• Chapter 26 •
"Ben, seriously, you don't have to!" Benedict groaned.
"I... do..." His voice increased in volume when, finally, he was stood in front in Melody, heaving the television. "Here okay?" Melody smirked, rubbing her baby bump.
"Yes, yes it is. Thank you Ben."
"My pleasure Mels." He dusted his clothes and made his way onto the bed, sitting up by Melody. He let out a sigh, his breathing calmer. "D-do you... want to go through some other stuff?" Melody turned her head toward Benedict, rubbing her bump.
"Yes... I'd like that." Benedict was about to get up, until Melody placed her hand on his. He instantly looked at her. "You... can sit down though." Benedict shook his head.
"No, Mels. Stay here, rest. I'm looking after you. You are my duty of care right now." He simpered at Melody and pulled out a box from under the bed. He huffed and puffed and placed the box in the bed, Melody crawling towards it.
"Wow, Mum, really loved keeping old memories..." Melody chuckled, taking out a frame. A dusty one. She blew it,dust particles mixing with the air.
"Mels, I remember that one!" Benedict cried out. "You told me, that, your Mother had gone on and on about your studies and you wanted to just stop her, hence the sour lemon face!" Benedict and Melody giggled.
"Yes, Mother would moan... but she was the best." Benedict wrapped an arm around Melody, her head leaning in his shoulder.
"Hey... I'm not saying she wasn't..." Melody sighed, her bottom lip trembling for a moment.
"Why... did Mother have to... go like that?" Benedict began to stroke Melody's hair, tears slowly rolling down her cheek.
"Look, I'm sorry... I really am, your Mother was amazing and now... she's gone. I'm really sorry." Melody frowned, wiping her tears.
"Why are you apologising?" Benedict opened his mouth, Melody still talking. "You are my bloody best friend. You are the one who has stuck by me for the past weeks and... I am grateful." She simpered at her dear friend, who felt guilty about bringing all these past memories back to her.
"I shouldn't have... brought you here. Memories..." Benedict bowed his head, Melody grabbing his face and he finally looked at her. Stared at her.
"No, Ben. Don't ever think like that. You bringing me here... has really helped me..." Melody grabbed hold of his hand. "You came to me when nobody else would. This day... means so much. So if anything, I should be thanking you." She simpered at Benedict, who really cherished her. Everything that she had been through, Benedict had been there. Even if the gap was twelve years apart, who cares? They were still best friends.
Benedict turned himself towards Melody, wanting to confess his love.
"Mels."
"Ben."
"I... wanted to say... that I l-" the bell began to ring. "I lo-" Melody closed an eye.
"Maybe... you should get that? Before we leave on a cliffhanger?" She giggled, Benedict letting out a sigh.
"Yeh... I should." Dusting his jeans, he made his ways towards the door and Melody lay back, biting the top of her fingers and a smile played on her lips.
She knew that he was in the brink of confessing his love for her, and when that happened, halle-flipping-lujah.
At least that is what you're thinking right?
Benedict made his way to the door, sighing. He combed his fingers through his hair and opened his the door.
"Afternoon, my dear Ben!" Wanda threw her arms around Benedict, hugging him tightly. "Thank you for letting us know... about... you know, dear Melody's Mother. She will be remembered." Benedict bowed his head and Melody had appeared behind Benedict, Wanda rushing towards her and she took her hands.
"Hiya Mrs Cumberbatch."
"Hello dear." She hugged Melody and whispered into her ear. "Sorry about your Mother. Me and Tim thought it was polite to come and... help you." She simpered slightly, touching her bump.
"Well, thank you. Both of you. It means so very much." Timothy smiled and patted his son's back.
"Well, it is nice to know that Benedict finally has someone to go to. Thank you for being his friend Melody."
"It's a pleasure being a friend to such an amazingly kind man..." She glanced at Benedict, smiling for a moment. "Shall I get the tea on for you both?" Wanda took off her coat.
"Well, if you don't mind Melody. Actually... Benedict, get in that kitchen and help her!" Benedict and Melody chuckled, both of them going into the kitchen. Benedict had laid out the cups, tea and sugar for Melody and all she needed to do was boil water.
Melody knocked her knuckles onto the counter, waiting for the steam to waft out of the kettle.
"So... Mels..." Melody picked up the kettle, pouring the hot water into the cups. "About before..." She sighed.
"Sorry, Ben, can we... deal with this later? If you don't mind?"
"Of course." Melody added the milk, stirring the cup.
"Take this, it's your Dad's." She handed the cup to Benedict, who rushed inside. Wanda wandered into the kitchen, looking around as Melody stirred her cup of tea.
"Gosh, everything looks... just like it was all those years ago."
"Mother always kept things looking the best..." Wanda smiled, rubbing Melody's back.
"Well, you listen to me Melody dear... If you need that motherly advice, don't even hesitate to ask me okay?"
"Thank you for that offer Mrs Cumberbatch."
"Oh please, it is Wanda dear. Wanda."
"Wanda... Thank you. Thank you for bringing up a son who takes after his lovely Mother..." Wanda smiled, pecking her on her cheek.
"Now, now we are on the subject. Benedict. Dear Ben. I think I might need to give you some motherly advice right now..." Melody frowned, knowing that Wanda had noticed.
"What? Sorry, I don't understand."
"I'm sure you do Melody. I know how you feel about him. It hasn't changed since the day both of you parted for twelve years..." It was finally noticeable "You love my son, don't you?" Melody immediately locked her eyes onto Wanda's.
"... Yes Wanda. I do."
