chapter - 17
"Here, eat some more." Jimin said after serving Yoongi a plate full of bibimbap. Yoongi was stuffing his mouth with food quickly, because he's getting late for his office. Jimin stopped him when he left the table to departure, and said "Have some milk at least, you'll become weak, hyung."
"Jiminah, after what happened in bed last night, you think I can become weak this easily?" Yoongi winked and booped Jimin's nose with his. Jimin smiled shyly and lightly hit him with his paw. Yoongi held his hand and pulled him in a hug but they both moved away from each other instantly when Jungkook came out of his room.
"Jiminie hyung, just put something on my plate, quick, I'm getting late." Jungkook said while buttoning up his white shirt.
"Hey, I told you to take the day off, where are you going now?" Yoongi asked him.
"Hyung, I have a mission to do, did you forget what the chief said?" Jungkook said while gulping some food. "I don't want to go Jeju island."
"But you said you're tired," Yoongi came closer to him and put his hand on Jungkook's head, "are you sure you can handle pressures?"
"Of course, don't worry." Jungkook assured his senior and put a fried egg in his mouth in one go.
"Ok buddy, I'm waiting for you in the parking, just eat slowly, huh." Yoongi patted Jungkook's head, took his car keys and went out.
"Is it because of him?" Jimin asked Jungkook, pointing at Tae, who just came out of their room. "You don't want to go anywhere because of him, right?" Jimin smiled cunningly.
"Hyung how did you know about us?" Jungkook put down his glass of milk and rested his eyes on his brother's.
"You were being obviously predictable since the last two days. How could I not notice?" Jimin smiled and gestured him that he's getting late. Jungkook just nodded in response and quickly released from there. "Come here Tae, let's eat together." Jimin called Tae and started arranging their plates.
"Sir, these are the post mortem reports of 9/11 bomb explosion case." Jungkook handed Yoongi a thick case file and then started describing the case, "There are some weird things misleading the case, I just found out today. First look at page number two," Jungkook was sitting across Yoongi in his cabin.
"Oh! Finally the reports came." Yoongi said with a sigh and opened up to see what was hidden under those pages.
"The female body we found is not matching with the description given by that guest house owner. According to postmortem, the accurate body height is one point six seven meter but as the owner of the guest house said it was approximately one point five six meters. I think the owner was lying." Jungkook paused for some moments, then continued, "suppose, he wasn't lying then how can a person change overnight?
"Are you suspecting him?" Yoongi asked.
"Yes, but not fully. All of this happened at his place, this can go against him or can save him." Jungkook said in a serious voice. When Yoongi asked him why, he started explaining, "I've checked his whole background. He was inhabiting that building, over fifty years. It was built by his father, so it was a matter of emotional to him.Nobody wishes their house to be destroyed easily unless one has reached their bottom limit of poverty."
"He was not that poor, I checked his register. The building was old but he had some old guests who visit there from time to time." Yoongi told him the information he collected.
"I know sir, please go into the fifth page," Jungkook showed his senior a photograph of a burnt revolver. "Can you recognize this? It says, made in Thailand."
"Yes, but it was a normal safety revolver, I've seen these types of guns, it was probably smuggled from Thailand." Yoongi said while sipping his cup of coffee. The weather was getting crispy, only a warm cup of coffee could make him relive.
"Yes sir, it's Thai and the jacket the girl was wearing, also made in Thailand. Another thing," Jungkook turned another page, "can you see this brunt badge? Some night clubs or host clubs use these types of badges for their employees. some numbers were written in Thai on it. Six five six two." Jungkook looked into Yoongi directly, "I think we should call the Thailand police to identify this badge."
"Hey, do you want me to discuss this case with the commissioner? He has some contacts with Bangkok's police deputy chief." Yoongi suggested.
"I think this is a good idea. If the commissioner requests Bangkok police, they'll look into this matter soon." Jungkook also nodded to confirm his words. "Hyung, I want to tell you something, please listen to me once." He asked.
