Chapter - 6 :His Condition
I was lost in the moment of the past, when a loud shout broke my reverie. Vineet was out in the garden playing in the rain, the same way as she used to do six months back. I rushed out and saw Vineet lying on the floor. He might have slipped on the wet floor. He was just a little kid such that he wasn't listening to me.
I rushed towards Vineet and went tensed when I found him unconscious. I also got worried when I found his hand on an electric wire that had fallen on the ground. I was worried that he might be hurt more. Tears brimmed out of eyes as I began patting his cheeks to wake him up.
Vineet wasn't coming back to conscious and so I decided to take him to the hospital. I lifted him and laid him on the back seat of the car. I got my purse, locked the house and drove towards the hospital. I also called the doctor who was treating Vineet, he assured me that Vineet will be fine soon.
As I reached the hospital, I got quick help and Vineet was shifted into the emergency ward. Doctor Shah, who was Vineet's doctor, asked me to wait outside the ward. He went inside while I was pacing in the corridor. I was worried for Vineet. What if he forgets me again? What if he doesn't recognize me? What if he denied staying with me? What will I do without him? I can't leave him in the state he is. I just prayed for his well being . I also hoped that he might recover any memory of his past as well.
I was worried, tears brimming in my eyes, when the doctor came out and called for me.
"Mrs. Singhaniya, it's good news! Maybe aapke liye isse zyada khushi ki baat aur koi nahi ho sakti." he said.
"Vineet thik hai na doctor? I mean usey zyada chot toh nahi aayi na?" I asked ignoring his words.
The doctor smiled… " your prayers are working Mrs. Singhaniya. Waise toh wo apni beeti zindagi bhul chuke hai, lekin ab se wo aaj ki baaten store kar payenge. Aapko har roz unhe har cheez batani nahi padegi." he said.
I was trying to grasp his words..
"Matlab kya hai doctor?" i asked.
"matlab ye hai ki aaj aap jo bhi unhe batayengi, unhe yaad rahega. You can start your life afresh with your husband, Mrs Singhaniya. I'm sure aapke sath rahenge toh jaldi thik ho jayenge." he said.
I smiled, finally. He will be fine. He will remember me as his wife. I won't need to teach him everyday. Though he'll be weak, but I'll heal him with my love. I thanked the doctor…
" Thank you doctor. Can I meet Vineet? " I asked.
He nodded affirmatively, I fulfilled the formalities and moved to meet Vineet. He was awake and staring at the wall. I moved towards him and he looked at me blankly..
"pehchante ho mujhe?" I asked.
He looked at me like a kid…
"tum…tum meri dost ho na?" he asked in a meek tone.
"Haan, tumhari dost bhi aur tumhari wife bhi." I said.
He looks at me blankly, he had forgotten everything about our wedding, about our friends and that accident which took my Vineet away from me. I made him sit, he looked at me..
"ghar jana hai." he said.
I smiled, he didn't want to stay in the hospital. This habit was intact from past. I nodded affirmatively, and after the doctor checked up Vineet, we moved towards home. On the way, I had to buy his medicines, and after that we reached home. It was again raining, and Vineet was silently watching the rain.
As we reached home, I unlocked the door and asked him to sit on the couch while I got water for him. I gave him the first dose of medicine. He took it without any nuisance. I smiled and turned to move, when he held my wrist…
" tum mujhe akela kyun nahi chhod deti?" he asked.
"Kaise chod dun? Tumhari tabiyat thik nahi hai. Aise kaise chhod dun?" I asked.
He will again say that I must leave him and live my life. But how can I live without him? I felt his gaze fixed at me.
"Lekin main tumhe pareshan karta hoon na. Mujhe toh kuch yaad bhi nahi aata." he said dejectedly.
I sighed and kept my hands on his shoulders…
"Relax Vineet. Hum nayi yaadein banayenge. Wo yaadein jo tum kabhi nahi bhuloge." saying so I hugged him.
He wrapped his arms around me but said something that left me shocked. I broke the hug and looked at him, but he was calm and I didn't know what to reply to him.
To Be Continued.
