4: Time To Stop Avoiding

A faint smile made its way onto Loki's lips. "Well, then let me introduce myself. I am Loki of Asgard."

"Katha." She replied, then rolled her tongue around in her mouth. "That's gonna take some getting used to."

Loki chuckled, and looked around.

"So, what now?" Katha asked.

"Now, I have to fix this." Loki gestured to the mess.

"Wait, what?" Katha blinked.

"All of this has to get reassembled before you can wake up. Otherwise the memories will be without order." Loki said.

"Oh. So this is my actual brain?"

"In a sense."

"Does that mean that I potentially made myself go insane?"

"That is correct."

"Oops."

Loki massaged his forehead.

"So, um, what do I do?" Katha asked.

Loki looked at her for minute, trying to calculate the results of allowing her to assist him. He decided eventually, and they began by righting shelves.

"So, what if you're just joking with me, about the whole soul thing?" Katha huffs as they fix a shelf.

"I swear that I'm not." Loki said.

Katha narrowed her eyes. "Prove it."

"I swear upon the Norns that I am not joking or lying about your current state of existence." Loki said intricately.

"The Norns?" Katha tilted her head a little.

"Like the Fates, just, Asgardian." Loki explained.

"Oh." Katha said, and tripped on her dress, falling to the ground. "Goddammit!" She exclaimed, and wrestled with the fabric, trying to stand up. "Why is there so much?"

Loki watched her struggle for a moment. "You're doing it wrong."

"Doing what wrong?" Katha glared at him.

"The whole, standing 'thing'." Loki commented.

"Like you'd know." Katha glared at the dress.

"Unfortunately, some noble ladies think it's charming when they faint." Loki said, though he wasn't lying, it wasn't the full truth. He then instructed Katha. "Alright, stop trying to stand, you have too much skirt on the ground."

Katha looked at him with an incredulous expression. "How am I going to stand if I stop trying to stand?"

"I wasn't finished. Have patience." Loki chided, and somehow, he managed to get Katha back on her feet.

"Why are dresses like this even... Legal? They're death traps." Katha grumbled under her breath.

"You'll understand eventually." Loki replied.

Katha grumbled unintelligibly. Then she felt like an idiot, and focused on trying to change her clothes. She did change them, but forgot that girls 'needed' extra undergarments. Loki made sure that he was busy somewhere else while she figured out how that worked.

In jeans, tennies, and a t-shirt, she felt much more like herself. Or like Percy? Dam, this was going to get super confusing really fast.

They got back to work, tidying up her mind and hopefully ensuring her sanity. When they would take a minute for a break, Katha would usually end up examining a memory, and misplacing it when she was done. When Loki caught her doing it, he dashed forward and fixed it, before looking to her in exasperation. "You are a menace to yourself, you realize this, right?"

Katha gave a signature puppy-dog-innocent-not-quite-but-sure shrug. Loki sighed, and noted the progress that had been made. He was tired, and he ought to take a break. A real one, not one within her mindscape.

Then he wondered what to do. He couldn't just leave her here, she'd mess things up again. And he couldn't wake her up because they weren't finished. It would still take a few days to complete.

"What are you thinking? That's a thinking face." Katha asked.

"I can't leave you here, not with that attention span of yours."

"What, I can't stay in my own head?"

"No, most definitely not."

"Okay, I think I earned that."

"You did." Loki confirmed.

"So what are we gonna do with me?" Katha asked.

Loki had an idea. "I can make a specific mindscape for you to occupy within my mind."

"That sounds like a good idea and a bad idea." Katha noted.

