehyung glared at Jungkook with so much intensity that Jungkook couldn't be able to remove his gaze from those hypnotic eyes.
Taehyung lowered his head after some moments and was about to get go but Jungkook again stopped him by holding his wrist and said, "Taehyung, the weather is much colder outside and you're wearing just a thin t-shirt-."
Taehyung left out a shriek while removing his already bruised wrist and looked at him with pained eyes but didn't say anything, just quickly ran out from there. It took Jungkook some seconds to realise that he had hurt him again physically. He opened his closed fist and stared at that sparkling small stone. It looked so much better on Taehyng's fingers than his palm. He smiled bitterly and murmured, "So that's why you didn't return my heart after stealing it from me."
Jungkook arrived five minutes early at Incheon International Airport, as Taehyung told him but he couldn't find the other boy inside the main gate. He got an ugly headache because of the deficit of sleep he got, even the painkillers couldn't make him feel better. He searched for Taehyung inside the huge compound of the airport but that boy was nowhere to be seen. Jungkook had already called him three times, but his phone was switched off. When the flight for Chicago was declared, jungkook stomped his feet in annoyance but soon after a light tap on his shoulder made him turn back.
"Woah! Are we going on a trip? What's with this huge ass suitcase?" A man in yellow beret and black mask asked him from behind. That person was wearing a white full sleeves t-shirt and a loose black trouser. A small bag-pack was also hanging loosely on his shoulder. There was no way that this man could attract people with this odd combination of clothing but Jungkook just couldn't move his eyes from him.
"Trip? I thought you'll ask me if we're going on a honeymoon." Jungkook snorted lightly while Taehyung just rolled his eyes. Jungkook was feeling much more relaxed after seeing the other. "Where's your passport? Give it to me." He took the passport from Taehyung and opened the book, "Kim Yoontan? Really?" He raised his eyebrows, looking at the other.
"Do you have any problem with that? Here's our tickets, now let's move forward." Taehyung didn't wait for the police officer and started going toward the checking area.
"Hey, wait, let me go first and hide your face properly." Jungkook took bigger steps to overtake the other boy. They didn't face much problem in the security checking room. Both of them were unarmed and Jungkook also had a big advantage of being a cop, so the airport police let them go easily.
"Hey, why aren't you putting your bagpack luggage in the overhead bins?" Jungkook asked him while adjusting his seat in the aircraft.
"The formula papers are in it, I can't just trust a cop." Taehyung said, as he was holding the backpack like his life was depending on it. He looked outside the window when the plane took off from the runaway, soft sunrays were making his face more captivating.
"Are you really going to put that heavy thing on your lap throughout the journey? We're inside of the plane God dammit, I can't run away from here." Jungkook snorted as the other boy's grips tightened on it.
Taehyung turned his head to Jungkook, "It's my backpack, my lap, my choice, why are you thinking so much?" Saying this, he again turned his head to the window.
"Didn't you bring anything to wear?" Jungkook asked in a lower voice, bringing his lips extremely closer the other male's ears, so that the other passengers couldn't hear him.
Taehyung shooted his eyes back at him, "Is that your new way to torture criminals? Like annoy him to death by asking stupid questions?" His frown got deeper as he saw the other man was leaning closer to his ears again.
"I just wanted to tell you that I have no problem with sharing my things. In fact-" Jungkook's warm breaths were fanning on Taehyung's colder ears. Taehyung felt shivers whenever he released some air through his parted mouth, "you look good wearing my clothes."
"No need, I can manage." Taehyung gulped and looked away.
The air hostesses served their morning meals with coffee after sometimes, both of them ate silently but Jungkook were checking on the boy on his side from time to time. He wanted to make sure that the boy was eating properly. Taehyung didn't even moved his eyes from the food. He was enjoying every single bit of it. When Jungkook put some bacons on his plate from his own plate, he didn't say anything but ate it instantly.
"Here is something on your lips." Jungkook said after wiping his own. Taehyung swiped his hand over his lips and looked at the other male with a pout. "Here, at the corner." Jungkook moved his right hand which was Taehyung's opposite side to wipe it. It was nothing but some donut creams. Jungkook slowly wiped it with his thumb then put the thumb on his own mouth and sucked the cream off.
"Eww! That's- that's so gay." Taehyung crunched his nose and looked forward.
"I am gay, what's the problem?" Jungkook shrugged and looked away.
"But I'm not gay." Taehyung's voice was little over a whisper, he didn't want to declare this to the public.
"What!" Jungkook turned his head quickly to the other boy and again brought his mouth closer to his ears, "After doing those gayest shits with me, now you're telling me this?"
Taehyung gulped audibly, he looked around to the other passengers and muttered, "You're a pervert."
Jungkook frowned, "what did I do? I'm just telling the truth." After that he giggled and brought his mouth closer, his lips were almost touching the other's earlobe, "why? Did I make you shy?"
"Don't talk with me like that, you pervert. Gosh! why aren't this stupid aeroplane running quickly." Taehyung put his mask back on and looked outside of the window. His heart was beating so fast that he panicked thinking if Jungkook could hear it clearly from his seat. It's not that he wasn't feeling shy as Jungkook said, he was feeling so many emotions at a time, which he shouldn't feel but what could he do? Destiny has gripped him in such a way that he had no way to move an inch. No matter which way he had chosen, there was only the darkness of the abyssal. Taehyung closed his eyes after resting his head on the seat. A single tear was forming on the corner of his eyes but he wiped his immediately and tried to get some sleep.
Jungkook was also feeling sleepy. He felt like his own bed when Taehyung's sweet vanilla scent was taking over his senses slowly. Though he wasn't holding Taehyung's hands like before but his presence was enough to make him feel like home. Taehyung really was his home sweet home.