"Go on, but we don't have much time, the general meeting will start shortly." Yoongi reminded Jungkook.
"Yes, I still think this case is somehow related to the Park Jaehoon case." Jungkook put his elbows on the desk and came closer to his senior, "the hand missile is distracting me, and the explosion happened just a couple of minutes after the time we were taking Jaehoon through that highway." Yoongi wasn't saying anything but he was listening to him sincerely. Jungkook started again, "There are two theories. One is that the girl or the girls were involved with the owner, doing something illegal and the explosion happened accidentally. Or two, the girl or the girls wanted to destroy Park Jaehoon's car to kill him, that's why they stored the hand missile and the bomb." He was sure that this case was not as easy as it seemed.
"If they really wanted to kill Jaehoon then why didn't they attack him? We were on that van that day, right? We would have died too but see we are alive." Yoongi shrugged and smiled on his own joke.
"This is where my thoughts are paralyzing, if they planned to kill Jaehoon, why didn't she attack? Instead either she had committed suicide or just accidentally got killed." Jungkook wanted to continue explaining more but a sudden ringing on their landline phone distracted him.
"Yes, ok I'll be there in a minute." Yoongi put down the receiver and got up from his chair, "Jungkook-ah, the officers have arrived, we have to get there now." Jungkook also stood up and both of them headed to the conference room.
"Jiminie hyung, catch me if you can." Tae said when he was running away from Jimin. They were playing the blindfolded game out of boredom. Tae suggested it and Jimin agreed. Jimin was struggling to find Tae desperately, Tae was teasing him from behind and running away. "You can never find me, hyung," Tae tapped on Jimin's head and started running backwards.
"Taetae, I'll catch you, just wait." Jimin turned around and started chasing the other boy.
"Jimin- aaah!" Tae wanted to run backwards but he stepped on a water bottle laying on thr floor, couldn't balance himself and fell on his back. His head hit the corner of their side table. Instantly a sharp pain on his head made him dizzy, he couldn't get up from the position and lost his cognition.
"Tae, are you alright?" Jimin asked, he was still smiling. When he didn't get any response he removed the piece of cloth from his eyes and went near Tae. "Oh! My gosh, Tae!" Jimin screamed when he saw Tae wasn't moving from his position, he was unconsciously lying on the floor and Jimin noticed a small stream of blood coming out of his head.
Without wasting a single minute, Jimin called an ambulance and put a wet towel under the senseless boy's head. He tried to call Jungkook but Jungkook had put his phone in silent so he dialed Yoongi's number but it was also switched off. He thought of calling his other friends but the ambulance arrived on time and he took Tae to the hospital.
Jimin was waiting patiently inside of the doctor's chamber. The middle aged doctor gave an injection first to bring back Tae's senses then patched the cut with some cotton and bandage. Ten minutes later the doctor noticed some movements in Tae's hands, he moved closer to him and started asking some questions, "Mr Tae, can you listen to me?"
Jimin who was sitting on a chair, also came closer to Tae, his small face seemed to have become smaller in concern. "Doctor, is he responding?"
The doctor shaked his head and again asked Tae, "Mr Tae, can you open up your eyes?"
Tae didn't open his eyes instead he parted his mouth to say something. It was inaudible at first but slowly became louder, "Come out, come out from there Lisa, Lisa come out from there, come out. Lisaaaaa!" He let out a high pitch scream and collapsed again.
"Doctor, is he alright? Why did he scream?" Jimin asked in a shaky voice, his heart was beating speedily and he felt so helpless that time because he wasn't able to do anything for his friend.
After five more minutes Tae finally opened his eyes, the first thing he saw was the doctor's usual emotionless face then Jimin's worried face. "Jiminie hyung, why am I here?" He was barely able to open his eyelids and went to sleep again.
"Don't worry he's just sleeping, he'll wake up soon." The doctor told Jimin and turned on the IV saline. "Please sit on the chair, I have some important things to discuss with you."
