December 20th 2013 - Kensington, London
"To Mr and Mrs Adams!" A huge crowd of people raised their glasses and cheered as Melody and her fiancee, Alex, took a sip of their drink.
"Sooner or later, it will be Mr and Mrs Fellows..." Melody whispered as she attempted to keep her wide smile on her face.
"We'll see about that honey." Alex smiled at Melody and gave a quick peck on her cheek. "Oh, there's Max. I need to see him, you all right on your own?" Melody nodded, smiling at him as her fiancee walked away and hugged his friend. Melody began to take large gulps of her orange juice and was constantly filling up her glass. She felt somebody pinch her, and she quickly turned around.
"Hello dear Melody!" Melody gulped down her juice hard and stared at the champagne glass, which her mother in law, Patricia, was holding. "Ah, remember Melody, you must stay away from alcohol. We want to see that baby of yours good and healthy!" Patricia smiled at Melody as she took a sip of her drink.
"Are you enjoying the party Mrs Adams?" Patricia sighed, placing her hand onto Melody's back.
"Dear, I told you. It's Pat to you. And yes, I am enjoying this party. I just wanted to say, thank you for making my son so happy."
"Well, Pat, it is my job. I am his fiancee..." Melody gazed at Alex and so he looked back at her raising his glass with a big grin on his face. "... Excuse me for a moment." Melody began to make her way to the toilets as she felt some sick crawl up her throat. She knew that this was the consequence of becoming pregnant, the small case of sickness. Rushing to the bathroom, she covered her mouth holding the sick in her mouth, but then accidentally swallowing it. "Ergh..." Melody gulped over and over again to try and get rid of that sickly taste in her mouth. Suddenly, she heard another set of footsteps make her way into the toilets. She quickly turned seeing her friend, Elizabeth walk up to the sink.
"Oh hey Mels. You all right? I saw you rush in here." Melody smiled, ruffling her hair.
"Yeh Liz, just some sickness." Elizabeth reached into her bag, taking out some eyeliner.
"So, all ready for tomorrow? We have some big orders in at the shop." Melody sighed, turning herself towards Elizabeth.
"Well, I think I just need to add the finishing touches to some cakes and..." Melody couldn't help but notice that Elizabeth was eyeing her necklace. "You like it?"
"Yes! Who gave it to you?" Melody smirked and she began to fiddle with it.
"Just... an old friend of mine..."
June 19th 1999 - Later that evening in the Fellows' house.
"Well... I assume there was a reason behind my invite tonight." Benedict smiled at Melody who was urgently fiddling around in her dress pockets for the one thing she was going to give him.
"Yes... I... Ahh, got it." Melody pulled out a key ring from her pocket and handed it to Benedict. "We are best friends and I hope we stay that way..." She simpered at Benedict as he couldn't take his eyes off the key ring. The letters BFF carved into it with red keys for decoration. Benedict smiled, stroking it. "Do you like it?"
"Like it? I love it Mels, thank you." Benedict pecked Melody on her cheek and she bowed her head in disappointment. "Sorry, was that..."
"No, it's fine... I just... Hmm..." Benedict bit his lip and stuffed his hands into his pocket, a rough object poking his hand. He slightly smiled, taking it out.
"Here you go." Melody frowned, edging closer towards him.
"What is that?" It was a necklace with a silver heart and diamonds covering it. It was just perfect.
"Just a small gift from me to you. May I?" Benedict unclasped the necklace, which had fitted perfectly on Melody's neck. She began to jump up in excitement like a little girl and she threw her arms around Benedict.
"Thank you, thank you!" Benedict and Melody began to chuckle, and they both hugged each other tightly as this was probably the last hug they were going to have.
And both of them were right. It was the last hug they had, for nearly twelve years.
"Melody?" Melody quickly looked at Elizabeth, who looked slightly worried.
"I-I-I'm fine. I'll see you at the cake shop, bright and early." Melody cracked up a small smile, before leaving the toilets and clutching the necklace that Benedict had gave her.
