• Chapter 4 •

"I'm sorry, do you two know each other?" Elizabeth looked at them both in confusion, as both Benedict and Melody tried to cope with shock of seeing each other after eleven years.

"Um, Liz, why don't you... go out to the back and..." Melody slowly walked up to till where Elizabeth was. "... tidy up. I'll deal with this costumer." Elizabeth sighed, listening to Melody and made her way to the kitchen.

"Well... Been a while Mels..." Benedict sighed and stuffed his hands into his pockets.

"Yes..." There was an awkward moment of silence. "You... wanted to talk to me?"

"Hmm?"

"The cake?" Melody glanced at the box, trying to remind him of why he was here.

"Oh! Yes, sorry... It doesn't matter." Melody smiled.

"No, you let me-"

"No, seriously Mels. It's okay. I'll make up some kind of excuse." Melody and Benedict stared at each other for a few minutes but then their stare was broken another costumer walking in through the door.

"Good morning, sorry, give me one moment... Liz! Costumer!" Elizabeth stomped her way from the kitchen as Melody took off her apron and grabbed her coat.

"Mels, where are you going?" Melody made her way over the counter and walked towards the door.

"Just going out on my... break. See you in a bit! Come on, Ben." Benedict and Melody paced out of the door, leaving Elizabeth to deal with costumers.

"So, Mels... how have you been?" Melody tightened her coat around herself as they walked down the street.

"I've been good. Just very busy. How about you?"

"Good too, thanks. You haven't changed, just... put on a bit of weight..."

"Hey!" Melody lightly pushed Benedict and he began to laugh. "Good, old times, huh?"

"Yes..."

"You know, I swear that your mother did come in the other day, but... she must have slipped my mind. Why are you returning the chocolate cake? I thought you loved chocolate?" Benedict saw a bench and they both sat down, Melody slowly easing herself onto it.

"Oh..." Benedict frowned.

"You all right?" Melody looked at Benedict, again faking a smile.

"Yeh, fine." He knew she was lying but thought it was polite not to ask or poke into her business.

"I love chocolate, it's just for a friend." Melody's ears perked up, wondering who it was.

"A friend?"

"Yes, my... girlfriend... Karen." Melody's smile drooped.

"Oh, right. You have a girlfriend. Good for you."

"What about you? Anyone special in your life?" Melody snorted.

"I wouldn't say special. I do though. He's my fiancee, we are... getting married soon. Name's Alex." Benedict smirked.

"I always said that you would find a good guy. Alex is extremely lucky to marry... you." Melody grinned at Benedict.

"Well, thank you for the compliment."

"It's no problem. I'm telling the truth though. I mean it Mels." Both of them gazed at each other, Melody's hair flowing with the sudden burst of breeze. She quickly tucked her hair behind her ear.

"You know it was only yesterday-" Their conversation was broken by the sudden ring of Benedict's phone. Benedict cringed, apologising for the interruption.

"Sorry..." He took a deep breath, putting the phone on his ear. "Hello?" Benedict put his right leg over his left leg, sitting like a girl, Melody chuckled and he dragged his arms over Melody's head.

"Hello Benedict dear! Where are you? I thought you were only popping to the cake shop?" Wanda knew that he must have ran into Melody.

"I will be home soon, see you in a bit Mum."

"Okay dear." She smiled, putting the phone down.

"Was it Wanda?" Benedict sighed.

"Yes, I am sorry, Mother calls, mustn't say no!" Melody smiled, getting up with Benedict.

"Yes, I know the feeling. I have a suggestion, why don't you come over for Christmas dinner? Bring your parents, if you want, your girlfriend... And I'll invite my sister and my Mum probably. But, here is the catch, you come over early to help me cook." Benedict bit his lip. "Yes?"

"Yes. I would be honoured Mels."

"Well, there you go then."

"Here's my number, text me the address and I'll see you then." Melody took a piece of paper from Benedict, tucking it onto his pocket. "See you Mels."

"Bye Ben." Benedict walked away making his way to his car and Melody walked back to her shop.

Benedict and Melody were both joyous to see each other and couldn't wait to collide once again on Christmas day.