"Umm, doctor, is there any risk?" Jimin said while taking the seat.
"Not probably but can't say anything for now," The doctor also sat down on his chair and started explaining, "Look Mr Park, you said he lost his memories about twenty days ago. According to what I've seen, short time memory loss patients take more than two weeks to regain their memories, so it's about time that he'll remember things slowly or suddenly in one moment. By the way who is Lisa?"
"I have no idea, doctor, I'm hearing this name first for the time from him." Jimin replied
"Ah! I see, that means slowly his memories are coming back. It's a positive sign." The doctor showed Jimin a confident smile. "His brain had blocked all of those past memories, he is now living in a dream, all of the things he was observing or going through are like a dream to him. What I want to say is, there's a possibility that he can forget everything that happened in these twenty days, like a dream."
"I get it doctor, we'll take care of him until he recalls everything." Jimin sighed and bowed to the doctor and went outside.
Jimin was taking some prescribed medicines from the drug store when his phone vibrated. He took the call, "Hyung, you called me? I was busy in a meeting." Jungkook said from the other side.
"Yeah, umm, are you free now?" Jimin was hesitating to tell him everything, his duty hours weren't over yet.
"Yes, I'm free now, what happened?" Jungkook asked.
"Then can you come to the hospital?" Jimin took a long breath before saying, "actually Tae slipped on the floor and hit his head, the doc said he's alright but I'm feeling low right now. So can you manage?
"Oh! God! Which hospital?" Jungkook was not prepared for this so he panicked. "Hyung, is he really alright?"
"Kookie, don't worry, he's just sleeping. We're in the Remedy hospital, near our house." Jimin sighed again and cut the call.
It took Jungkook almost half an hour to reach the hospital. He went directly to the neurological ward and went inside the room Jimin massaged him. "Hyung, where's Tae?"
"Shushh! He's sleeping." Jimin pointed at Tae, who was on the daycare bed.
Jungkook felt so helpless seeing Tae on the hospital bed again like this. He was panting heavily because he came here as quickly as he could. He just wanted to embrace his sleeping boyfriend and kiss him on his eyes but he knew he couldn't do that right now. He looked up at Jimin with teary eyes.
Jimin knew what his brother was thinking so he held his hand and got him out of their daycare unit. "Kookie, the doctor told me to not disturb him until he wakes up, let's just wait in the waiting area, huh?" Jungkook just nodded and reluctantly did what Jimin said.
"Hey, don't worry, the doctor told me he's absolutely fine." Jimin said Jungkook to console him. They were sitting in the waiting zone. Jungkook was feeling so wretched that he couldn't say anything. "Kookie, I have something to tell you." Jimin said in a cheerless voice.
"What is it hyung?" Jungkook looked at Jimin with his full attention.
"Kookie, I know how much you feel for him. He's so sweet and cute, how can a person not notice him or like him but liking and loving are totally different things." Jimin took a long breath and continued, "you don't know him, Kookie. You don't know where and how he lived, who were his parents and most importantly if he was engaged or not."
"I know, but I couldn't control myself from loving him." Jungkook lowered his head.
"What if he has a girlfriend or wife and a child or two children? Kookie, you can't hold him back for these ten days sake, he'll eventually forget you, forget your love." Jimin put his hand on Jungkook's hand and pressed lightly.
"Are you telling me to break up with him?" Jungkook raised his head and looked directly at Jimin's eyes but this time his eyes were glittering with tears.
"No, no Kookie, I'm not telling you that. Listen, he screamed a name Lisa, subconsciously, so I'm guessing she could be his girlfriend or wife or maybe his sister. I don't know anything about him," Jimin paused for a moment to gather his thoughts, then said, "But I know you. I know how emotional you can be. I know that if Tae gets his memories back you'll be the happiest one and also you'll be the most unhappy one because he may not remember you."
"He can never forget me, I trust him." Jungkook didn't want to cry in public but a traitor tear didn't listen to him, it flowed from his eyes to his cheeks and landed on his hand.
