• Chapter 23 •
"Through here then..." Benedict took a left after he'd been through the door.
Melody held onto his hand, giggling.
"I'm surprised after twelve years, you still know your way around." Benedict smiled, dragging Melody upstairs. "I haven't been here for about two years and I don't remember!"
"Well, we all know who got old..." Melody gasped and lightly smacked Benedict as they both chuckled. After a whale of walking up the stairs, Melody panted, arching her arms into her back.
"Hey... I'm not... old..." Benedict lifted an eyebrow, watching Melody's breathlessness.
"Look who's talking..." Melody smiled.
"You know, you weren't this cheeky before... Maybe that Karen... Did something to you..." Melody regretted everything. She hated the fact that she had turned up with Alex when it should have been him the whole time.
"Yeh, well..." Benedict ran his fingers through his hair, stepping in front of Melody. "I... hate her." Melody slightly frowned, even though in a way this was a good thing for her.
"W-what do you mean?" Benedict scoffed, placing his hand onto the doorknob.
"Never mind... I shouldn't be bringing this up when... your Mother is gone..." Melody curled her bottom lip and grabbed Benedict's shoulder.
"Ben..." She looked deep into Benedict's eyes. "We are friends... You know you can tell me anything..." She gave him a warm smile and Benedict let out a sigh.
"Anyway, don't know if you remember this..." He turned the doorknob and the door slowly opened. Melody covered her mouth with her hand.
"Oh my gosh... Mum kept it all..."
This room was a special something.
"Even your little obsessive teddy bear..." He picked up an old chewed up rabbit.
"He is a rabbit! Not a teddy bear, don't insult him." She giggled, Benedict tucking his hands into his pockets. He scratched his ear and picked up a photo frame.
"Hey, Mels. Look..."
"What... Oh..." Benedict wrapped one of his arms around Melody's waist.
"It's... us."
"Graduation. Haha, look at your face." Melody began to laugh, resting her head on his shoulder. A tear formed in her eye. Benedict looked down at Melody, frowning.
"What is it?"
"Nothing... Just a little dust in my eye..."
"Let me see." Melody lifted her head up.
"It's... nothing..." Benedict blew her eye lightly.
"Better?"
"Better... Thank you..." She wiped her eye, looking up at Benedict. "I... I miss this days." Benedict slightly smiled.
"Me too Mels... Those days we'd come running late from university."
"And Mum would go crazy every time we were late!"
"But, she'd let us off anyway!" Benedict and Melody pondered on past thoughts. Both of them would give anything for the past to come flooding back. "I'd... do anything for things to go back to the way they were..."
"Yeh..." Melody sniffed. "But... It's gone..." Her mouth drooped. "So has... Mum..." Benedict looked at Melody, pulling her into his chest.
"Hey... I know..." Benedict scrunched his eyes together. "I shouldn't have asked you to do this..."
"No... I... want to..." She rubbed his back lightly then pulled herself away from him. Her lip brushed against his, she knew it was wrong. Both of knew it was wrong. They had to resist their temptation. "Ben..." She whispered. Benedict was mesmerised by Melody, he wanted it to happen too. Fall in love with the one girl. The one girl he couldn't have. Was that right to think?
"Mels..." He whispered back and held her hands. Before their lips had touched, Melody had moved away and Benedict let out a sigh.
"I... We... should make some lunch... I'm starving actually." Benedict nodded his head slowly and Melody made a swift exit.
She closed the door on her way out and thought about that moment. So did Benedict.
Melody loved him. It was official. She knew that she should have told him twelve years ago. But, it was too late. Benedict moved on.
On the other hand, Benedict ran his hands over his face and stared at the door. Now, it was his turn.
His turn to realise what his feelings were.
He loved her.
He had wanted her for all these years. But, he didn't know if she loved him back. We all know the true story.
From that moment, he'd keep that thought inside him. Think about this: should he have he told her all those years ago? Would it have made a difference?
Would it be a good idea to tell her now? Should either of them confess feelings they had just confirmed?
Of course, your answer would be yes. After everything you have read.
But now, enough questions, we must carry on. Time for food, I'm hungry already. I hear that Benedict is a great cook, according to Melody.
