• Chapter 13 •
"Wait..." Melody began to scramble for her things and she pulled her dress back onto her shoulders. "What do you mean she is in hospital?" Melody sighed.
"I... I don't know." She sat on the bed next to Alex. "But I need to go and see her. She is my Mother." Alex put his hand onto his cheek, knowing his plan had definitely failed or was on the brink of failure.
"W-why don't I... come with you?" Melody shook her head, pleading him to stay in the nicest possible way.
"I... I want to see her alone. Stay here and wait for my call." He dropped his head. "Okay?" Licking his lips, he replied.
"Okay." He kissed her on her lips, some lipstick stained on his. Melody got up quickly. Her mind was focused on her Mother and if she was all right. Before exiting the house, Alex called out to her. "Melody, at least let me drive you."
"No. I've called a cab..." Her voice trailed off, as she saw Benedict's many missed calls, which she knew she should have answered. "... I need to go!" Melody ran outside, Alex closing the door, with a sigh of relief, since he was home alone. A hint of anger hid in his sigh also, as Melody has suddenly ran off to the hospital.
Melody paced outside, all of a sudden, she slipped in the snow, landing on her front. She lay still for a moment, then groaned with some pain. Her baby kicked a few times and she got up from the ground slowly, breathing heavily.
"Ah... argh..." She put her hand on the baby bump, trying to calm it down. Out the blue, a cab horned, Melody rushing inside and telling the driver where to go. Afterwards, she grabbed her phone out of her bag, calling Benedict. "Ben, hey! I-I just heard about that happened to Mom."
"Yes, I know. Mels, I'm sorry." Melody frowned.
"Why are you sorry?"
"I should have stuck by you... If you never met me again this wouldn't have happened..." Benedict bowed his head, feeling slightly guilty. Melody knew it wasn't his fault.
"Ben. You listen to me very carefully. I am so..." She took a deep breath, attempting to deal with both internal and external pain. "... fucking happy that I ran into you again. You are my best friend... and Mother would have wanted you here." She simpered slightly, whimpering.
"Mels... Is everything all right?" She lay the phone by her side for a moment, breathing in and out as the cab driver looked worried also.
"Everything all right ma'am?" Melody sniffed, nodding her head.
"... Mels? Are you... okay?"
"I, I'm fine... Listen, where... are you?" Benedict took a sharp right, entering the hospital car park.
"I just entered the car park, I'll wait for you there okay?" Melody spoke back, her voice shivering. "Mels, please... she's going to be okay."
"I hope so Ben..." Melody put down her phone and desperately waited to arrive at the hospital. Around seven minutes later, she arrived, hurrying out the cab and paying the driver. She quickly saw Ben, making her way to him.
"Hey Mels, you all right?" She grabbed Benedict's shoulder and squeezed it.
"... I... I... I just want to see how Mom is." Benedict nodded his head and grabbed hold of Melody's hand.
They literally ran inside, however, Melody took her time but still tried to rush. Benedict and Melody made their way to the from desk, panting.
"E-e-excuse me." The woman at the front made eye contact with them both.
"Yes, how can I help?"
"My Mother... apparently she was involved... in an accident, may I have the details?"
"Name?" Melody dropped her head, Benedict answering for her.
"Her Mother's name is Amelia Fellows. This lovely lady next to me, is her daughter, Melody Fellows." He smiled at her, Melody also smiling, even though she was slightly out of breath.
"Amelia... Fellows... Yes. I have her." Benedict and Melody moved closer to her, listening carefully. "She was involved in a rather unfortunate car accident, which occurred around one hour ago."
"What happened?"
"... We do not know for sure, but your Mother, Amelia was seriously injured. We do not know if she will survive her injuries but, it will be up to her." Melody's eyes began to fill up with tears but she still had the courage go speak.
"W-will I be able to see her?"
"Not at the moment. If you wait here, I will update you as soon as I can." Melody turned away, Benedict thanking the women and he followed her.
He knew at this moment in time, Melody needed him, so he would stand by her in these hard times.