"It should do just fine." Loki said, and began to prepare.

~~~~~~
Percy visited his twin more often than people thought he did. Once he was feeling well enough to vapour travel again, he did so. It was a way to burn off some of his godly energy. He went to the gym a lot as well, and sparred with Steve. The soldier no longer felt he had to hold back.
It was a coping mechanism for Steve. Not a healthy one, for sure, but a way all the same. Sometimes Natasha, Clint, and Annabeth would join. Tony would come for a little bit and they would try to teach him some form of self-defense, but it wasn't his forte.
The demigods had returned to Camp.  Not because they didn't like the tower, but because the Camps needed them. The cabins rearranging themselves was a large factor. Percy took to dropping Annabeth off at the border and picking her up via vapour travel, avoiding talking to the other campers as much as possible.
It wasn't that he didn't like them, he just didn't want to hear their judgement, or be treated differently. He was still Percy Jackson. They couldn't take that from him, no one could.
Speaking of that, Percy talked to Annabeth, and approached Tony. He didn't want to upset his uncle, but he feared his mother more. And she deserved more than what Percy was doing now. Tony had taken it well, and agreed with them. He pulled Percy in for a tight hug, and released him with a soft smile.
"Tell her I send my love," Tony said, lightly.
"And your money." Percy joked.
"Who doesn't want a bit of both?" Tony grinned.
Percy laughed as they waved goodbye. Before he could leave, he had to check in again with his sister. When he entered the room, he saw Natasha watching intently with a hard, protective gaze. He followed that look and found Loki leaning against the wall heavily.
Loki straightened after a few seconds, and took a few careful steps over to some food that Thor had probably left for him. He drank the water quickly, and then started in on some of the food. Percy wondered if the other god had noticed his presence yet. So he refilled Loki's glass with water.
The god looked at it, and then turned to see Percy. He raised an eyebrow in question. Percy stepped beside Natasha's chair. With one hand Loki picked up the glass, and nodded to Percy, the other hand supporting him as he stood beside the table.
"So how's it going?" Percy asked.
"Well, it will take a few more days at the least to repair her mind, and then some while after that for her to adjust." Loki answered.
"What do you mean, adjust?" Natasha asked.
"Well, she has all of your memories, Perseus. Took a lot of convincing to get her to believe she wasn't Percy Jackson." Loki said.
"She thinks she's me?" Percy blinked.
"Partially. Her first words to me where nearly the same as yours." Loki smirked in amusement.
"Oh." Percy said.
"Back to adjusting. What will that involve?" Natasha asked.
"I'm going to set up a... Barrier, veil, of sorts, that should help. It will essentially dissociate her from your memories, Perseus." Loki explained. "In order for it to work, though, she needs time for it to properly set in without being disturbed. She'll have to be away from things that would trigger Perseus' memories. This tower and your camp, for example."
"So we have to go to some other place?" Percy asked.
"We? I hope you don't mean yourself, Perseus." Loki said.
"Why not? She's my sister, my twin-"
"If your memories can trigger her insanity, what do you think your presence will do?" Loki inquired.
Percy's shoulders sagged. "So I won't even get to talk to her for a while, huh?"
"No. It won't be permanent, though." Loki said.
Percy walked over to his sister, and held her hand for a moment. He assured himself that he wasn't leaving her, and that he was just going to wait for her to be ready. Then he told Natasha that he was going for a while, and she gave him a brief hug, much to his surprise.
Not much later, Percy and Annabeth were standing outside the door to Percy's apartment. He knocked on the door, and didn't even try to ready himself for what was to come, because he knew from experience that nothing could go against Sally Jackson.
She crushed him in a hug, and he returned it as tightly as he could without hurting her.
"I heard about that man on the TV, he took Tony! I mean, obviously he's back, but still! What did he have to do with you?" Sally demanded. Annabeth slipped past them and went to help Paul, who was multitasking.
Percy sighed and ran a hand through his hair. He gestured to the couches, and Sally quickly sat down, intently waiting for her son to continue. Percy tried to figure out where to start, and then remembered what she had just asked him about.
"That guy on the TV, that was a host. For Tartarus." Percy began. He told her about how he had fallen into Tartarus with Annabeth, and how they had escaped. He left out the more gruesome details, he didn't want to hurt her any more than he had to.
And then he got to the part that would be the hardest. "Mom, I didn't survive the base collapse because of luck."
Sally's heart skipped a few beats. "What do you mean?"
"The gods, they did something. You have to promise you won't do anything." Percy said. By this time, Annabeth and Paul had joined them at the couches.
Annabeth took one of Percy's hands into her own, and held it comfortingly. Sally and Paul both looked nervous. Sally hesitated. "Percy-"
"Promise, Mom. You have to promise." Percy said, his eyes getting damp.
Sally stared at Percy for a moment. She took a breath, and reluctantly said, "I promise."
~~~~~~

That evening held a lot of tears and sniffles, nose blowing and hugs. That night Sally fell asleep buried in Paul's arms. In Percy's room, the young man drifted off with Annabeth holding him close.

