I could of sworn it was no more then seasonal allergies. I mean all the symptoms where there. The cough, sneezing, sore throat, running nose. Everything was fine. She was fine... That was until the fever broke. 126.7° the doctor said he'd seen nothing like it. Out of the ordinary. They suggested it just being maybe an allergic reaction to something, but even so the fever was off the chart. She was sent to hospital immediately. They said maybe Sepsis, a life-threatening complication from an infection. Its when your body releases a variety of compounds into your bloodstream to help fight infection. This can sometimes produce a severe inflammatory response that can lead to organ damage and failure. They got her stable with fluids. I waited in the room. 32 hours later is when everything became clear... When my mom...wasnt my mom. It all started when she woke and slurred out in agony that her legs began to tingle and soon couldnt feel them. She said it moved up her legs. Eventually all feeling was lost. Nurses rotated every 5 hours taking shifts to watch her and try and get her to eat. With every effort she refused. Hour after hour she was loss for words. She soon stopped talking. She was placed in critical care and visitations were terminated. Those last 24 hours I saw nothing but pain...I was watching my moms final moments of life.