"I wish he'd never forgotten you but until his memories come back, please don't engage with him more. If he really wants to stay with you only then you can take this relationship forward. If he wants to go, then you'll have to let him go, for his and your happiness." Jimin hugged his sobbing baby brother tightly and patted his back. He had done it once before when Eunwoo left his brother and now when Tae seemed to leave his brother alone again. He prayed to the Almighty that both of then could be together forever.
"Tae, how are you buddy? Here, I brought the strawberry milkshake you liked at my home, drink it up." Yoongi said and handed Tae a huge paper packet of milkshake. "I was busy the whole day, so couldn't come earlier. How are you feeling now?" It was past ten o'clock, all of the four men gathered on the dining table to have their last meal of the day.
"Thank you," Tae replied when receiving the packet. "I'm feeling much better now." He smiled a little.
"Don't worry you'll get better soon." Yoongi smiled heartily at him and then he turned to Jimin, "Jiminah, let's go to a BBQ restaurant tomorrow night, our Tae loves chicken, right."
"Yeah, sure." Jimin tried to smile but his smile didn't reach his eyes.
"Kookie, you remember the burnt cell phone which we found in that guest house?" Yoongi asked Jungkook after sipping some soup, "our engineer repaired it almost fifty percent. We can see through it's whole storage by tomorrow." Yoongi smiled proudly.
"That's good. I want to solve this case as quickly as possible." Jungkook said but didn't look up. His eyes were fixed on his rice bowl like he was searching a treasure in it.
"Yeah, me too but our Tae's getting back his memories would be exceptionally good." Yoongi showed his gummy smile and patted Tae's shoulder to cheer him more but none of the other two boys said a word. Jungkook clenched his jaw and Jimin looked at his brother sympathetically. "Why is everyone silent here?" Yoongi asked in confusion.
Tae was sitting beside Jungkook, he was looking at him from time to time but Jungkook wasn't looking at him like before. He couldn't forget the way his boyfriend looked at him before coming back from the hospital but now he wasn't even talking to him. Tae thought of something, he slowly put his one foot on Jungkook's and seductively started moving it upwards. When Jungkook didn't respond, he raised it more and pressed gently.
"I'm done, excuse me everyone." Jungkook stood up and instantly headed to his room. Tae felt like someone had just distorted his heart. He got up from his chair, bowed before Jimin and Yoongi, then quickly went to his boyfriend's room.
He slowly closed the door and came near Jungkook. "Kookie, why didn't you eat today?" Tae asked and delicately put his hand to Jungkook's forehead. Jungkook was sitting on his bed, folding his knees. When Tae came in, he turned his head to the window and tried to distract his mind. "Kookie, are you mad at me? Have I done something wrong?" Tae sat down on the bed resting his chin on his Kookie's knees and hugging his thighs loosely.
Jungkook wanted to release his legs from Tae's grip but his touch on his skin made him weak instead he released a breath that he was holding for sometime. "Tae, I think we should stop here." Jungkook felt his heart was becoming heavy and empty at the same time, heavy because of sadness, empty because of tiredness.
"Why? Did I do something wrong?" Tae's voice was becoming heavier.
"No, it's me, I selfishly proposed to you and selfishly am breaking up with you. It's all my fault." Jungkook's eyes were emotionless and his voice was stiff. He closed his eyes to gather all his strength together and he got up from his bed. "Don't think too much Tae and don't blame yourself, just take some rest. I'll talk to you tomorrow." Jungkook saw the bewildered look on Tae's face when he forcefully detached himself from him but he needed some time to rethink on this matter, so he quickly moved out of the room living Tae alone.
As soon as the door closed, Tae curled up over Jungkook's pillow, started chewing on his lower lip and his eyes welled up with tears. Jungkook told him not to blame himself but how couldn't he do that? He tried to claim the moon while he was nothing but a lost boy. Sleep came to him much later when the stars began to fade slowly and a tint of light gets visible at the east portion of the sky.