Tony got the two into a program that would help Percy catch up with school, and get Annabeth supported for the business world. He had JARVIS adaptions partnered with Valdez tech in order to make the dyslexia barrier non-existent, what with the nearly perfect translator.

Sally loved having Percy back, and Percy was thankful that he got to be with her again. He had missed her more than he realized. Percy wound up taking Annabeth on dates, and often Sally would accompany the couple for lunch.

Unknown to all of them, in a few weeks Sally would be announcing her pregnancy.

~~~~~~
Loki had never had another goddess just relaxing in his mind. He had a terrible headache. With the news that the goddess would have to be relocated for a while, the Avengers decided to convene and figure out just what to do.
"So she can't stay here?" Tony complained.
"Not unless you want an insane goddess ravaging your tower and the world around it." Loki said.
"Great. So somewhere else. I have a couple places-" Tony offered, but was interrupted.
"We have a safehouse." Natasha stated.
Tony froze for a moment, insulted that she would suggest somewhere other than one of his properties for housing his niece. "But that's SHIELD, and I don't want her getting roped into that."
"It's not SHIELD. It's off the books. Fury, Nat, and I are the only ones who know about it." Clint corrected him.
"Well, now we know about it." Tony said.
"You know it exists. Not where it is, what it looks like, anything. In contrast, you own your properties. Anyone who looks hard enough can find them. Especially SHIELD." Clint replied.
Tony didn't have a good argument for that, and he didn't particularly want to after seeing Natasha's determined glare. "Fine. Okay. When are you taking... What's her name?"
Loki seemed to have overlooked the fact that they didn't know. He enlightened them when silence filled the room. "Katha."
All eyes snapped to him. "What was that?" Tony asked.
"Katha, her name is Katha." Loki said clearly.
"Since when?" Tony blurted.
"Since she chose it." Loki replied.
"So she picked her own name?" Steve asked.
Loki nodded once.
"You've talked to her." They all seemed to realize, but Steve voiced it. "How? She hasn't woken up yet."
"I spoke to her consciousness within her mind." Loki said.
"Can we talk to her?" Tony asked.
"Did you miss the entire point of this conversation?" Loki asked.
Bruce subtly planted his face in his palm.
"Sure, sure, whatever. When does she have to leave?" Tony grumped.
"As soon as possible." Loki advised.
"We can leave tonight." Clint proposed. Loki nodded his approval.
Natasha stood up. Business had concluded, and now she was going to get ready to go. It wouldn't take long.
Once she was out of the room, Tony gave a funny look at the door. "What is up with her?"
"Percy told her about a vision he had, and anyway, she just feels responsible for Katha. Man, that is hard to say." Clint said, and rolled his tongue around in his mouth as if to make it easier. "No, seriously, you try!"
They took a moment and made fools of themselves, Loki thought, save Thor, who actually knew how to say it, and then agreed not to speak of it. "Kat." Tony suggested.
It was unanimous that 'Kat' was much easier to say while they got better at managing 'Katha'.
According to the rules, Loki couldn't go anywhere alone until certain conditions were met. With both Clint and Natasha at the safehouse, it would be within the rules for Loki to leave the tower. Besides, a little talk with Fury about Katha's origins would have him clearing it.
Within the hour, the jet was in the air.
A/N
So Sally knows now! Took long enough, huh? Anyway, I think it's time Percy gets a break and spends some time just to be as human/demigod as possible.
So, I was thinking for you loyal readers, maybe a Q&A? Leave your questions here and I'll answer some of them in the next chapter!(In an A/N) (If they would spoil too much I might not answer)
